NMM no longer supported?

NMM says it's out of date but it wont let me log in to update, which means I can't download any mods. Did you guys stop supporting NMM already? Do I HAVE TO switch to Vortex now? All the bug reports in this forum are making me very leery of switching to Vortex right now.

Edit: I did actually download vortex and try to load it, but the very first thing it did was hit me with an error message saying it can't be run in admin mode, even though I didn't open it as an admin. So that really didn't reassure me that it's working great right now.

That's because you have UAC turned off.

You should have it turned on if you don't want your system to full of malware and viruses

Vortex can be run as admin, you just shouldn't. You also shouldn't run NMM, MO, Wrye Bash, xedit, loot or really any application that wasn't designed for Windows 95 as admin unless the application has a really good reason to require it.

We're getting a sh*tload of bugreports of error reports caused by users running mod managers with unnecessary admin rights (usually they were running NMM as admin and then wonder why Vortex can't overwrite their admin-owned files), that's why we warn that it may cause you trouble but we don't say you can't.

The reason you're getting the message despite not explicitly "run as admin"ing it is because you have UAC disabled (like HadToRegister said) so you're effectively running everything as admin. Vortex can only determine the effective rights not what you clicked on startup.

I don't even know what UAC is. How do I turn it off?

Im not that computer literate, so when I started modding I just followed the nexus instructions to the letter. Everything has worked fine this whole time like that with NMM. I don't know how I could have turned on UAC without even knowing how, or what it is.

Im not criticizing the nexus folks for making a new mod manager, or accusing it of being "garbage." Ill happily download it and use it when all the kinks are worked out. I just don't wanna be a beta tester for it. I just want to play my games at the end of the day with as little hassle as possible.

I did discover the community run NMM that was recommended on the nexus site after making this post, and it was been working well. So I'll probably just use that for a little while until vortex is a little more fleshed out.

You DO NOT want to turn off UAC

You need to turn it on.

Control Panel----------------->Security and Maintenance-------------------->Change User Account Control Settings

Make sure the slider is set to something like "Notify me when apps try to make changes to my computer (default)"
