NMM vs Vortex

Do I have to set up all my mods from scratch? I have 200 mods and it is not something I like to go through, something sure will be wrong or changed. It takes like forever just to choose and arrange these 200 mods working together.

The best thing to do is start using Vortex on a game you just installed and haven't modded yet

Vortex is garbage. I downloaded it and instead of duplicating my NMM and load order settings it completely rewrote everything and rejected a bunch of mods outright. because it decided my set up was incorrect. Completely destroyed my set up for fallout 4, Skyrim , and Skyrim SE . Bad experience I wont use it again, Ill go back to loading manually first.

I do also have such bad experience with it. Even if i followed all of the instructions, my game won't work properly anymore.

I then tried to re-install 143 mods one by one in vortex and still no avail.

Vortex is more hassle than it's worth. Once I get my game running again via NMM, I'll be sticking with it.

Hi, I'm not spamming rant I'm just disappointed with my experience with the software, and it seems that the community is unable to accept criticism.

I'm glad this isn't a paid software, otherwise we could have some legal issues as that's not a proper way to treat potential customers. That's all, thanks and have a good day.

We have discussed in this forum too many times what to do and not to do with Vortex but some people continue doing what they are not supposed to do and they are blaming Vortex.

This guy Mach10frog decided to just do the "spray and pray" action by installing Fallout4, Skyrim and SkyrimSE in Vortex without knowing what to do ( I am pretty sure about it ) and now he is blaming Vortex.

Then you are backing him up stating that you have had the same bad experience with your game. Got a question for both of you : do you really know how Vortex works and do you really know how to use it ?

I am pretty sure that you both do not. Period. Otherwise, you would not be complaining. Period.

Did you use Vortex as a lab and did you use a game that you did not care too much about as your "rat" so you could have test Vortex in full ( as Scientist do in real life, they use rats to test medications before giving them to us … ) before installing 147 mods and the other user, 3 games in full ? No you did not !

Because simple like this, if you would have done your homework as it has been advised too many times, you would have been successful. Period.

HadToRegister has been saying too many times not to try to apply what you did back in NMM while you are using Vortex because you will fail but a lot of people continue doing the same thing. It has been advised not to import your game in full but they continue doing that. It has been advised to use Vortex as a lab with your own "rat" but you don't do that. You just started to use Vortex and installed 147 mods without testing it. Really ? Would not have been better to test it with 10-15 mods rather than 147 mods at a time or 3 full games ? Really ?

Why me and hundred others have been successful ? Answer me please because as far as I know I am not Albert Einstein and my intelligence level is the same level that you have, so why I could and you could not ? Period. Out.

The community is able to accept criticism, VALID Criticism, but so far it's been the same thing over and over again which boils down to...

People importing their working 250 mod installs from NMM to Vortex, which there are ample warning NOT TO DO, as NMM corrupts the file(s) needed by Vortex to import, (and vortex gets blamed for NMM corrupting those files)

People INSISTING on doing everything the "NMM way" in Vortex, so they follow ESP sorting Guides on Reddit or Mod pages, and end up with a bird's nest of Cyclic rules that they blame Vortex for

People Micromanaging their PLUGIN load order because of learned behavior from NMM, so they end up fighting Vortex because they insist they are right and Vortex is wrong, so they end up with never-ending conflicts and cyclic rules.

People putting their Mod Download folder INSIDE the Vortex Install folder, despite the stick at the top of the forum saying not to, because Vortex completely wipes it's own install folder with every upgrade

People putting their Mod Staging folder INSIDE their game folder because of a YouTube video that says to do this, that really needs to be either updated, or removed from youtube.

People moving or renaming their Mod Staging Folder and/or Download folder, OUTSIDE of Vortex, so when Vortex is started it give a long list of FILE NOT FOUND errors because the paths have been changed without Vortex knowing, and the user blames Vortex for that

People expecting Vortex to "read minds" and remove/uninstall mods that Vortex didn't install

I'd say a good 95% of the problems in here are user error, as it seems the people in here who try to provide support, are answering the same 5 - 10 questions over and over and over again. The other 5% are actual bugs.

It especially shows when the people who rage-quit Vortex don't even know that they can download an updated NMM, and they don't even know how or where to download it.

And those same people also inevitably will come back here after switching back to NMM because of "how much easier NMM is than Vortex", but can't figure out how to go into SETTINGS and turn the "HANDLE NXM URLS" ON.

It's also very telling when someone posts a rant complaining about Vortex that Vortex doesn't have the abilities and features Vortex already HAS.

I've seen people complain that "if Vortex had a manual they would've been able to use Vortex", and when pointed out that not only does Vortex have a built in manual/guide, it also has built-in tutorial videos as well.

Then they complained that it was called "Knowledge base" instead of "Manual"

@HadToRegister. An absolutely superb post! You're spot on with your list of user errors.

Unfortunately, you're preaching to the choir. Furthermore, very few of the folk who really need this will ever see it. As for the ranters, those who do read it will characterize your remarks as insulting, demeaning, condescending and/or (worst of all) toxic.

Nonetheless, I'm very glad you've written this. Thank you.

Well done HadToRegister, excellent ! You have made it easier to new users to deal with Vortex, assuming of course, that they read your post.

I hope they do because so far, we have more than 5k reading this thread.

And if some of them get offended, so be it. Conceited people will always play victim, get offended and blame others for their own missteps.
