Is beauty lore-unfriendly?

  1. 1. Is making people attractive lore-unfriendly/unrealistic?

    • Skyrim doesn't have supermodels; there's no avon lady handing out beauty products, so the vanilla appearance is how they're supposed to look.

    • Overhauling specific characters to be more attractive is fine, but not every character in the game.

    • Making everyone attractive is okay, since the lore doesn't specifically say everyone isn't... but H-cup breasts and other unrealistic proportions isn't okay

    • I like to make my game look like the set of a porno, with big ol jiggle physics everywhere.

  2. 2. Is skimpy armor lore-friendly/realistic?

    • No, armor is made to protect, not show off your belly and thighs. People in skimpy armor die quick, even if they do look good while doing so.

    • Skimpy armor is okay, so long as it's only light armor.

    • Skimpy armor is okay, so long as all the skimpy armor has reduced defense ratings to keep it realistic.

    • Most fantasy stuff has skimpy armor, so it's okay - obviously people just move so attacks only hit the armored parts!

    • Clearly, the skimpy armors are magical, and their protective qualities come from magic rather than physical cover.

    • It's hard to hit someone while being distracted by how hot they are... right?

  3. 3. How about cutesy/anime/modern outfits?

    • No, all those outfits are definitely not lore friendly.

    • All those outfits can be explained; some creative new tailor is making them, or maybe they're fashions from a daedric realm like the shivering isles. A good explenation makes it lore friendly.

    • My character was teleported to the world of Skyrim from our world, and that's why they have modern clothing.

So we all know that there are many mods that make characters more attractive, which is one part of this concept. The other part of this concept is clothing mods that add "cute" clothing, or clothing that seems a bit out of place ( i.e. school girl/anime type outfits, modern clothings ). Then there are skimpy armors; a common sight in the fantasy genre, but a rather uncommon sight if you're looking at artifacts from the real life ancient world.

So my question is, in your opinion in regards to your own game and how you have customized it, where is the line between lore friendly and lore un-friendly material?

Also, which of these options do you consider realistic, and how important is in-game realism to your play experience?

This is a single player game. As such, you determine what is lore in your game. No one has the right to criticize anyone about what is or isn't lore. You and only you determine what is lore in your game and you should not pay attention to anyone that says anything different.

Ooooh yeah, you can start a discussion now where every nerd can post a few sides of blabla or you can choose the simple way and just install what you like :D

lol.

Like they said, it's your game. Enjoy it your way. If you want to be strict about "lore", I don't recall seeing a shower/bath or mirror anywhere in the game, (pre)medieval times (or their fantasy equivalent) weren't known for their high standards of hygiene (toilets are a bucket and some straw!), and the industry supporting things like lacy panties is a few industrial revolutions away.

Personally, I like my skyrim grimy and I would like to see more one-armed beggars and lepers and dirt. But if you want skyrim to look like Final Fantasy, more power to you.

I, and probably every other person on the planet, allready know that this is a single player game and that we all customize our own game to our own tastes. The question isn't "should players be allowed to customize their own game as they see fit", since the answer to that is fairly obvious.

I for one, find the lore in these games mind-bending and breath-taking. When someone makes a mod that fits in so well in the game that I can not tell it from something there all along I find just amazing. That being said I have no desire to look at what I consider to be butt-ugly avatars and people that have never had a bath...despite the fact I am pretty sure at least someone would have fallen into one of those many, many bodies of water.

The great things about these moddable games is that it gives this wonderful universe at a backdrop and lets people mod...and place mods in the game-as their pleasure dictates. We do not judge mods as to their "lore" friendliness and we respect the rights of modder and modee (is that a word?) as we can according to the rules set up on this site.

Any commentary on someone's mod or their choice of mods is to be polite and constructive or not at all. I admit I hate to see topics like this as they typically degrade into a troll-fest. I hope that folks that post will perhaps look beyond the typical answers and have a good discussion.

When it comes to fantasy games like this you need to disassociate yourself from our own history otherwise we would be held down by some tight restrictions wouldn't we? These games were made based on our history like similarities in weaponry, architecture, attire, the concept of magic, mythical creatures etc. but the similarities end at a point. If dragons can be added to the mix then I don't think the NPCs should be restricted to classical depictions. Edited by Ironman5000

I admit to having cleaned people up in my game, only because I like my guys pretty ^^; I also haven't downloaded a single armor or clothing mod except for Cloaks (because you can already see Ulfric wearing one, it's not like it's a great innovation in the world :P) and Immersive Armors, only because it was required for my SSS patch. Lore in my own personal game is basically "anything the developers didn't put there isn't lore", which is pretty restrictive I suppose, but I always feel like I'm cheating when I add anything new unless it's massively restricting to me.

However, sort of on the subject, what I find lore-unfriendly is the fact that everyone in Skyrim is either in shape or really in shape. If someone made a mod that made the women one of three forms - Matronly, Burly, or Sickly - and the men Portly, Brawny, or Sickly, I would download that in a heartbeat.
