The shaming of non-premium users needs to stop!

Recommended Posts

Absolutely wild seeing people try to defend this.

I've considered buying premium for a while now to show appreciation for the service, as many people do. But here's the problem: if you want people to give you money out of pure goodwill, then you need to treat them right. This design change is outright user-hostile, and the Nexus definitely won't see a cent from me as long as they treat users in this manner.

What do you premium white knights have to say for yourselves now? Now even you can't download in peace.

Just that you're wrong and that we can "download in peace" just fine because the screen you're whining about doesn't show up for us.

Also the only hate filled comments I've seen so far come from yourself and a couple of others who share your self-entitled opinion.

Ah yes, the people who have paid for supporter status to show their support are ALSO self-entitled. Good job proving to them that anything less than premium is worthless and 'inferior' to your almighty premium status.

Of course you'd say something like that. That's all most of the premium backers have been doing. God forbid we don't want to be nagged to pay for something, right? We must be entitled.

As opposed to you, who comes out of nowhere, making their very first post a complaint about how awful it is that you see a nag screen when you don't pay a dime into the system.

There's a term for people who do this - sucking bandwidth from a site and never contributing back to it - leech. Old term but IMO entirely appropriate to describe someone who's only post is an attempt to make contributing members look bad for having contributed in the first place.

So maybe instead of complaining that your freeloading ways are finally being called out, you could fork over the $2 and be done with it.

If I'm not mistaken, Supporter ($2 level, once only) status doesn't seem to remove either the "Slow / Fast" popup or the "Please wait 5 seconds" bit. But as I've mentioned earlier, the "Please wait 5 seconds" page isn't meant as a nag, it is designed to keep people from scraping mods.

You've been a member since 2011, that's 8 years.

In that time you haven't become a premium member, and instead, I'm willing to bet you roll out that claim whenever the Nexus makes a change you don't like.

After being a non-paying member going on 8 years now, don't you think the "I was going to become a Premium member, until you did X" is kind of tired and pointless?

Download speed cap is fine and if I'm not mistaken isn't even new with this update. Premium needs to have substantial benefits for this website to stay afloat considering how many of us run adblockers; hosting and bandwith isn't free. However, to try to get users to buy premium by actively, deliberately inconveniencing them with extra screens is irritating and outright crappy design and makes the site feel like a cheap file-sharing service instead of the amazing hub for modding that it is. Making it more frustrating for users to access the content they come here for isn't smart, especially when said content is by and large created by those users. I think flairtorc's post hits the nail on the head to be honest - it's a move that regardless of its intent or intended outcome feels hostile/negative to the user, hence the understandable(although a tad melodramatic) reactions in this thread.

It doesn't. As a supporter I get the nag.

I didn't know there's a timeout nag as well. I never got that.
