Nexus mods sorting kills new cool mods.

My only real issue with the whole Riverwood/Whiterun area is it's a funnel that the original game sends you through. With an alternate start mod (even without), I choose to avoid that funnel.

Without I usually moved eastward, through the pass and into The Rift. Then again I tend to lean Stormcloak in terms of the Civil War.

With, well it's wherever it puts me - but I don't have to deal with the whole dragon issue either.

Problem is, after getting forced through that funnel so many times I just avoid that place (Riverwood/Whiterun) like the plague. Consider it a reflex response, every time I see that area I think "that's where I set the dragons loose - whether I wanted to or not".

The one feature that really needs improving is recent mod updates. I go to category new recently and I see a mod has been updated. Majority of time there is no actual

Update to the file just a comment by author

Back to topic on hand there are very few mods overlooked (hidden gems). If a mod is good such as bruma or majestic mountains they soar to top of charts.

There are 2-3 people on YouTube that cover 99% of new mods released daily and weekly. Its mostly pretty swords and girls with skimpy outfits.

It feels like bruma and these upcoming new area mods are giving nexus and supporting mods a boost

Interesting you see it that way. I never saw it as a funnel per se. My first instinct was to wander. It always has been in TES. My first foray into Elder Scrolls, I made some psychotic argonian in Morrowind and just became fascinated with stealing every object in the starter area... and then attacking people. The freedom of doing the little things had me hooked.

That said, I did appreciate the main quest in Skyrim once I commited to it.

Anyways.. Nexus sorting. I agree with the earlier poster who said the "Updated" part could be fixed. It shouldn't pop up mod entries if the author has merely commented on something.

I like Riverwood, and while I always go there even with alternate start, I don't go off to Whiterun after. I figure since Riverwood is the archetype that all cities and towns are based upon, Beth would naturally want people to go there first. It doesn't mean you need to go straight to Whiterun though.

I like it too.. And I still do tend to go to Riverwood first. I just wandered/wander around a bit after Helgen. It's sort of become a ritual for me at this point to do this too. Like I enjoy wandering the Falkreath/Helgen area, like I did in my first playthrough. Angi's Camp might've been one of the first highlights I ran into and I've loved doing that since. But then, my characters find a reason to take Ralof and Hadvar up on their offer and go to Riverwood. For one reason or another. Each character has a different reason. Some want to join the War, some get hungry (lol). My main character was attacked crossing Cyrodil so that was why he was in rags.. he was looking for the thieves who got his armor. Once that's settled, I go to Riverwood.

Besides, in retrospect, I think it's appropriate to wait a little anyways. It never made any sense to me how events unravel so quickly if you go to Riverwood. Like Delphine has already hired Farangar to get the Dragonstone and things like that. If I just wait a day or two, it makes a little more sense.

..... I've clearly thought about this too much :P

Playing vanilla, I always felt compelled to do three things (I simply can't side with people trying to take my head off - not in the opening minutes):

1) Help the guy (Stormcloak) who is helping me stay alive trying to escape Helgen. Strength in numbers.

2) Help the guy who helped me escape navigate dangerous territory since we are now literally fugitives in Imperial eyes. Again, strength in numbers.

3) Help the people (Gerdur and Hod) who have stuck their neck out harboring me - by doing something as simple as running an errand to Whiterun. I at least owe them that much.

There are two things that present themselves once I get to Riverwood.

1) Join the Stormcloaks. I don't feel obligated to join either faction at Riverwood at that moment.

2) Help my hosts and help protect all the inhabitants of Riverwood. To me, thats not an option - it's what you do.

You'd have to be role playing a pretty callus character to just tell them go pound sand in light of current events. Let the dragons run riot over Riverwood, I'm not no errand boy and I'm not going to get help from the Jarl just to help you save your (which I apparently want to make my) town?

I agree with that. I just don't feel compelled to go to Riverwood right away.. But once I'm there, I think it's a good idea to kick off the main quests.

There's just the big unanswered question of why I'm running around in my smallclothes crossing the border into Cyrodil. :P So I wander a bit to answer that question. Sometimes the best part of TES storytelling is implicit and in the presentation of things, and not always the dialogue.

William Sea was rather ingenious by placing Levelers Tower as the first structure you see when exiting the Helgen dungeon. To this day it remains my favorite residence. Of course, he had a head start in his thinking since he started modding back in Morrowind.

I gotta agree with that. Glad he ported that to SE. I don't use the Leveler's Tower as a home, but as a one-time-only stop to "create" the character I want for a new playthrough. But to each their own.

What was this thread originally about? Something concerning the Nexus' ability (or lack thereof) to sort / promote new mods over... - I dunno, "chaff" maybe? Is that the right word to use?

'Course, one man's chaff is another man's gold I guess...

The Nexus sorting is killing new cool mods? Who cares?! Let's better speak about the "lamb houses and where is a better place to place them"!

Hm... Can I change the topic title?
