New design constructive feedback

I'd like to see some sort of image compare for when the author didn't/couldn't add compound images themselves. On the old layout this can be achieved by opening 2 or more images and then moving them around, but it was a rather lucklaster feature.

Feels like it would be easier to have the emoticons pre-ticked as it was on the old version. I keep forgetting to check the box now. Or is it so that emoticons won't show up when you don't want to?

One thing I want to see is a flag icon for when you have comments on your images--I never get notifications for comments on images, and I don't like missing them, but I don't want to have to sift through 100+ images, clicking on each one separately to see if someone commented on it. A little comment box icon could appear right on the image tile to alert us.

Am i blind, or is the advanced search option gone since the update?

Can't seem to find a new "advanced search" anywhere for any game...which was a VERY useful feature for looking through everything.

It comes after you hit Search. The search results have the Advanced filter stuff below the results.

Came here to complain abbout the resetting of the All games window, why bother asking me wjhat settings I want, if you reset them on reload, let me save my preferences, including showing me all games from the start.

All the extra clicking that's now required, to see what I want, is extremely annoying. You limit the favourites to 8 games, but that's where I can put those I use all the time.

The All games page, should show all games alphabetically by default, and if loading those useless pics for each one, is why only first 50 get shown, just provide the functional list of names, the old site does.

Yet I hate having to always untick the damn things, and like it, or not it's been causing a long standing issue that this change may eliminate.

The fact is this is just a small part of the issues caused by linking of Forum pages to Nexus Mods Posts.

Despite appearing on both sites for many years, certainly while using the name NexusMods, if not also during the TES Nexus period.

The formatting system the Forum uses very well, has been utterly broken on Nexus Mods posts.

Emoticons are just a small example of the issues caused by the many incompatibilities, with the Forums BBCodes not working at all, or very badly on NexusMods

On the Forum I can enter a file path like so

D:/Folder/File.extension

On the Posts Tab D:/ becomes an emoticon

Even using a code box that's supposed to preserve the contents exactly as written, exhibits this behavior, and I hope this changing emoticons to default off will eliminate it, once and for all.

I'm extremely disappointed that the WYSIWYG editor used on the forums for many years, has not been added to the sites new design, and honestly I'm surprised the opportunity hasn't been taken to fully integrate the two sites.#

At the very least I expected the Nexus to make the one post/two locations system actually work correctly, but without at least the ability to show accurate forum formatting on the on NexusMods posts, it's impossible.

My main gripe has always been NexusMods wastes the majority of the Monitor width, unlike the forum, and have never understood why it's restrict5ed to that central slice. It should adjust to fill the available area, not just the cente 1/3, or new style 1/2.

And another thing, Allow me to turn the Media, and News sections off completely for every game, in the settings, if all I want to see is mods, I want to see more mods on each page.

I can see why that would pose a problem  Easier to check the box for smileys in that case

See, all this detail is good stuff. That's what we need more of. More details and suggestions. All points that were presented reasonably, and I actually find I agree with some of it, and the stuff I don't agree with is only because for me, it's not used enough for me to have an opinion one way or the other.

This new website is really, really bad. It is very hard to navigate, the hotfiles are pretty much rendered useless now with the new layout and when downloading files everything looks too big and spaced out. Is there an option to go back to the old one? I will NEVER understand why people always insist on changing things that doesn't need to be changed. If it aint broke, don't fix it.

So, opening with the fact that i really, really do not like the new design. I probably never will, for me its change for the sake of change and i do not care for that.

...But since im going to be stuck with it eventually...

First up, everything seems to be absolutely flat and square, making things blend together. Its hard on the eyes. This seems to be a common complaint so i dont wish to rehash the whole thing.

The ad space at the top is huge. Its usually not a good sign if upon checking any page, a quarter of my screen before scrolling down is occupied by banner ads.

It may very well be simple force of habit, but the updates button doesnt seem to stick out as much now, i feel you could have the entire button change color and it would jump out a bit more that a tiny number box next to it. In addition the mail button is farther away so that requires more eye movement when getting initial information...And is another button that doesnt stand out when you see it in the corner of your eye.

In general, the mail and the updates to tracked files should be next to each other for the sole reason that they are both things you are likely to check at the same time.

For the "hot mods" section, the information available at a brief glance has seen a sharp drop. The name length cuts off earlier, and while you now see 7 mods instead of 6, you only can read the short description of 2 of them, the other 5 you get no information on aside from a small screenshot you cant make bigger and the name. In this regard the old design wins out...So i would say going for a design where you can mouse over it to get

In addition the readability of the short description is far worse because instead of a shaded box with plain white text, you now have a mild gradient and gray text. Toss the gradient and go back to a plain shaded box with white text and it becomes better on the eyes.

As a small note, i also feel the large thin font used for things like the "NEXUS" portion of "NEXUSMODS" is just annoying to look at. A small increase in line thickness would make it easier to read.

Now, as far as the "More mods" section...The tabs along the top are a pretty solid improvement, as previously those options would be buried in the files tab at the top...However defaulting to the new today tab has a downside of making the section potentially look empty and lopsided if there was less than 10 mods added in a day, and i miss being able to go to other pages on it to see further back.

Easiest solution there is to add a tab that specifically just grabs the newest mods like the old layout and maybe toss in a button that pages it instead of going to a search page.

In addition, i would note that i would personally like an option to either swap the placement of the media and news sections or disable the media section altogether. Perhaps the ability to just disable sections on the frontpage in general. I dont usually care about what screenshots other people take, and with the media section now being a very large segment of the front page its just bloat between mods and the news section for me.

Now, this ones a bit of a common issue among all the pages, the contrast is often pretty low. The mod lists in particular have their short descriptions contrast ratio at best 3.36:1. And due to to the fade out as the short description goes along (Which i fully recommend removing and replacing with the previous method of an ellipses at the end instead.) it can end up having the last (Full. It also tends to cut off half the last row of text at times.) bit of text at a contrast ratio of 1.65:1.

Changing the color of the short description text to meet the W3C accessibility guideline of a contrast ratio of atleast 4.5:1 and removing the gradual fadeaway would render the short descriptions of mods far more readable and easier on the eyes.

Moving back around to the layout...Its bulkier, often taking up to twice the area of the screen to provide only slightly more information. For example, the todays files provides 10 mods instead of 9 now, but is much bigger.

Which is a bit of a trade off...On one hand, you now have bigger screenshots for the front page mods, On the other, due to the text being spread out more it will take more eye movement to read the same amount of mod descriptions as before. This one is primarily up to preference. I prefer the thinner width myself.

As far as the search goes, the bloat is massive here. Previously you would receive 30 results per page regardless of if you used block or flat mode, resulting in either small screenshot tiles for flat mode that can be hovered over to get the full short description, or having a bigger tile that fits both the screenshot and small description in full text to it in a column that requires little eye movement to read.

Now you have a search that defaults to 20 mods (Unless you buy premium...Bit of a flat up downgrade there.) with a slightly wider screenshot (238 vs 185/180 pixels.), but cuts off most of the short descriptions with no option ive found to stop that from happening. List is equivalent to the block layout of the old search but has the same aforementioned issues with contrast and cutting off the short descriptions through a gradient.

The result for the search due to this is getting less information and fewer results in exchange for a slightly large screenshot, or in the case of big tiles, a much larger one. Letting you just mouse over to get all the short description again would be an improvement. In addition to bumping up the default search size to what it was before.

Now, as far as the pages for each mod...So much dead space. The screenshots are bigger, but being given a whole bar on the page means that for mods that dont have atleast 5 screenshots or so, there is a giant empty space on the screen. The priority of information is very odd as well...It goes giant version of screenshot, assorted information about it, screenshots, information again, tags, tabs, If ive ever used the mod before, permissions and credits for the mod...THEN the description of the mod. Its like all the neat and tidy information the old layout has was dumped at the top randomly. Some kind of compartmentalization of the information would help greatly here. Its gone from a single screen of ads, screenshots and information before i get to the description to about 1.7 screens.

Combine the fact that most of the icons for the tabs are gone, the design is very flat, and this increase in bulk and strange placement of information, and the entire top of the mod page feels very cluttered and lifeless.

Anyhow, thats my feedback.

The "Report" and "Share" buttons should be placed next to the "Track" and "Vote" buttons.

The font for the short description of the mods being displayed on the main page should not be so transparent. A more solid colour helps, to better contrast with the background image of the mod being displayed.

Given that multiple file sizes are available for some of the mods, it's best not to display them on the main page. It should be restricted to the download sections only.
