Need to change mod install folder

Recommended Posts

I having been trying to mod XCOM 2 WOTC, but because it is an expansion the mod list is in a weird place that is different from vanilla XCOM 2. I saw there used to be an option for selecting the mod install folder in the setting menu but now i dont see it for any of my games.

this should be a really simple issue, i just need to tell Vortex to install the mods in a different folder. I could do it manually but that means doing it manually every time i add a mod.... kinda what mod managers were made for.

If you can provide a link to the mod and explain how it should[/b] install and how it's different from the normal method we might be able to advise you.

Basically i need to find out how to change the automatically found path :

E:\Steam\steamapps\common\XCOM 2\XComGame\Mods

into :

E:\Steam\steamapps\common\XCOM 2\XCom2-WarOfTheChosen\XComGame\mods

i see the options for the mod staging folder and the download folder but missing the install folder path.

I know that is one of my issues, i still need to trouble shoot to see if doing that would fix the overall issue of mods not taking affect despite seeing them in the XCOM2 launcher.

I the nexus needs to update to support WOTC separate from vanilla XCOM2.

Could you also link the mod you're trying to download?

Looking at the code, Vortex is currently deploying files to "XCOM 2\XComGame\Mods" by default. You may be able to make Vortex deploy the mods to a different folder but it would require repacking the archive and setting the mod type.

Is there a way to identify if a mod needs to go in the DLC folder verses the default folder?

Created an issue on GitHub to track this https://github.com/Nexus-Mods/Vortex/issues/6304

from what i can tell the functionality was removed at some point to be able to say where to place installed mods. I remember NMM had it when i used it a few years ago. For me i would be happy if all mods when into the folder i tell it. Realistically the Nexus needs to add another page for WOTC because i think there is almost no compatibility between the two.

I also found that even when put the mods in manually it still doesn't work. They have the same problem of i can see them in the game(Firaxis) launcher and i have them enabled there but they don't take effect in game. This is one example of a mods i tried to enable: https://www.nexusmods.com/xcom2/mods/217
