Starblast16
For some reason after the 1.1.4 update my copy of Vortex started saying its corrupted and will only partially work. I was hoping the 1.1.5 update would fix it but apparently not. It worked fine until that update. And I know I installed everything correctly and that Windows Defender is not bothering it. This is honestly driving me nuts.

DraculaCronqvist
I have the very same problem, and a reinstall does not work. It still says it's corrupted. Now I can neither use the old or the new version of Vortex, because both now are corrupted.
Starblast16
Figured it out. It's the damned screwy permissions for messing with the Program Files directory. I ended up moving Vortex to my Documents folder and used the Custom Install Location installer. Dammit Microsoft... FIX THAT DAMNED BUG IN WINDOWS 10! I'm an admin dammit! And I'm the only one who uses this laptop!

Yup, I hate that Microsoft, by default insists on installing everything to Program Files, then protects the folder so much, it's own Security won't allow anything to work. Windows 10 is like Gollum when it comes to the Program Files folder.
Tannin42
Umm, no, sorry, you're simply wrong on that. The permissions on Program Files may be tedious but they are very important for security and this is not about multiple people using your computer, it's about malicious software. The permission system prevents malicious software (in case the AV fails) from spreading without your knowledge. And tbh.: If you weren't struggling against these security measures, you wouldn't have a problem. The vortex installer (like any proper software installer) will ask for the right to make changes to the system, then install files to Program Files and that will be successful on every default/properly configured system. After that the application files are protected against tampering which is a good thing.None of this is more than a mild inconvenience until you fight the system and break permissions to get your way. The concept of programs being in a standard, read-only location has been in place on all Unixoid system ever and in windows for over 25 years now. It's a tried and true practice for everyone from newbie to server administrator and the only people struggling are those stuck in a windows 95/98 mindset trying to apply a permission concept that pre-dates the internet. Applications belong in "Program Files", Everything else is objectively bad.
AugustaCalidia
Starting with Windows 7, I have installed all my games and mod managers as Windows Program files. I have never had permission issues of any consequence, nor have I ever been unable to install and operate a program as a result. I now have Windows 10 Pro.
