Vortex download folder empty after downloading from Nexus Mods site?

I have got a strange problem that I can't seem to work out. When I download a Mod from the Nexus Mod website for some reason it doesn't show in the Vortex download folder. I am still able to install it though with Vortex once it's finished downloading. If I delete the Mod which I've installed and leave a tick out of archive, the mod still doesn't show in the downloads folder that it's been archived? However, if I click on downloads in the Vortex program I see there is a list of downloads and I can re-install them from there? Why are the mods which I've downloaded not showing up in my Vortex download folder though? My download path was setup like this "G:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\SkyrimVR\Vortex\downloads." The other paths look like this "G:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\SkyrimVR\Vortex." and "G:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\SkyrimVR\Vortex\mods."

When I look in the Vortex Mod folder I see them all in there, it's just the Vortex download folder that's empty all the time? Any help with this would be appreciated.

I will mention that I did have these Skyrim Vortex folder setup somewhere else before. I thought it would be easier to manage if I put the Vortex folder in the game folder though, so I moved the folders with the Vortex program and deleted the old Vortex mod and download folders. I then setup these new folders as I've mentioned already in my Skyrims game folder and downloaded all my mods again.

Did you see that there is an 'show all downloads' button at the bottom of the window id you open the 'Downloads' tab?

Did you click it?

By default, Vortex only shows the downloads you haven't installed yet. To see all your downloads, you have to click that button.

It's working correctly. On my installation for Fallout 4 on the same drive as I have the Game installed, I have Voxtex Fallout 4\downloads, Vortex Fallout 4\Mod Downloads and Vortex Fallout 4\active mods

What happens when you download a mod it starts in the downloads folder, once it has been completely downloaded it is moved to the Mods folder in your case, for me its the Mod Downloads folder, and then when you install a mod it is copied to the active mods folder with the settings/files you choose during the installation ready to then be enabled on the profile or profiles you have setup.

Hi

Thanks for the replies but I don't think you understand what I mean. If I download a mod from the Nexus mod site it is supposed to download into the download folder when I don't install it. This is the path to the download folder which I've already mentioned above "G:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\SkyrimVR\Vortex\downloads."

When I look inside this download folder nothing is in there. The mods I've downloaded without without installing are not in there. They do however show in the Vortex program under downloads.

I'm not sure what you mean? Why does it work different for you? When I download a file it is supposed to stay in this folder "G:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\SkyrimVR\Vortex\downloads." until I choose to install it is this correct? Once I install it, it then moves to the Mod folder here. "G:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\SkyrimVR\Vortex\mods."

Then if I archive the mod it's then supposed to move back to the downloads folder "G:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\SkyrimVR\Vortex\downloads." The point I'm trying to make is that the mods never show in this downloads folder "G:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\SkyrimVR\Vortex\downloads."

I'm just not sure why not? Cheers!

That sounds so weird, that I'd like to see a screenshot of both your Settings->Mods dialog, your "Downloads" tab and of the explorer showing the contents of your download directory.

There must be some error, we just have to figure out, where.

IF that Vortex folder that you have the downloads folder inside of, is the Vortex INSTALL folder, you'd better move your download folder somewhere else, otherwise, when you update Vortex, it's going to completely wipe all your downloaded mods.

There's a sticky post about not downloading mods into your vortex folder

Vortex downloads files to a directory based on the game the download is associated with, not based on the game you're currently managing.

So when you're managing SkyrimVR and you download a mod from the Skyrim Special Edition Section on nexus, the files are downloaded to the download directory for SSE, not SkyrimVR.

If you haven't configured that directory, it uses the default location at c:\users\...\appdata\roaming\vortex\skyrimse\downloads

This will change in the next larger release (0.16.0) but for now, this is how it works.

In my opinion, downloading to the game directory implicit in the Nexus game section from which one is downloading is the correct behavior. If I'm on the Nexus and downloading a Skyrim SE mod, I don't want it going to some other directory. At least not without a warning, or a game specific setting. Just because I'm currently managing Skyrim doesn't mean I might not want to download an XCOM2 mod, and I sure as heck wouldn't want to mistakenly download such to my Skyrim directory.

I wouldn't even want a global setting. If you can do it, I'd actually like to see a game specific setting. So on the Skyrim VR game management, there'd be an option for "If I'm managing this game (Skyrim VR) and I download from this section of the Nexus (Skyrim SE), it's OK." If I'm managing some other game, or I'm not downloading from the selected Nexus section, then whatever I download should go to the appropriate game directory.

That's exactly what Tannin just said.
