dark47
I understand it's just a game and all, but I really dislike that Fatman and refuse to use it. The dam game insists on almost tossing it into my inventory though. It's everywhere almost. the South Boston Checkpoint and even Fort Hagen Armory. Has anyone used it to take out Kellogg? I'm really tempted to try that. For role-playing reasons, I never use it. Can't bring myself to add more radiation to the area. Yeah, yeah - it's just a game, but I really get into it. StormWolf01
Heyas Dark- I actually don't really use the fatman for any kind of serious gameplay. It's more of a toy for me, when I'm bored, and just wanna blow stuff up. As for the weapon itself, the vanilla version of it is just to slow and limited. On purpose, most likely. That and the whole idea behind it is kinda... I mean, we're basically using a slingshot to toss around a NUKE!Combined with the vanilla game radius, and damage, a grenade works just as well, aside from the damage difference. That, and I'm hella more accurate tossing a grenade than the point and guess system of the fatman. HAHAHA I have NOT used one on Kellogg! That would be hilarious! Tho, I dunno if that room that he's in, is big enough to survive the experience, unscathed. That gives me an idea tho. We need sticky grenades! Slap one of those on his forehead then shoot it with my pistol :D Edit- Tho if you can afford to carry around the weight, the fatman is worth a few decent coin :) Edited January 9, 2020 by StormWolf01
StormWolf01
Ok, so I've kinda gotta admit, that captainoob is kind of .... and evil genius. Who really likes BIG bang, and lots of it.If you're not familiar with Wacky Weapons Workshop, it's very much like Any Mod Any Weapon, in that it will let you take different parts of weapons, and patch them all together. And turn it into a completely different custom weapon. On the playstation, I used to use it a lot to make railway assault rifles. Just cuz... spikes are really cool. Especially shooting fast, or in full auto! But this guy.... wow!!! He's had some ideas I NEVER woulda thought of! I am reeeeeeally liking this idea for a fun run! geala
I use several guns, depending on ammo availability. I run a modded Fallout 4 without much consideration for the lore. The world is much more primitive and loot is scarce. It is usually not possible to use automatic guns, except .38 and maybe .45, which go to my companion. Laser, plasma and gauss are mostly gone from the game, as I don't like energy weapons or hightech stuff. I also use a mod which destroys weapons and armor based on a randomized use and get damaged factor, where you lose all the shiny and expensive omods too. Because it only covers vanilla weapons I use only very few custom weapons in game which only go to the NPCs (except crossbows) for which the destruction mod does not work. That's said I carry on regular base one long gun, one sidearm and a melee weapon. It is normally not possible to carry a heavy weapon in addition because of carryweight restrictions. After the pipegun era (pipeguns are effective, 40 to 60 base damage depending on barrel length, normal human hp are at 150 to 200, level-independent), the rifle used by me is mostly the hunting rifle (135 base damage), best "damage to ammo-relation" and good optics or the combat rifle in case I have one plus enough ammo (combat rifle in my game is 5.56, 90 base damage). Combat rifles are rare in the world, as only gunners have access to it. Sometimes I have to use a crossbow (sad life then), at the beginning or if not enough ammo is present. The assault rifle is .308 in my game (130 base damage), weighting over 50 lbs (or what the unit is), too heavy for carrying; only supermutants have it, if I get one it goes to settlers. No way to use the 7,62 (90 base damage), there is never enough ammo. My sidearm is usually the double-barrel shotgun with pistol grip and sawed-off barrels. StormWolf01
heyas geala!Congrats! You're the first person to mention arming the companions! That's actually pretty interesting how your spawn list is set up to work. I wouldn't have thought to run a system like that. I can see how it would make things a real challenge. But a 50 pound rifle is just insane! From an IRL standpoint, I can't even get my head around that. geala
The assault rifle is in the opinion of most of us (?) a terrible design, looking monstrously massiv (PA gun?) and massively like a water-cooled Maxim machinegun design. The German variation of this gun (MG 08) weighted between 23 and 37 kg or 50 to 80 lbs. I needed a special weapon for the supermutants, who are terrible foes already because of BLD/Supermutant Redux, and I needed a reason why normal humans wouldn't carry one of these weapons, so I made the assault rifle much heavier. An automatic version with top barrel and drum magazine I recently looted weights 63 lbs. My carry capacity in game is 125, so it sits idly in my Red Wave boat's inventory. Gunners have the M249 machinegun instead (and combat rifles and 7,62 handmade rifles) which just weights 15 to 25 in my game (about a bit under 7 kg/ 15 lbs empty in reality). Gunners don't move around through my Commonwealth. But when I see a supermutant patrol of 6 to 12 green guys, some armed with miniguns (60 damage) and assault rifles (130 damage), I run, not for cover but away (my health is 190 and I often don't have much armor ready). The only more or less safe way to fight them is at your settlement (once it got some good turrets) or with artillery.

I think you're correct in the design origins: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/e0/a3/73/e0a37384978d5a08cc83a13e2957eeb2.jpg I much prefer the handmade rifle myself in terms of "assault rifle". My only gripe is the ammo is only obtainable through Nuka World vendors... One of my favorite weapons is the 10mm SMG from the mod https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/22223 And then the factor weapon from mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/32908, but it's a bit overpowered. As far as vanilla weapons. The Gatling Laser is great. Especially with the mod to fix the ammo so you can reload it whenever you want without losing the core. I use it a lot and it feels really good mowing s*** down with this thing. I also like the Gauss rifle, but it's a bit clunky in design. The minigun is very underpowered unless you get one with explosive legendary mod.I've recently been using a radiated Gamma Gun. Now that one is just nuts. With the auto setting and right perks you deal 1200 radiation damage per VATs hit. So you can down most human enemies including legendaries in 1 hit. I don't like the plasma rifle as it has trouble shooting over cover or through obstacles. It's projectile is very large and therefore it's not as good a weapon as in other installments. Although the flamer attachment is really strong. Edited January 13, 2020 by AeonsLegend
geala
You could easily use mods which gave 7,62 mm guns and rounds to the vendors in the Commonwealth or edit it yourself with a bit of effort. Much easier than always making the journey to Nuka World, at least if you're playing Survival (like me) without normal fast traveling.

And not using fast travel will not allow me to enjoy this game. I'm way to impatient to just walk everywhere, although nowadays I do force myself to take shorter trips on foot whenever necessary. The thing is that this game requires you to travel all over the damn place and I don't care for seeing the same area 100 times. It will just make me stop playing the game. It's bad game design that you can't play the game in "pockets" but just are asked to go all over the place by quest givers.
StormWolf01
If I miss something that I intended to write back about, I'm sorry. You two had a really good conversation going there.I also agree, the new assault rifles look terrible, and the whole water cooling thing, they shouldn't have gone with. Some of the assault rifles from the other fallout games definitely had more of a visual appeal. And...! For something that was supposed to be able to support a high rate of fire, their triggers are mighty slow in vanilla.About the ONLY thing I like about the assault rifles is their ammo capacity, and the look of the receivers. Everything else can go. Including those FUGLY silencers! Now granted tho, I don't think they'd look quite so bad as a hard mount for a turret. Wow. I'm kinda glad that most of the vanilla weapons don't weigh that much. But then again, I'm putting off trying out a pistol mod where the pistol weighs 38 pounds! (Can we say I wouldn't be able to hold that thing on target for long?) But I'm NOT judging there. I mean we all have our own tweaks and such, to make the game more to how each of us wants our gameplay to be :) The gatling gun is another that they definitely coulda done different. That huge ammo cannister, that pretty much has nothing to do with the reload, the too long wait for it to spin up (which it does without a power source?) and the downright...well...CRAPtastic vanilla damage really doesn't make it worth much other than for stagger.Looks kinda cool on the PA guys, but yeah. have not ever played in survival mode. It doesn't appeal to me. I threw a fit, when we tried 76 for the first time, and that whole "You're hungry and need to eat" thing kicked in, so yeah... not my cup of tea. That and yeah... no fast travel? Not for me.I'd be more agreeable to walking more, if there was more to kill. I mean, I GET it that the world has been bombed to hell, but walking through a bunch of vast emptiness is kinda boring. Also, anybody who wants to argue realism with me, about the having to eat thing... I'm game. But if I wanted realism, I wouldn't be PLAYING a video game. I'd be out playing paintball. (assuming of course that I could afford to!)
