@BladerRavinger92....Maybe I have watched too many Arabian Movies, but I just really get the feel that the gun would make sense coming out of Hammersfell.....Also aren't they still at war with the Thalmor?....so they would have good reason to be trying to advance their weaponry....Maybe the gun could be a stolen prototype and it's been smuggled into Skyrim by a group of Redguard Bandit/Thieves (the ones who stole it)....Dragonborn hears rumors of some unique weapon somewhere in Falkreath being held by these Bandits and if he/she chooses to pursue the rumors, make it more to it than just finding them, killing them all and you have gun...but finds one betrayed who gives the history of the gun and becomes a temporary follower in helping the Dragonborn retrieve the weapon...turns out there's more to the betrayal....all has not been as it appeared...coming down to who is or are the real villains in all this, intrigue, lies, etc....The Dragonborn is dragged into the conspiracy by default of getting involved in the first place....maybe the theft of the weapon wasn't so much a straight up theft but more aimed at keeping it out of the hands of Thalmor agents and the "betrayed follower" is in fact a Thalmor mole...etc, etc...Just throwing ideas out there. I believe the redguards are currently in a cease-fire with the thalmor, after they left the empire they continued to fight the thalmor for 5 years before the thalmor pulled their forces out and signed The Second Treaty of Stros M'kai

And um >.>;; i was going to add my idea of a side quest with my last post a while back but got pulled out to work on a tractor wheel. Well the side quest in general is this:

The Empire is supplying the loyal skyrim holds with new guns in order to shore up the defenses for those places, now places that are siding with the stormcloaks are using older less efficient guns(muskets or whatever you decide to call it) and when they hear of this, they want to raid a shipment to steal the plans (and a few working models) so in order to make their own (however until the side quest is finished both sides are using the older modeled muskets).

So if your working with the stormcloaks a courier arrives with a message from Ulfric or one of his generals<insert name here> and wants you to lead a small party and raid a (caravan or imperial armory) and get the stuff. when you accomplish this your reward with a gun of the new models(which will have i guess better stats then the normal ones)

However, if your siding with the Imperials you receive a letter from a courier from an imperial general<insert name here> that his spies have learned of a possible stormcloak raid on one of the empires armory depots (or caravans) so your ordered to go around to the various depots (or caravans) to look for any suspicious activities and guard against the attacks. the reward at the end would be the same gun with the better stats.

Edited to fix some spelling errors i noticed

All those Hammerfell ideas are great StayFrosty05. And Alusinic, your quest idea sounds very fun to play, and very doable.

I think both of you could help the development of this project, if you have time to spare you should join us. While I make the model and BladerRavinger deals with the technical issues, you guys could make a good quest to give some meaning to it all.

I have absolutely no modding experience what-so-ever but would love to help if someone was able to walk me through what I would need to do, that's if making a good quest involves some kind of scripts or anything like that.....otherwise am very happy anyway to flesh out a story, dialogs, etc....Am a writer by trade (children's books) so have had plenty of practice in stringing dialogs, etc... together and developing story lines coherently.

As much as i am going to regret this... We do, as a matter of fact, know the Redguard have gunpoweder. They used in the aptly named Redguard, and that took place during the reign of Tiber Septim himself, so 700ish years BEFORE skyrim. I don't recall seening anything like muskets, but there were cannon.

We also know the Dwemer had blasting powder, you used some in Morrowind.

The reason no one else has caught on to firearms, however, is because like their real world counterparts, early guns are unreliable, prone to exploding, and terribly, TERRIBLY innacurate. I mean, seriously. I've shot a 16th century hand cannon (the precurser to the Musket) and damn... For someone with their marksman badge i couldn't even get close to the target. Why bother with something so unreliable, when you cna just throw fireballs?

On the topic of the Redguard, however, they also, technicly, have nuclear weapons. They have mythic individuals, know as Sword Saints, who combine magic and swordplay to do absolutely outrageous things, including spiltting atoms. Cyrius (the PC from Redguard) was the last one i know of, however... The point stands, of course. If you can use magic to cause a nuclear explosion, why bother cramming explosive powder in a tube that may or may not explode on you?

Wow. I've read a bit of lore on the Redguard and I've never heard of them being able to do stuff like that. It actually does make sense that the Redguards may have invented gunpowder before the other races did, after all they do have access to a working Dwemer city and a couple of half-intact workshops. Okay I am definitely on board with this then.

For inspiration, check out the Aethernautics mod, that has lots of guns in it.

Awesome!...Thank you Lachdonin....my sniffer was on the right track it seems.... ....Funnily enough, I have no interest in having any guns myself in my game, love my Bow and Crossbow, not enough Bow games as it is, so use them where I can find them.... .

As for using magic in place of cannon's, guns, explosives, etc....there are those of us to which magic holds no appeal, such as myself and the OP of this thread...I could just never find the joy in playing with magicka myself, I don't even use enchanted gear....just my man's Bows and Swords with Poisons liberally applied.

The "Why use a gun when you have Magic" thing is really more of an in-universe explination for why gunpowder hasn't caught on. Because of the economic state of Tamriel (everything is hand crafted, had mixed, hand job-ed etc. as opposed to mass produced and automated) one requires a rather substantial investment to produce even a single gun. It's not something you can do yourself, at home, with a few simple tools. Overall, from the point of leaders, it's easier and cheaper just to have Mages around, which means there is no drive to develop firearms, save for from the riff-raff, who lack the means to do it themselves anyway.
