What counts as "indoors" for beds? And for no rain?

A greenhouse? The corner roof pieces will have missing plates of glass, but rain can everywhere throughout the entire structure—indoors is as wet as outside. But I don't think this is always the case, that every greenhouse gets rain inside.

There are always other structures in which I get rain I'd not expect, as if there were no roof, or as if an opening in one spot equals having no roof at all, anywhere.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this how the game works?

I can't recall if this is always the case , but I think it is

if memory serves , in Skyrim rain went through roofs like they didn't exist

and I'm pretty sure it's the same with Fallout 4

so if that is correct , the only places that don't have rain falling through them are interior cells (like buildings that have a loading screen when entering)

maybe there is a mod that can change it , but such mods aren't easy , especially in a game like FO4 where you can build settlements

No, some buildings get no rain inside, such as the dilapidated Santuary Hills homes. If anything should leak, those should!

I'd even go so far as to say that the same building allows rain at times, but keeps it out at other times. That seems to be the case, in any regard.

Wetness shows no matter what when it's raining even inside of buildings but, there is a type of Audio marker that will keep the ran from falling inside a building but, it has to be placed in the Ckit. they can't be set up to be built in workshop mode. these audio markers are primitives like collision boxes (the invisible walls)

For example stand inside of the garage in red rocket when it's raining. you'll notice that the rain stays outside. this is because there is the audio marker stopping it.

Edit you also may want to try Wetness Shader Fix it really helps to take away some of the annoying glossy wet textures.

I find that the Far Harbor DLC workshop addons are the best for keeping out the riain.

I use the barn floor & roof pieces even with the Contraptions Workshop DLCs warehouse items, like the greenhouse wall panels.

I also use them when I am revisiting old character save that have preDLC structures to fix the leaks so to speak.

I thought it was about what is seen by the game as "sheltered". Add beds in the open and happiness goes down. Add a tarp over a bed makes no difference. Add anything that can pass for a floor or roof and the bed is seen as sheltered, even when rain passes right through it.

To me it is an immersion thing.
