Reneer
God forbid we don't want to be nagged to pay for something, right?Sure, but the thing you're getting for free costs money for the person providing the free thing to, you know, provide said free thing. So if you have to jump through a hoop or two in order to increase the chances that people will switch to premium and keep the site running then you're still getting your free stuff for free, just 10 seconds slower per - still 100% free - mod. Now, do I see those pages or have to wait 5 extra seconds per mod download? No. I bought lifetime premium as a way of saying thank you to a site that has hosted my mods - for free - for over a decade. If I were designing the system I would have removed the extra "slow download" click, but the extra 5 seconds per download is (probably) an anti-DDoS / anti-scraping tool and likely isn't going away. axonis
It's not really "for free" because you must first submit to specific terms of service. It used to be free for files under 2 megabytes. For the record, the homepage alone without ads is 11 megabytes -- and that's really free.

What they're doing isn't going to get people to pay for premium though, or at least, not enough to matter in the long run. Sure, they might get a single month long premium subscription from some newcomer who doesn't know the site, but. Long time users of Nexus know that premium exists, and those who are willing to spend money to help support the site don't need to be reminded of it every single time they download any file ever in order to do so. Rather, forcibly reminding us in this type of way is far more likely to drive away long time users, the very people who do contribute when they can. For example, I love Nexus, which is why I'm a supporter and not a free member, but the way they've gone about this hit me straight in my (admittedly big) FITE ME button. It makes me want to NOT pay for premium out of spite, because this is just so poorly and tastelessly done.
StormWolf01
What do you premium white knights have to say for yourselves now? Now even you can't download in peace.Just that you're wrong and that we can "download in peace" just fine because the screen you're whining about doesn't show up for us. Also the only hate filled comments I've seen so far come from yourself and a couple of others who share your self-entitled opinion. Ah yes, the people who have paid for supporter status to show their support are ALSO self-entitled. Good job proving to them that anything less than premium is worthless and 'inferior' to your almighty premium status. Of course you'd say something like that. That's all most of the premium backers have been doing. God forbid we don't want to be nagged to pay for something, right? We must be entitled. Ok, so I want to mention something here. You're talking about a member, who has been a part of this community for well OVER 10 years. A person, who's name any of us that spend any time actually participating in this community, recognize. A guy who's given MORE than "quite a bit" to this place, and the members here. This guy has been around long enough to see all the good, some of the bad, and some of the downright ugly, that has gone on here. He's seen all the changes that this place has gone through, over the years. I can tell you, it's gone through a lot.But despite all of that, some of us still have faith, and support for the place. I'll be honest. Some of the people on here remind me of the kid that you can't get to move outta the basement. Then throws a fit when you ask them to clean their room. Or, buy their own dinner once in a while, or help pay the electricity or water bill.

It wasn't helped that I saw this either when I went to download a file: (haven't followed this thread all that close so it's possible I missed some info  ) Edited December 13, 2019 by Niborino9409

He's been running this site a long time and has, for the most part as far as I'm concerned, done a great job at it. He certainly knew beforehand that this change might drive some people away - potentially like yourself - but that the protest and some users leaving would be be worth it in the long run for Nexus Mods from a financial / company-benefit standpoint. Obviously I'm ascribing thoughts and behavior to someone else, so I could be wrong, but what we are seeing being implemented - and the backlash - are typically known well in advance by the company / the people making the decisions to implement something. Awesome avatar image, by the way. :D
HadToRegister
If you feel some type of way because some of us don't want to support a monopoly like Nexus then that's a you problem. Why don't you stop supporting that "Evil Monopoly" of an Internet service provider you have, if you hate supporting Monopolies. Someone posted the screenshot... It's literally two buttons, one that says, SLOW DOWNLOAD, and the other says FAST DOWNLOAD, with a comparison list.Exactly like all of these Download sites, like MegaUpload, or whatever is out there does.THIS is what people are getting all worked up about? Niborino9409
My point with the image was mainly that I hadn't seen it that big before. Takes you back a bit when it has never been so big before. The download speed comparison was smaller before. :)
joshl77
Being bothered by something annoying and inconvenient is normal; we all experience this each and every day to some extent. As we all know, many of the things that bug one person wouldn't bug another. I hope some of 'you' keep that in mind when talking down to or belittling others because their views don't align with your own on this topic.
