WinterRanger97
Can't believe I didn't think to try that. Still no luck, I'm afraid, but that pretty much proves that this is purely a Vortex issue. Though, I cannot, for the life of me, think what if might be. I've checked pretty much every setting and window I could and have found NOTHING to indicate what the problem is. I'm at the point where I might just uninstall Vortex and see if that fixes the issue. HadToRegister
The problem is, that the Steam Overlay works for other people. So it can't just be a Vortex issue. There's no reason for it not working. For SETTINGS I haveCustom Window Title bar - OFFEnable Desktop Notifications - ONHide Top Level Category - ONEnable Advanced Mode - ONEnable Profile Management - ONEnable GPU Acceleration - ONDeploy Mods when enabled - ONEnable Mods when installed - OFF Run FNIS on Deployment event - OFFStarter - ONToDo List - OFFNexus MOd Account Banner - OFFRecently Managed - OFFAnnouncements - OFFNews - OFFLatest Mods - OFFChangelog - ONIssues - ONARC Support - ONQBMS Support - ON Also, you don't need to uninstall Vortex to fix the issue, because then your Mods won't work
HadToRegister
Also, if you're on Windows 10, have you tried REBOOTING your Computer.I've noticed that sometimes, random things will stop working in Windows 10 and will only work after a reboot.Like sometimes, my Start Button won't bring up the Windows Start Menu, and the Search stops working. Also, sometimes the search bar in each Explorer Window I have open will disappear, other things such as not being able to open the Sound Properties etc. and other seemingly mundane things. WinterRanger97
I was more thinking of doing a re-install of Vortex, and seeing if something got fudged during the install process. Copied your settings to a T, still no dice. Furthermore, I just did my weekly reboot last night. Didn't fix anything. On a hunch, I went looking and couldn't find any permissions issues either. No weirdly marked "Read Only" files or firewall issues. Edited December 31, 2019 by rjtrains

You can install Vortex right over the top of itself Do you use Windows Defender? If so, turn off "Controlled Folder Access"
WinterRanger97
I turned CFA off when I reinstalled Win 10. That setting has been nothing but problems for me in the past. Edited December 31, 2019 by rjtrains
WinterRanger97
I'm going to go ahead and bump this topic. The issue hasn't gone away, nor have I been able to fix it, even after re-installing Vortex. If anyone has any more advice, I'd appreciate it. It's steam. 2 of the links there, say that with fallout 4 it does not like anything that causes another overlay to the screen. They mention Fraps, but if you have any other kind of screen capture utility running, you might try disabling that while you're trying to play too.the other link says to try a different version of steam, the beta. Edit- this is what I used as my search parameter in yahoo, if those don't help. steam overlay doesn't work with fallout 4 Edited January 6, 2020 by StormWolf01
WinterRanger97
Except the Steam Overlay DOES work with Fallout 4. I can boot Fallout 4 from Steam and be able to play the game and access the Overlay with zero issues. It is only, and I can't stress this enough, ONLY when I launch through Vortex that the overlay does not work. Furthermore, I tested if the Steam beta might be the issue, since I'm opted into it. Changing to the stable release of Steam had no effect. Thank you for the links, and trying to help, but this seems to be a Vortex exclusive issue. HadToRegister
Thank you for the links, and trying to help, but this seems to be a Vortex exclusive issue. How can it be a Vortex Exclusive issue if the Steam Overlay works for some and not others? It has to be system specific, otherwise it would n't for EVERYBODY using Vortex. Do you have some type of utility installed with your Graphic Card, a Fan Speed Monitor etc, overclocking utility? Those are notorious for preventing the Steam Overlay from showing.
