What's your bang bang, bro?

Before I went to bed this morning, I had the pleasure of testing out the new bullpup by NovaFinch. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/43199

This weapon is... Oh my.

The textures and meshes are beautiful and amazing. The weapon itself handles extremely well, especially since it fires a .50 cal variant.

She's not an early stage rifle, as it does do a pretty significant amount of damage. The recoil itself is to be expected of a 50 cal, and while yeah... she'll get away from you if hold back the trigger, it's not that kinda deal where you are looking up at empty sky when the mag runs dry.

There is a bit of spread, I may tinker with the cone a tad.

The fire rate is superb! One of the BEST semi-auto shooters that I've shot, right out of the box. Nova has a very interesting way of handling the fire speed for semi auto.

It's ZERO! When I brought this up, Nova explained that by doing this, it doesn't put the game's limit on the fire rate, and you can literally shoot as fast as you pull the trigger. Which is great! I'm definitely gonna remember that for my own tinkerings.

Full auto however... well, the only complaint that I have there, is that she mag dumps FAST.

So it's definitely a lot of fun, but for prolonged engagements, you definitely want to trigger off short bursts. Just for ammo consumption.

Comes with an option for explosive ammo. Now, on this note. If you're the type that relies on splash damage, you're not going to get it here. It's a much more realistic explosive ammo that does a lot more damage, in a very small detonation. However, the graphics for the fireworks are VERY nice.

I also really like how he's got it set up that the different types of ammo come as Magazine upgrades, not receiver upgrades. Much realism there.

I also like that he has the options set up for semi auto, 2 shot burst (that's not a typo) and Full auto are separate upgrades, so you don't have to worry about wasting a receiver slot. Or have to cycle through twice as many different receivers at the workbench. Streamlined workflow there.

There's a great selection of different scopes, so many of which have gorgeous custom reticles. Tho, you're definitely gonna want to use one, if you are a 1st person shooter. The rear peep on the iron sights doesn't give you a very good sight picture.

The animations run fast, and smooth. You're definitely not gonna get caught with your pants down, while reloading. And seeing your character toss away the empty mag is really cool as well.

I really, really wanna pull an "AverageBaters" here. I rate this weapon as "The hot girl you see in the bar who makes you have to change your shorts just at the sight of her".

heyas Rasikko. Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm not fond of the vanilla sniper rifles, myself. bolt action takes too long to reload, and breaks the scope lock. And the recoil on them makes you completely lose your target. So I prefer semi-auto's for my sniping.

And you're right, the vanilla game really is not geared for the long range assassin. As soon as you pop off a shot, every feral ghoul within 2 miles knows exactly where you are, and exactly how to get ot to you.

I use awkrc or USO UCO to add shadowed to all of my armor pieces, bracing to one of my arm pieces for scope stability, and the ummmm... it's the armor addon that decreases your chances of being detected because of sound, to the boots.

Then I add Assassins legendary to my sniping weapon, as it slows time, while scoped aiming.

Now, throw in these particular mods

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/8409

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/42386

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/12221

along with either this

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/36350

or this https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/7923

and you become the stuff of nightmares.

Assuming that your rifle has the range to hit the target, and still do damage... I can pop ferals and not have them come after me, if I am far enough out of range. I can blow away bugs, and not have them come after me, if I am far enough out of range. At night. During daylight, or if I'm highlighted, yeah... a lot of times they'll still come after me.

A few mods to help improve your scoped sighting.

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/23824

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2849 ( I love this one, personally)

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/11149 This one, if you haven't got a mod that gives you targeting sensors

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14267 This one can cause a stutter tho, if you're not on a good machine.

And this one for me, playing in low light on a laptop is a must have. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/6376

Another thing to keep in mind that helps to blow your detection is the weight of your gear. How much your armor weighs will work for or against you. How much your gun weighs, will do the same. Naturally, your companions, if you choose to use them, can also blow your detection out the window.

I use AFT to make them undetectable. But AFT is pretty far reaching, and it's not for everybody.

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/5612 this can help.

And then you have this, for when you need to be quiet, but don't have the option of sniping. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/19191

I use the hunting rifle quite a lot, backed by a sawed-off pistol grip double barrel shotgun for close quarter. But without some modding the rifle is not fun. Damage should be set much higher. See Trough Scopes mod is mandatory for me, and perhaps for anybody who looked through a real scope on a gun one time or the other. It's interesting for sniping to change the projectiles from the vanilla (beam) to physical bullets (missile) and put them under the influence of gravity (especially if you also use low velocity weapons like crossbows). You should also set the damage after max range higher than the vanilla 0.5. All other stuff, like legendary helpers, is not for me.

In my new playthrough there will be available, beside crossbows and bows, only pipe bolt-action guns and pipe revolvers. Better weapons are gone or extremely rare. No normal pipeguns, the thought is that the ammo is too bad to be used in semiautomatics or automatics (I'm obviously not playing according to lore...). I'm curious how the pipe bolt-action will play, never ever used it. I'm more afraid however not to have a shotgun, against the pesky stingwings and ghouls.

I can honestly say that I would not ever make a pipe gun my primary weapon. I messed around with a few of them for some testing purposes, and the accuracy with them was just... ugh. I mean, I could still hit, but the spread was just all over the place.

That mod, and that author, Yeah, her name is Tooun, has done some really, really ground breaking, game changing work.

I am very seriously waiting to see what comes from her next.

Now, on that particular mod, I do just wanna add that parents may not want their kids to use that one. One of the knives... well... it's a stabber, but it's not a .... knife.

LOL You should watch MxR's mixed review on it, he's playing using the toy, and his commentary is pretty funny.

Captainoob's video on it is really good, and hearing the way he says "knife" in the vid is actually pretty funny.

I have not tested it yet, but that mod looks as though it is a definite must have!

If nothing else is available, you don't have much choice, do you? A pipe bolt-action is anyway better than a bow or crossbow.

The weapons are not vanilla but a bit changed, of course. Higher damage, higher post max range damage, much slower reload, they can jam, for example. Human health, as a marker, is between 150 and 200, level-independent (a deathclaw matriarch has 2000 hp, to compare). A wood bow deals 60 damage, same the standard crossbow, a pipe revolver with short barrel is also 60 damage, a pipe bolt-action with long barrel is 120 damage, a lever-action 45/70 is 140 damage. You can oneshot most unarmored humans with your pipe bolt-action with torso hits (damage modifier 3, 120 x 0.5 x 3 = 180 damage) but not with groin hits (modifier 2, 120 x 0.5 x 2 = 120 damage).

I try to simulate a low tech primitive world far more in the future than normal FO4. Clothing, weapons, armor are quite different. Because humans do have bad weapons, the creatures of the C. get a lot stronger relatively, of course. But life in FO4 is so easy with good weapons and armor, it gets boring. I also don't like heroes and don't want to be the biggest badass in the Commonwealth.

Ohhh that's right. You play for serious challenge. My apologies, that had slipped my mind Gaela.

I can't argue with the boring part of it. I've been playing FO4 for nearly a year now, and am really starting to think about looking for something new.

Still tho, if it was me, I'd definitely have to do some accurizing of those pipe guns. I mean I know that isn't lore friendly, but firing off 6 shots and only hitting with maybe 2 or 3 would just drive me nuts, LOL.
