Xerrai
So I haven't installed vortex yet because I wanted to get some friendly advice about game compatibility. I have Skyrim (non S.E.) and I wanted to know if it is compatible for it? I also wanted to know what would be better starting mods anew or migrating? Absolutely do not try to migrate a current game to Vortex, especially if your present mod manager is NMM. Start a fresh game.
Guest deleted34304850
how many mods do you have in your current game? is it a significant number, say > 100?reason i'm asking is that is has been stated since day #1 by the vortex developers - don't transition to vortex if you're actively playing a game.the more mods you have, the more chance something can and will go wrong. if you want to start with vortex, take a game - any game you like - and mod that with the intent to learn how vortex works, and save your current game being broken. somerandomsheepthathops
I haven't played Oldrim since I played Enderal back in 2017, but it worked fine for Vegas and Fallout 4. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work with Oldrim (Non Skyrim S.E.) My advice? DO NOT IMPORT YOUR MODS FROM NMM I cannot speak from experience, but I believe this will be mirrored by many people who have dealt with this issue in the past. Plus, I've seen a lot of people raising Hell about importing causing problems. I'd also highly recommend spending some time on these forums and maybe starting with some of the video tutorials before proceeding. At least the forums here if nothing else. They spared me a great deal of headaches and I got set up quickly. Addendum: do a guinea pig game first, or use Vortex on a CLEAN installation. If you try it on a currently running game, you run a higher risk of encountering issues.

Xerrai
Thank you all for the advice. Another question I have is Vortex auto imported my plugins I think, but not the mods. Should I have deleted NMM first or is this something I shouldn't be concerned about? Based off your experiences I wanna know what's the best route. As far as how many mods I have 186 in total and 165 active on NMM.

Should I have deleted NMM first or is this something I shouldn't be concerned about? Based off your experiences I wanna know what's the best route. The BEST route would've been to uninstall the NMM installed mods with NMM, then start afresh with an unmodded game with Vortex. That's how I started with Vortex as well. I was using NMM for Skyrim SE, and decided to reinstall Fallout 4, so in order to get the best experimental experience with Vortex, where I wouldn't be risking a load order with hundreds of mods in it, I started with a clean install of Fallout 4.In that process, I slowly ended up learning all about Vortex along the way as well, and I'm glad I did. After that I decided to reinstall Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas and see how Vortex did with the older games. It worked quite well, although it had some trouble with some older mods due to there not being a real 'packaging standard" for mods at the time. After that it didn't take much for me to wipe my Skyrim SE installation, remove NMM, and redo my Skyrim SE setup with Vortex so I could have everything under one Mod Manager.Next up, Oblivion (Which is going to take some work, because I will have to use OBMM and extract those mods and repackage them for a Modern Vortex Setup

I'll uninstall both and redo everything with Vortex and with reinstalling the mods I'm supposed to do it manual link instead of the vortex link? If you have Vortex setup to use NXM links, then you can use the "Download with Mod Manager" button, the advantage of that being, that you will also get the MetaData for each modIf you download manually you won't get that
rmm200
My approach is different...My saves go back years - and I am quite attached to them.Migrate your archives to Vortex. These are the .zip and .rar type files. Put them in the Vortex Downloads directory. When you set up a profile in Vortex, use the import save function. Copy those saves you want to keep.Install all the mods you want from archives.Back on the Saves page, pick a save and select Restore save game plugins.Add back any mods that restore missed. You may have to download them.I have used a variation of this method ever since Vortex came out. Never caused me a problem. But then I do a lot of save game cleaning.YMMV.
