Institute and Mutants

I really don't know too much about the lore of the land, previous to Fallout 4. I haven't played the earlier games, and have only watched a few vids in regards to it.

Maybe they tried, and the mutants were too powerful? They broke out, and made their escape?

I'm not entirely sure, but I'm kinda thinking that the SM's pre-date synths? If so, I can totally see SM's overpowering human guards.

Or maybe they thought that they could pull a "Jurassic Park" Where they thought that they could keep a small number of them out in the wild, and then everything went askew?

I'm sorry Zorkas, I'm afraid I dunno anything about them from the terminals

As far as I know lore wise the Super Mutants in the Commonwealth are called Institute Supermutants on the wiki and they are not the same as Super Mutants in other areas or other games. Although I do doubt the Institute created all of them that are inhabiting the Commonwealth.

What I think is that the institute replicated the super mutant transformation as an attempt to study and fight radiation. The lab didn't look like it could house the hundreds of super mutants that you find around the Commonwealth though and it seems strange that they would unleash them on the Commonwealth as well. There's no evidence to be found of Institute technology on the surface so this means that if they put them there they would have to have teleported them all there or used the maintenance tunnels to transport them. The first seems very unlikely. The second not so much, but still strange. Unless it was part of their study. And there's no info on any such thing inside the Institute.

This is a truth. When butthesda took over the franchise, there started getting to be different stories, for different areas/games. So the lore kinda gets broken up and splintered.

But at least it's not as bad as completely re-writing certain or large parts of the story, such as one particular company tends to do. *caugh* Disney/StarWars/MarvelStudios *caugh*

Beth is notorious for violating THEIR OWN canon....... and just sorta making stuff up as they go along. Like the 'levitation act' that banned levitation in Oblivion.... when they went to cities that were in their own worldspace... so, you couldn't just levitate over the walls, and be in the city. (my favorite form of 'fast travel' in Morrowind was a ring of levitation, with invisibility on it as well. Just call me "Scourge of the Cliffracers." :) )

Ahhhh yes. I really miss my old Daedric wings that had serious levitation magic in them. Don't miss those damned cliffracers one single bit tho. More annoying than anything else. And all over the place!

They were AWESOME for improving your archery skill. :D I would go LOOKING for them, just to get some target practice. :D

I generally played stealth-based character, with magic as well. Along with my dwarven crossbow, I rather enjoyed it. Later, when I was actually doing mods for Morrowind, I made myself my 'Van Helsing Crossbow"... Selective fire... Single shot, 3 round burst, or full auto. That was FUN.... I walked into the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary, and in the room where there were about a dozen of 'em, I put my cbow on full auto, swept the room once, and they were all dead. I SOOOOOOO enjoyed that. :D

I think that one is still on Morrowind Modding History somewhere. :) At least, I hope it is, as I don't seem to be able to find my copy any more. I suspect it is on one of the loose HDD's I have laying about.... But, that's likely an IDE drive, and I don't have anything to plug it into any more. :D
