I CANT DIE - Please help

Hello fellow wasteland folks : )

So - I may have installed a mod causing my character to be immortal. And I may have unistalled it too.
And I really dont know which.
After getting knocked down, the player sits for a while and stands up like a boss.

Well - I've been trying to fiddle around with Resaver, with no luck. (I'm no expert)

Are there any workarounds for this problem?
I've read most of the topics arond the web, and it seems this problem is common.
I know a bit of cosole command.
I deleted the 'essential' string in my ini's as this solved the problem. (But my companions kept dying)

I will be most gratefull for any tips and help.
Greetings from Wilder

Several mods recover player death by setting essential and managing bleedout; death matters, playerundead, knockout framework.

To reverse the stuck setting, install my super lightweight Playerundead then use the aid item to enable/disable and life (well, death) will be good again.

EDIT: sorry no don't bother doing that as Playerundead detects if the player is already essential and shuts down to avoid recursing the effect.

I looked at your cool mod but I didnt try to install it, as per your suggestion.

But thanks for replying : )

I don't know every mod you have listed there, but to say it in general: It's unlikely that a weapon mod caused this, or a armor mod and of course not cbbe. Also you can take out the unofficial patch.

Would bet that it either lays on a questmod (depending what is included in the questmod), or on some mod you had once installed and deleted later on.

Also, to type 2 times "tgm" undones tgm. 1 time would have been enough^^. So you should load again and only test it 1 time with tgm. Btw. I hope I have also this "bug" in real life one day .

Edit: Sorry I couldn't resist... :|.

both Death matters, and Player Essential mods are scripted, so removing them is not enough

so chances are you installed 1 of the scripted mods, deleted it, but scripts bake into the saved games, so removing the mods simply orphans the scripts which could potentionally contain the essentail flag for the player and thus still apply even after the mod is removed, as well as leading into more serious issues later on.

Edit: just noticed that resaver is a part of fallrim tools.

what you could do is download said mod again, and modify the script to remove the essential flag, as value changes do not always take effect when the mod is removed, it needs to be modifed, especially if it is scripted due to the script still being their.

on the fallout 4 nexus main page, click on the mods tab at the top of the page, and click on download history, this will show you all the mods you have downloaded since account creation, then re-download them, look for the scripted mods, then open said mods into the Creation kit, and you will need to find out where the scripts are.

reply here with all the scripted mods you use, and i will go ahead and download them, and check them out in CK, then advise on how to reset the essential flag, assuming it was done by a script rather then modifieng the player actor.

Heyas Bryan! An interesting problem. Your thread title reminds me of a line from the Highlander movie.

"My name is Conner McCloud, and I canna die."

As others have mentioned, you are most likely stuck with your character set as "essential". Especially since removing that from your ini file affected your companions.

My recommendation is to try out Cheat Terminal. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/13285

It's a holotape that has settings for enabling/disabling player essential, I THINK companion essential, and possibly even godmode. (Or the last one maybe that's Cheat Room Holotape on Bethesda). The menu system for Cheat Terminal takes a bit of getting used to, and tinkering around with it to find everything.

But yes, the essential flag is similar of both companions, and the player. If your health drops down to the death area, your butt gets floored. Literally. Or is that surreally, since this is a game? Anyway, yeah, you gotta sit there til you heal up a bit.

As gamewinner mentioned, this is not a problem that will go away, because it's a script (and possibly an abandoned one) that is locked into your savegames. As such, you may have to run the Enable/Disable essential cheat each time that script tries to fire.

And while this is bad news, depending on how far along that character is, Per Gamewinner's information, I would highly recommend deleting all the saves that are affected (IE that entire character) and start a new one. Entirely up to you tho.

Hope this helps.

I typed tgm and it said ' god mode disabled '

I typed it again and the prompt was the same

I still can't die -

Hang on

You typed tgm, and it said "god mode disabled"

Then you typed tgm, and it said "God mode disabled" AGAIN?

Or did it say "god mode ENABLED"?

Because that should be a toggle

IE, type tgm once = "god mode enabled"

Type tgm a second time = "God mod disabled."

Also, when you typed tgm ONCE and it said "God mod disabled", did you try to get killed?

Because the very first time you type it, ever, it should say "God mode ENABLED", not DISABLED.

After all I read I guess his save game starts with tgm enabled. Still I believe more on a script problem in his save game from deleted mods or maybe some stuck queststage from a questmod if he has a questmod installed that plays around with the essential flag. Something I don't know since I have only read about the most questmods he has installed.
