kvnchrist
I don't know how old many of you are, but I remember when people would just come to an agreement on something mutually beneficial, or at least we could agree to disagree and part without either destroying each other or messaging one another's ego. I remember when the term enlightened came out so that those who agreed with someones ideals could verbally pat those people on their heads for following along. Now we have the word WOKE! that pretty much means the same thing. I just don't get the idea of seemingly having to message someones ego for agreeing with another. It reminds me of a carnival game show host that has to inflat others ego to make them feel better about themselves instead of letting the data speak for itself. Those who don't agree with that data aren't going to be persuaded by rhetoric and standing around praising each other will just amuse those same sceptics. SnowFox35
I'm only 15, so I speak from the perspective of a high school student here. I've never heard woke actually used in talk from my schoolmates, although other talk and slang might be similar. A lot of kids these says might also attempt being "badass" or uncaring to appear cooler. Whether the same standard was followed in the other generations, I'm not sure - at least not to the same extent.
StormWolf01
kvn- that's not what "woke" means. It's nothing like the same thing.woke is a perceived state of social-political correctness. It's difficult to put it into words to fully describe it. Because it's a dangerous subject. It's dangerous, because it's so easy to set some people off about it.It's not so much about agreeing with somebody's ideals, it's about living up to an ideological standard. For those of us who grew up in a different time period, it's kinda something to just stay away from. We get ourselves in trouble.
HeyYou
kvn- that's not what "woke" means. For those of us who grew up in a different time period, it's kinda something to just stay away from. We get ourselves in trouble. And that is a WHOLE lot easier these days..... It seems that there are a pretty significant crowd of folks just looking for something to be offended about. Creative interpretation taken to a whole new level. To me, "woke" means: "Now you see things my way."...... and that's it. It isn't about any social enlightenment, or some noble ideal, or whathaveyou. It's about agreeing with the radicals. Quite frankly, I feel that our society has been going downhill at an ever increasing pace these last few decades. The whole 'politically correct' movement has taken on a momentum all it's own, and society is a whole lot worse for it. The 'progressive' ideals that are being forced down our throats, in everything from basic education, to our jobs, have bred a generation of folks that feel entitled to a standard of living they deem 'acceptable', have no idea how to handle conflict, and seem to think they have a RIGHT!!!! not to be offended by anything they see/hear. And if they are, it should be BANNED!!!! They allow their emotions to control their life, and anyone that steps on them is a barbarian, racist, misogynist, or some other clever insulting term. I think Denzel Washington said it best in the movie Demolition Man. "The world has become a brady-bunch, pussy-whipped version of itself." And that was not meant as a compliment. :D

They allow their emotions to control their life, and anyone that steps on them is a barbarian, racist, misogynist, or some other clever insulting term.More like they allow their emotions to ruin their life, and try to drag anybody down with them. But yeah.

Mktavish
If you were woke on the term woke , then you would know it has passed its prime , and is now as much a term to denigrate as to propitiate . LOL sorry , those terms probably don't explain the phenomenon around "woke" well enough. But I thought they had some poetic value together. However , I don't see it as any different than the many terms used as a social tool that came before it. Climbing up a scale of pride , hitting a peak , then descending through arrogance. The difference today being how fast that happens . And if charted from past points , then starts to resemble a swirling vortex of getting closer to the middle. So if society is going down the toilet so to speak ... points near the outer rim are just as bad as those near the center. StormWolf01
Yeah, if only that were true. No, there's no cure for THAT plague, as of yet. Once woke is out of mega corporations, and out of politics, then, maybe then it'll start to die off.Well, other than they're brainwashing elementary school kids, high school kids, and college students with that drek. Here's a really good example of just how much sense woke makes.Gillette. A company that makes the most of it's money, selling men's razors. Gillette gets woke.Beginning of the year, Gillette releases a commercial condemning men and boys.Do a search on the internet for "Gillette loses 8 BILLION" if you wanna see the video of the commercial. Mktavish
I'm just saying the terms' usage from what I have seen ... is just as much or more , meant to be an insult towards the person , these days at least. And it doesn't seem much different than the many forms of finding Christ to me ? The idea of society circling the toilet ... I was meaning to illustrate how trends are circular , and seem to be changing / going around faster ... ergo a graph showing a spiral. Ya I remember the Gillette commercial.
