The Crows

Ok, so warning right here and right now. This post Does contain spoilers, and player generated conspiracy theory. You have been warned. If this bothers you, stop reading right here.

Ok, so I was watching a youtube vid that was in regards to the institute.

One of the theories of the video was that the institute has synthetically engineered more than just humans and gorillas.

The theory was using some facts about a post in one of the institute terminals about the creation of "Creatures of the sky and earth" (Extremely loosely paraphrased due to my crap memory, and the fact that I watched this before I went to bed!)

Another thing in the video that was posted to support the theory was that the institute has an area with a bunch of monitors that shows the recordings from a bird's-eye view.

The theory was that quite a few of the birds there around the commonwealth, are actually spy cam synths.

Now, what I find interesting, is that I make TONS of new characters all the freaking time. There are at least FOUR crows placed around the area, outside the entrance of Vault 111. And we all know, that Father was wanting to see what would happen with his "parent" upon the release from the vault.

Your thoughts?

Interesting theory. And most certainly within the capabilities of the Institute..... (and makes me feel better about shooting the little buggers when I see them as well, its fun to watch them blow up in a spray of blood.) I never noticed them around the vault entrance.... Now I am going to have to start looking for them when I come out.....

It actually kinda fits in with the whole "boogy man" representation that they've given the institute. As all throughout history crows have been thought of as the eyes and ears for witches, demons, etc, and have been portrayed as such as in some movies and novels. In the Wheel of Time series, they actively made an effort to kill each and every crow they came across, for that very reason.

You have to stay quiet, when you exit the vault, or they won't land. There's two that land on the ground between the wood crates and the wood barricades. There's also two that land in the trees, over in the direction of the fence gate.

LOL I pop one of them every time I see them! :D If you shoot them from a tree, you do get the enjoyable spray, but they just drop like a rock. Which, I've seen happen sometimes in real life (we used to shoot birds to keep them away from our cherry and pear trees out on the farm). Not very satisfactory but it's actually kinda realistic.

Not saying it can't be done. But the institute has no info on synth crows. Or even synth animals other than the project they were running with the gorilla's. You'd think this information would be readily available to the new Director as having crow spy synths would give you so much of an edge everywhere you go. So no, I don't think crow synths are a thing. They should be though. :)

You make some good points there Aeons.

Makes me wonder, I may have to look to see if there's any info about them in Xedit. I know that they aren't made as container/corpses. I wonder how hard it would be to make them as such and throw an ingredient in there. Along with...that thing that's on G3 synths when ya kill them. :D (Gawd it's too early, brain not working fully. Coffffffeeeeeeeeeeeee!) Component. That's what I was trying to think of.

Edit- Meh. They're not listed as NPC's. They're just scripted items. Couldn't find them as crow, but bird got a few results. Found under critters. Whereever critters is, LOL.

Some NPCs have mentioned "Institute crow things". Like: "I've seen McDonough talk to one of these Institute crow things, he's a synth!"

There is also that one model in Fallout4 - Meshes.ba2 which is called something among the lines of "synth crow", and it has glowing red eyes, but isn't actually used.

I suspect this is (mostly) cut content: They might have planned to do something with synth crows, but pretty much scrapped the idea. Potentially due to problems with making actual flying critters. Crows and seagulls are actually activators, not actors.

edit: oh, the crow-things are mentioned in the video

edit2: here's the synth crow mesh: https://imgur.com/a/fquO3c9
