Hi all im about ready to cry tbh. My game worked fine yesterday. I udated the F4se and some mods as I had not played in a while. Then in the middle of playing my game CTD and now it wont even get passed the main tital screen before it will CTD. Ive deleted everything and started again. Brand new install worked apart from a screen res of 800 by 600 that it wont let me change. So added new mods and its still doing it . Ive spent 11 hours today trying to fix this damn game and Ive gotten nowhere. If anything its worse now then before I started. I dont know what to do to get my game working.

I have no games saves so its not that, thats doing it. Thats one thing I do know for sure.

Can anyone please help me.

Get rid of the ini files in the Documents/My Games/Fallout4 folder. If the ini files from the earlier game were still there, that's where the game will go to see what needs to be loaded and those files contain information from things that are no longer in the game.

To change your screen resolution, open the game with the Fallout4Launcher.exe, change the settings and close again and then launch the game with whatever other launcher you use.

Are you using a mod manager? Are there mods installed on the game you try to start? Did you change location for the installation of the game? Are you sure and certain you are using the right F4SE for the version of the game you run? Does the game start without crashing with the regular exe?

Yeah im running Vortex bud. Yes the mods are on the game I try and start. The game worked when I did a new install yesterday without mods. Im using that latest verion of the game and I got the latest virsion of F4SE so I'm guessing its the right one.

Im going to try and fresh install of the game today and try and get the res set up how that should be. Then i'm going to start doing the mods 1 at a time and see what is braking my game. Many hours work but its the only way I can see of fixing my game.

Be sure and clean out all the stuff in your My Games\Fallout 4 folder, and also the stuff in your C:\Users\YouUserName\AppData\Local\Fallout 4. The uninstaller for the game does not clean up after itself very well. It also doesn't clean out your mods from the game install folder either.

Right Ive got the game running now and at 1920 x 1080 again. Now I need to get my mods sorted. Just to make sure, What is the right virsion of F4SO I should be using? Im running the latest version on the game.

Thanks for all the awesome help so far.

Heyas Pitstop. Does this happen with all of your characters? Does it happen when you try to manually load from a different save?

If this is only happening, when you are choosing "Continue" it might be a possibility that the save that is trying to be loaded might be corrupt.

Try using a save from a couple of saves previous to that, and see if those still work.
