AshDilan
On all of the other games that I use Vortex for (Skyrim, Fallout 4, Fallout NV), it's worked fine. However, Fallout 3 doesn't seem to want to work with Vortex. The few mods I downloaded while I still used Nexus Mod Manager have been sent to the plugins list and I can manage the mods in that list. The problem is with downloading new mods. I'll download and install a mod and it'll deploy and everything as it should. However, it won't appear in the plugins list. Also most of the new mods I downloaded don't work in game either as if I never installed them. However, 1 mod, Type 6 Modification Body, does work as if I installed it. Thing is, the texture is messed up and I never got an options menu when I installed it.
HadToRegister
First off, you have to remember that mods, (before mod managers were a "thing") for games like Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, were just randomly zipped up and were expected to be installed manually, and it wasn't until a few years later that mod managers came about and some attempt at "Standardization" for packaging mods was born. I learned this as well, when I downloaded several mods for Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas and completely forgot to realize (until a read the comment section) that these mods were just zipped up with the expectation of a manual install, or they were zipped up far before "Install Menus" for mods existed. I currently have 95 (and growing) mods installed for Fallout 3, with no problems, because I make sure to use the "Preview File Contents" (ON THE DOWNLOAD TAB ON THE NEXUS) before downloading a mod, and seeing what the folder/directory structure is within the archive. This lets me know whether 'm going to have to unzip the mod and reorganize it, and re-zip it properly, or if I can just just install it because it was zipped properly from the get-go
AugustaCalidia
Here's a second to HadToRegister's remarks. I use Vortex to manage a stable Fallout 3 setup of 66 mods. Most of the mods installed without a problem. However, there were some mods that I had to rebuild to make them mod manager friendly.
OnionMan42
Sorry to post on an old thread, but I'm digging Fallout 3 and New Vegas back out and google brought me to this thread. Is there a how-to guide out there for what to look for to know what mods need to be mod manager-friendly?
rmm200
Man - you did dig up an old post...Do keep in mind that mod managers like NMM and now Vortex are a convenience - not a necessity. If they are not making your life simpler, you can always go back to a manual install. Just follow the instructions for that mod.If you only have a couple of mods, that may be the way to go.When you become a mod addict, like most of us around here, is when a good mod manager starts to shine.I am running 67 mods on Fallout NV with Vortex - but then I am kind of a slacker. Some of us have many more.

ALIASECHO
Well, I thought this was about something else. Vortex simply doesn't even see my Fallout3.exe game file. It detects NV and Oblivion just fine, and it works with them just fine (with most mods) but Fallout 3 is not even locatable with Vortex. I can see the executable just fine, but Vortex can't. This was the first post when I searched on DuckDuckGo, so I thought it would help, but it didn't XD However, if any of y'all know how to fix MY problem, that would be greatly appreciated.
