Same for me. Migrating from NMM to vortex was the biggest mistake i ever did modding. Not only did it completely break everything it also did this. Every imported mod is in the list multiple times fragmented into the mod, archives and additional files. And since most of the mods have badly named archives its next to impossible to do anything manually.

The only reason i swapped was because NMM was starting to break everything as well. I mean why even have these managers when all they do is break s*** automatically.

And that addon did absolutely nothing for me. The list is still ultra f*#@ed.

Did you PURGE then RE-DEPLOY?

Also, the Staff has told people time and time again, if you have a working set up, it's best to start using Vortex FROM SCRATCH on a NEW INSTALL.

For God' sake people, think before you do something.

Use Vortex as a lab and choose a game that you do not care about that much, install it in Vortex and download only 10-15 mods and monkey around with them till you learn it. That is exactly what I did when I started using this program. I left my Fallout4 intact in NMM and I used SkyrimSE as my "rat" in Vortex "lab".

After a while, messing around with it, asking question, investigating and studying it, I started to learn it. I remember that I delete and reinstalled the game perhaps 3 times till I learned Vortex. After I felt READY for it, then I decided NOT TO IMPORT my Fallout4 ( I never trusted the import feature ) and deleted my game and NMM was completely wiped out from my PC. I installed Fallout4 from scratch, fresh, and here I am running both game without any problem. Please do the same and Vortex will work properly for you.

On the contrary, start doing what Vortex does not suggest and you will get in trouble. Example : when people install Vortex in a different directory suggested by it, things start to get complicated. Let Vortex install itself on its own default and you will not have any problem. This is the first thing you need to do.

Second, use it as a "lab" with your "rat" game as explained above. Read the knowledge, ask question, study it, observe the results, learn it by going into each feature of it and find out what they do, use the auto-sort function in the Plugin section ( DO NOT USE LOOT - DO NOT USE LOOT - FORGET LOOT ) and let Vortex to sort your plugins.

Deal with the mod conflicts which is what you need to concentrate on and now with this new update, it is easier than before because it is suggesting what to do when resolving conflicts between mods .... and then, when you feel that you know it, install your beloved game from scratch ( DO NOT IMPORT ). Piece of advise : FORGET NMM and what you did. Forget the dragging and drop. You MUST trust Vortex blindly if you want to succeed with it but if you go against it, problems will arise.

Don't do what I have suggested ? Good luck ! Do it and welcome to the party pal !!

When importing from NMM to Vortex, many people plunge in without heeding the warnings from the Nexus staff and without making adequate preparation. The results are some of the Vortex disasters being reported in this thread. These problems typically arise from a compromised game data folder and/or failure to deploy properly.

In the Vortex Knowledge Base, there is this warning to proceed with caution;

The warning makes it very clear that there are substantial risks involved in using the automated import function. Hence the recommendation that Vortex be used only with a brand new game. (Follow sopmac45's advice in the preceding post.)

If you still want to import in spite of the cautions issued, then there are several necessary preparatory steps.

  1. In NMM uninstall the mods for the game being imported so that you have a clean game data folder. (Uninstalling the mods will not delete the NMM archives folder, assuming that you have not already deleted it for some reason.)
  2. After uninstalling the mods, check the game data folder to make sure it's clean. Remove anything that is not part of the vanilla game installation. If the game is on Steam, you can always verify the integrity of the game files, if you're worried that you might have deleted any vanilla game assets.
  3. Delete any lingering and leftover NMM loadorder and plugins text files.
  4. Exit NMM so that it will not be running in the background.
  5. Import the NMM mod archives either by using the Vortex automated import button or by dragging and dropping the mod archives into the Drop File(s) boxes in Vortex. (The latter method is by far the safest way to import to Vortex.)
  6. Once you've completed the import, double-check the game data folder to make sure it's still clean.

When you import the NMM archives to Vortex, they are automatically placed into the appropriate game download folder (not to be confused with the mod staging folder). At this point you now have a download folder populated with imported NMM archives and an empty mod staging folder. These archives will show up on the Vortex mods page as "Never Installed" mods (blue tabs). If you have duplicates and/or installed mods, then you have left out one or more of the above steps.

Now it's time to activate the mods and thereby populate the mod staging folder. This is a four step process: install, enable, deploy, sort. NMM users will likely be familiar with three of those steps but will be puzzled by deploy. If you are puzzled by this step, then you are strongly advised to find out what deploy means and why it is an absolutely essential step in setting up a game with Vortex. Failure to deploy properly leads to disaster.

I cannot guarantee that the steps set out above will give you a problem free Vortex. However, I can say that I successfully followed these steps about a year ago. I first used Fallout 3 as my Vortex guinea pig. Once I was familiar with Vortex, I decided to import my NMM archives for old games of Fallout 4 and Skyrim SE. I had finished both games and had no further interest in them. Out of sheer curiosity (which sometimes kills the cat) I tried the automated import method in spite of the risks. Much to my surprise, the process of importing worked quickly and flawlessly. I then started two new games and was able to play without any serious, game-breaking complications.

I have this same issue. Skyrim SE, switched to another game, switched back, everything in Mods tab now duplicated and either Uninstalled or Disabled; everything in Plugins tab is fine. I never imported from NMM, and I used Vortex on a fresh, clean installation of Skyrim SE. Installed the archive binding fix extension and ran it, but it says "there were no mods with broken bindings that can be fixed."

For those smart peaople who advising to "Use Vortex as a lab" or telling "In the Vortex Knowledge Base, there is this warning to proceed with caution"

I INSTALLED CLEAN SKYRIM SE AND INSTALLED ALL MODS FROM SCRATCH, AFTER WATHING ALL TUTORIAL VIDEOS AVAILABLE ABOUT VORTEX AND DIDN'T IMPORT MODS FROM NMM.

Used Vortex four month, for Skyrim SE and Fallout 4, every thing was okay. But five days ago appeared this F//// issue.

If you don't know how to fix it, or what cause this glitch, don't give your useless advises.

I understand that you are frustrated, though what would really help us address the issue is if you could provide more details as to what exactly you were doing when the issue occurred. What were the circumstances? How many mods did you use? Did you deploy? Did you switch games? etc.

I am afraid we have been unable to reproduce the issue thus far, making it difficult for us to address and fix it.

Sorry for being rude, just all evning yesterday and today was searching for posibilities to fix this issue but didn't find any. And as always, there are people who reapiting the same: NMM imports or watch/read tutorial. I didn' t import mods from NMM. And I deploy mods.

Last what I did in Vortex was unninstaling the mod "Holds" and installing "The great cities - minor cities and towns", and after that I switch to Fallout 4 downloaded the mod "Ellen - the cartographer". Once I switched back that hapened.

Finished reinstalling all mods (by doing that duplication dissapeared), launched the game, every thing seemed fine.

But than I tried to switch between games, and strange thing happened.

When I switch from Skyrim SE to old Skyrim and back, everything is OK, but when I switch from Skyrim SE to Fallout 4 and back, once again all mods are disabled and duplicated. I dont have any other game in vortex, so can't say for sure, but maybe there is some spesific conflict when Skyrim SE are switched to Fallout 4.

Fallout mods are OK. Only SE is messed up.
