stebbinsd
In the Fallout universe, do ghouls need food and water? The Fallout 4 side quests "Kid in a Fridge" and "Long Time Coming" would have you believe that no, they don't need water. But today, in my latest youtube video, I hope to put that controversy to rest. I hope you all enjoy it.
Ethreon
They do. F4 is just wrong and it's best to consider this quest a joke.
stebbinsd
They do. F4 is just wrong and it's best to consider this quest a joke. You clearly didn't see the video at all. Otherwise you'd know that FO2 is just as guilty of this plothole as FO4 is. StormWolf01
It's an interesting topic. And I'm gonna chalk this one up to bad writing on the part of the Dev's.Why?Because there are tons, upon tons, upon TONS, of instances that could support EITHER side of the debate. Clearly, we have instances where we see both forms of ghouls eating. We have instances of regular ghouls drinking. But, do they require it? Or is it just an instinctual driven pleasure? Do they do it, just because they enjoy the taste? Or in the case of ferals, do they do it just completely out of habit? On the flipside of this, if they don't require sustenance, Why haven't their digestive organs rotted away? Especially in lieu of the fact that they can heal via radiation? We have instances where we have a pack or more of ferals that have been locked up, and sealed away. There would not be a pack of them, if they were forced to eat, and cannibalize each other. Nor do we see any of them damaged, or crippled in some way, from trying to survive their packmates assaulting them to eat to survive. In one of the DLC's We have an instance where a regular ghoul has been surviving among a pack of ferals, locked up in vault. And they make no intention to attack her. <--- DLC Spoiler Alert there! But yet, with ferals, they have an amazingly limited amount of idle animations. Wander, look about, and feed. If they don't need to eat, why is that thrown in when they're so lacking on animations? I'm just gonna finish up by saying that in MY opinion, there is no cannon here. There's just entirely too much contradiction. Edited February 5, 2020 by StormWolf01
LucidLady
I'm of the opinion that hey don't NEED to eat, they simply do it for pleasure/curiosity. Even children will eat weird things purely out of curiosity - like coins. Not because they're actually hungry. And humans don't NEED to smoke cigarettes, but they do for pleasure. I imagine the same logic applies to ghouls, feral and nonferal.

Kodiak412
I have the Slog with nothing but ghoul settlers and they need food and water or they become unhappy and cranky. :)
AeonsLegend
If the digestive system works as normal then they need to eat. If it doesn't work then they don't need to eat. But then eating would make them walk around with undigested food. The guys at the slog seem to eat so I'm thinking they do need food. Perhaps just not as much as normal humans do. ImmortalAbsol
Ghouls get a regenerative effect from radiation. So they can survive on food and water just like us, but say, if they were in a fridge recieving rads they would be feeling and suffering the effects of dehydration and starvation but still healing at a rate that does not allow them to die.I wouldn't be surprised if ghouls unlucky enough to be suffering this situation have the mental torture it causes turn them feral quicker.
