Jeux
I'll keep this brief to kick off the question: Why don't people invest enough time towards producing quality quest mods? I barely even see enough crappy ones nowadays. Since New Vegas was released, there was always a slim amount of notable quest mods. That is why the few "good" quest mods here are praised. It just doesn't make sense. Don't players want new environments and/or adventures to use all of the countless armor, weapon, utility, and whatever else mods they download daily? Don't people run out of things to do in the Mojave eventually? Don't you long for more? Yes, that's what the DLCs are for, but even then. They are pretty streamlined in that regard. This is just something I want to know. Do people really even care about quest/new land mods? It takes a good bit of effort to make them, I understand...I just want to know. Thanks. SpizificatioN
My guess its that there aren't many people with the knowledge. Scripting isn't something that everyone understands perfectly. Another thing is that there aren't many voice actors and what is a quest mod whitout lip sync and voice acting.
ionis
It takes a lot of time, skill, experience and commitment to complete them, which narrows down the amount of modders that can make them. There are a number of decent quest mods all ready released and there is still this one to come: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/428728-wip-beyond-boulder-dome/
TrickyVein
I've meant to be working on (at least) one for over a year now. There's a reason people get paid to do these things...
JimboUK
I think the voice acting puts some off too, I remember there being a lot more quest mods for Morrowind than there was for Oblivion, FO3 and NV.
Quetzlsacatanango
I think people like them but there is a problem.People with "ideas" have a lot of crazy ones that are overly complex, not realistic for this game, etc.Not a lot of people have both the ideas and the ability to implement them. So that's why you see a lot of guns and armor and not a ton of quests.
bben46
Quest mods take a LOT of time. Good quest mods take a LOT MORE time. They will be along. I 'm sure there are a few that are already well along the way to being released. But those good modders like to thoroughly test quest mods before releasing them because of the potential for problems that a quest can do the game. The mod community is not in a big rush. We don't just rush to play the game through then rush to make a mod. We tend to play a bit slower and savor the game - this allows us to see possibilities for mods that actually fit the Skyrim game and world. While the casual gamer will play through once and maybe twice - I have yet to complete the game the first time as I tend to try to find every interesting location and byway that I can. Then I will start on quest mods that extend the game. I will likely be playing 2 or even 3 years from now and still finding new mods to make it enjoyable.
llamaRCA
What players want is never the issue (it's easy to want something; I want good textures so my characters look good and I want excellent armor mods, etc). The key question is whether or not there are modders in the community who have the time to devote to development and the interest to create such a mod. If there isn't a modder around who is interested in making a particular type of mod you aren't going to see that kind of mod being made. And, btw, Quetzl has recently released a very entertaining mod filled with quests and a new location that he worked on for a very long time. b3w4r3
Quest mods are just a lot of work. I spent over nine months making one for Oblivion, and it was at least a year later before I got the whole thing voiced (which created a ton more work as the cs was patched and required me to create the lip files using an old version). Taking on such a large task like that requires that you really devote yourself, and it's easy to get burned out, or run into problems that seem to just stack up into a huge pile. It is satisfying to complete one and have people enjoy and comment on your work, but in the end I prefer to stick to more script related mods, as I find them more challenging and less tedious. I just don't think there are a lot of people that enjoy all aspects relating to creating a large quest. It was a great experience for me, and I learned a lot, but at this point devoting that much time to a single mod just doesn't inspire me.
