New Nexus Mods design launched

I like the new layout... is there an option on preference to switch permanently...

is there a way to use the old layout?

I hope it's not a glitch, but I have the option to use both. After a couple of days the option to use the beloved old layout returned. I sure as hell hope it's not a temporary glitch.

First I want to say thank you nexus for many many hours of fun!

I did try, but I wasn't been able to read all 103 pages here.

Personally, I don't care so much about colors or look-and-feel. My main interest here at the generally great nexusmods site is usability and there are some problems there with the redesign.

In particular:

Search

1) Where is Advanced Search? It used to be (fairly) easy to go to the drop down for Advanced search and use the Description Contains option to find a mod whose title you couldn't quite remember or a mod that affected a particular aspect of the game. Now the only search field available seems to require you to know the exact name of the specific mod you are looking for.

2) One option that was very much needed then and is still not available is the ability to look up a mod by its Nexus ID number. Why shouldn't such a basic reference be available to search? If I put 39358 (Improved Casinos) into the new search field, I still get no results. WUWT?

A few smaller things:

1) I may be wrong on this, but after modding for a while things like unique downloads and total views are a lot less important than Last Updated and Changelogs. Some things given prominence in the new design matter a lot more to site admins than users and that may be having a bit of influence on the reactions seen here.

2) It would be very nice if there was a way to drill down into Categories more easily. Many mods overlap the unavoidable broadness of categories. Surely there's some way to build a cross ref database that allows for subsets? just asking...

All in all , I would just ask that function be given a leg up on form here, no offense.

Thanks, and keep up the by-and-large great work!

The new version is awful for reasons that others stated better, ranging from "look and feel" to functionality. Personally, I prefer the much darker interface. In any case, I hope NexusMods is not following the familiar pattern we have all seen before:

( -> = "changes into" )

It's free! ->
New design! It's free but ad supported! ->
It's free but ad supported and even more free to premium members! ->
New design! Some 'design' changes make it even less free ->

We have many paid members now, So who cares about non-premium opinion? -> **
Announcement: We will soon be going 100% commercial - Premium only

** possibly the current stage

Eventually, they start with the premium level "packages", which make even subscribers into peons in one overnight redesign. lol Saw all this on music sites, NZB sites, etc. over the years. The Internet Chess Club comes to mind. Its creator wanted it to be forever free. Once a certain guy got his mitts on the code, the above progression was followed. And with each evolution, those who paid less were ignored more,

Fortunately, there is one final evolution. Somebody with tons of "content" (mods/utils) simply opens a FREE site. He adds a forum to it, and the cycle can begin once more.

They would get a massive backlash and user loss.

I'm going to have to ask, is there a way to still use the old site layout, or at least customise what images/features are immediately visible on a page?

I'm finding the new one to be very un-intuative; there is too much information displayed on one page which combined with the flat layout gives very little visual hierarchy to my eyes compared to the old site. I'm really struggling to navigate. I can see from reading other posts that I am not the only person with a disability strugging with it.

Should be permanent: https://old.nexusmods.com/?
