What's your bang bang, bro?

Ok, yeah, some guy asked me that at the shooting range a while back.

Anyway, what kinda guns do y'all prefer in the game?

I mostly prefer ballistics, as I have a bad habit of not being able to find the bodies after shooting things. And puddles and ash piles make that even more difficult. Plus, if I end up with a corpse somewhere high up that I don't wanna take a few dozen flights of stairs to get to, a grenade or two will blow the corpse right down to me (proper applications of explosives can cure most any situation) :D

Tho, I do really gotta say that I love the FX of just blasting the bejeezus outta something with a gauss!

For a while, I'd really been using pistols a lot, but the sneaking animation for pistols is just suckish, so I tend not to do that as much anymore.

I've pretty much gotten away from most of the vanilla weapons (But dammit, I doooooo love that gauss!) and have mostly gone with mod guns for personal use.

That, and I tend to mod even mod guns out, and I'll be darned if I'm gonna make those raiders, gunners, and BoS soldiers EVEN MORE accurate.

I swear, how does a strung out junky manage to blow the hairs off a fly's butt with every shot???

For those of us who carry, does that make any kind of difference for you, in what you pack in game? I'm finding that it does, for me.

My real life guns don't have any impact on what I carry in game.

I tend to carry three weapons, pistol, full-auto combat rifle of some variety, and a sniper rifle as well. I have modern firearms/sidearms installed, so, there is a HUGE variety of weapons available.... (to be used against you as well, watch out for the Super Mutants with a frigging Vulcan, that HURTS!) For the most part, I am concerned about the amount of damage a pistol can do per shot, for the combat rifle, it's damage per second, for the sniper, range is the determining factor. I run the game with UGrids set to 7, so, the 'vanilla' ranged weapons just won't cut it. According to theory, at longer ranges than your weapon is rated for, you projectile 'drops off' significantly. Seems more to me that it just ceases to exist. :)

I've downloaded some of the available gun mods that I have owned. Like the Walther p99, HK USP, and the HK45 (tho mine was the p30. And hey, I like modern German firearms.) As well as some that I'd have liked to have owned, like the HK G36. The HK VP9 and SK were my daily carry, but sadly those aren't available as mods.

I have several revolver mods that I like, for smaller encounters with not too many enemies. Tho most of them (ah heck, almost all of them) I've converted over to double action.

I dunno why, but I just like going into the Combat Zone "wild west" style with a .44

That raider that sits in the front row seat as you walk in the door of the arena area usually gets a tap to the back of the head as my start to the combat.

I tend to carry at least 2 of each. A regular version, and a silenced version. With Rifles, it's usually all silenced, but one version with a long range scope.

I've been thinking about checking out the Modern Firearms pack, along with a couple of others. I've got them downloaded, I dunno why I've never gotten around to installing them tho.

Now that you mention it, I do remember you mentioning the Ugrids mod. Yikes! The prospect of facing a Vulcan cannon, alone is a scary prospect. Throw in a tough super mutant, and OUCH.

Heh, the way I play, I'd probly do a save right before that encounter, try to duke it out with them, then afterwards, reload the save, and just pick them off with a missile launcher for the sheer satisfaction of doing it! ;D

Yeah, there is ways to mod out the range nerf on damage, on a weapon. Tho I've never really felt the need to mess with it. I have experienced that on a few occasions tho. Long range head shot that just looks like a small child slapped them in the face.

Kinda off topic, but has anybody actually "hit" a raider or gunner, or other human with a grenade? There's been several times, that I've been able to bounce a 'nade off of a raider's head, and they just turn around to look at it like "what the heck was tha...?" BOOM.

I do believe the G36 is included in modern firearms. :)

I also use Pack Attack, a mod that dramatically improves combat AI. (and also increases spawns, all of which, is configurable. :) ) So I see random patrols of various types on a regular basis. My level 70 character ran across a group of super muties, six of them, I believe, and TWO of them had Vulcans.... I was caught unaware, fighting a couple gunners at the location, and was, unfortunately, caught out in the open by the muties.... Needless to say, they made short work of me. :D

I like shotguns.

Sometimes I use them to hunt radstags. Especially entertaining with the explosive legendary effect. Bambi go boom boom.

Currently using the Halo shotgun from the Misriah armoury mod. It completes me.

At one time, I had the combat shotgun, 32 round mag, with the explosive effect.... I kept wondering why I was dying so often, until it was pointed out to me that the 15 points explosive damage was per projectile, and had an area of effect. I was killing myself. :D

Ahhhhh, it was the pack attack mod that you'd mentioned a while back that I was thinking of!

Yes, yes I do believe that the G36 IS included in the modern firearms pack :) I'm currently using the G36 complex mod atm tho.

LOL you're really making me think about finding that mod on my external drive and installing it ;)

Does it have a version of the Mini-14? That's another mod I've been thinking about, as I used to own a Mini-30 which is the 7.62 variant.

Oh man, that sounds like a bad situation indeed. Especially 2 of them. I hope that you had a recent save prior to that!

Ahhhh hahahaha! I used to go packing an explosive round shotgun as well! I think my favorite scene with that one, was taking out Skinny Malone, all 3 of his bodyguards, AND Darla all with a 3 round burst into Malone!

Yeah I've done that a few times as well. Usually full auto, jumping the trigger too soon when something is right around the corner that I just ducked around.

RatBoy- hahaha I like to take the shotgun for mole rat hunting. Those *bleepers* are really hard to hit when they burst up under your feet! I like them for bear hunting, as well :D

I keep seeing your screen name, and I keep wanting to ask: I used to be on a paintball team with a guy who used the handle RatBoy69, back around the KC metro area. Any relation?

Misriah Armory is another of the mods that I have saved to disk but haven't installed yet :(

oooooooo! Thanks for the list! I've actually got that site open in another tab right at the moment. Just hadn't seen the list link.

I just watched a tube about that vulcan.

ohhhhhhhhh hoohhh hohhhh my gawd...! That would be some serious grade A bang bang. Tho... a REPLACER? Yeah.....I can definitely see that as being a challenge to say the very least!

Looks like the mod has a FN2000 and Augie A3!! I've always wanted to get my hands on both of those!

The vid I'd watched of the mod was kinda old. Did they ever get around to fixing those horrible mag reload anims?

This might be something for you guys to check out, for your damage per shot. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10289/ The gatling rifle. Totally Not immersive, but just fun as all hell! Even has a shotgun chambering!! :D And since it's a "rifle" you don't have to deal with that slow, cruddy sneak like you do with a gatling gun.

I'm not real big on using VATS a lot aside from on critters that move too fast for my controller to get a good targeting on (There's GOTTA be a way to slow my controls down!!!) but seeing this weapon totally RIP something apart in VATS is definitely worth the download :D

I hate power trips (aka Todd's favourite game difficulty) with a passion.

Bought Fallout 4 + DLCs on Christmas Sale 2016/17, best decision ever. 50% off, Survival Mode, less bugs, more mods to up the difficulty. First 20 hours were amazing. I got really bad RNG, so I managed to contract every possible disease, had accumulated quite a bit of rads, was famished (due to parasites and the fear of contracting even more diseases due to Radaway) and finally got some stimpacks and antibiotics by exploiting the respawn bug near the Concord parking lot (the First Aid Box in the bus), right before the next round of periodic damage would have killed me. I was around level 20 and the best (more like the only) legendary I had, was a fully upgraded .45 Deadeye pipe rifle. So yay, best experience in any BGS Game since Morrowind!

I never use automatic weapons. They are boring and chew through ammo way too fast. I use upgraded pipe pistols as long as possible. In my current game I use a mod that slows down the leveling process to about 25%. My character is level 18 and right now I am very happy with my mid-tier upgraded pipe bolt action sniper rifle and my plasma-infused 10mm. I also use a combat shotgun for bigger stuff and mobs.
