Aranis777
Vortex freezes entirely every time it should call a file dialogue. (I.e. when setting search folders in settings or trying to add a game manually). The button shows as clicked, but nothing else happens and Vortex itself can’t be used anymore. It isn’t shown as “not responding” in task manager though. Also, fresh install since I haven’t been able to use it at all because of that issue. (Couldn’t send a bug report because of some issue related to captchas or something.)
diggtrap
Having the same issue. Not sure why its happening since I used it in the past. The most interesting thing is that it doesn't even show any CPU process from it on the Task Manager.
Pickysaurus
Sounds like you might have something messaging with a dependency Vortex uses. Have you installed anything else between then and now? Have you tried reinstalling the latest version?

The most interesting thing is that it doesn't even show any CPU process from it on the Task Manager. Strange, I’m having the opposite case, with 3 different Vortex processes. Edit : misread. Gotta get some sleep. Yeah, same case then. Sounds like you might have something messaging with a dependency Vortex uses. Have you installed anything else between then and now? Have you tried reinstalling the latest version? Latest Vortex update was released on Dec 9 so it was the latest version. As for the other question, nope. Besides, it happened right from the very first time I launched Vortex.
HadToRegister
Anybody in this thread using Windows Defender?Try turning off "Controlled Folder Access", and also make sure you're not running Vortex as an admin.
Aranis777
Just double checked to be sure but I had that turned off to begin with so it seems that the issue isn’t here either. Same for Admin mode, the app gives a warning about that anyway. (Because, yes, I tried. Unsurprisingly.)
PersonalProxy
Vortex 1.1.5Windows 10 1903Vortex installed on C:\Games, Downloads, Mods on drive G:\UAC EnabledControlled Folder Access DisabledNot running as Admin (the warning message is very clear, if you even attempt it)Same issue, anything that triggers an explorer windows (manually selecting game folder, manually adding game install path, etc) causes a hard freeze. No CPU activity in Task Manager. Left the PC just to see if it would process for up to 45 minutes with no change.Fresh installation of Windows 10 and fresh installation of Vortex. Narnia12
Take a stab at killing "Controlled Folder Access", and furthermore ensure you're not running Vortex as an administrator.mybkexperience
diggtrap
Bumping the thread for an update. Thought it would've been an Antivirus issue, so I disabled it and Vortex still freezes. Thought maybe it was a firewall problem so I added Vortex to the allowed list, it still freezes. Did a full reinstall of it (including deleting files from %appdata%), Vortex still freezes. I don't know if its a small issue or not, since there's almost no replies for a problem that is rendering the software unusable. I can't send a bug report because it gives me an error that isn't even formatted properly.
Aranis777
Thanks to PersonalProxy, I fixed the issue. Apparently, it was caused by OldNewExplorer. So if you are using a third-party software that injects into Windows Explorer, that might be the culprit. (I first tried disabling QTTabBar and Ultra UX Theme Patcher too, but these two aren’t causing any problem here.)
