Why do I still have to install my own Mods?

Vortex won't do it. I have to physically move the mods into the proper folder myself because Vortex is so incompetent. Dude, you know where the game folders are. I shouldn't have to move anything around to get this to work. But it won't install the mods and keeps giving me these useless error messages about the mod folder not being in the same folder as the game... whatever that means. Then when I try to fix it. it gives the most incomprehensable instructions written by the best monkeys Nexus could find on how to "fix it."

You fix it!

I've installed several hundred mods using vortex.

I do it in one of two ways

1) I click the vortex link in a mod page.

that results in the mod being downloaded to vortex and once I've clicked a few vortex prompts and sometimes run FNIS after or resolves a load order issue, it just works

2) for mods I downlaod from other sites, I use the "Install from File" option in the vortex mod panel.

same basic deal... I choose the .7z (or whatever) file, and with a few prompts and a potential run of FNIS and or load order adjustment/specification, and it just works.

Well, thanks for letting us know that you set up Vortex completely wrong, which is exactly what your problem is.

If Vortex says that "The Mod Folder cannot be inside the Game Folder", there's not a lot of room for interpretation there.

It means that the Mod Staging Folder that vortex uses to install the Mods CANNOT BE INSIDE THE GAME FOLDER, otherwise Vortex won't work, but it sounds like you ignored that and put it there anyway, which is why you have to move the mods by hand, because you put the mod staging folder where it isn't supposed to go, and you've set Vortex so it can't work properly because of that.

Change the location of the Mod Staging folder to somewhere OUTSIDE of the Steam Folder.

There's the Knowledge Base and tutorial videos built into Vortex that tell you that.

Sorry, but you've set Vortex up incorrectly.

that's an astonishing rant that doesn't show you in good light, if i'm honest.

you could do worse than look for gophergaming on youtube and follow his latest series of vlogs about how to set up and use vortex.

whatever guide you followed (if you followed anything) should be discarded.

No, actually they were never in the Steam folder. Thank for asking if I did or not... wait, you didn't. True, I tried it. Just to see if it would work, but as you said, it gets an error message. It wasn't installing in my test folders, or an unique folder meant for Vortex. Or anywhere. It just won't install!

Let me give you some advise from one customer service rep to another. Ask probing questions! Assume nothing. Because you don't know what I did or didn't do. You don't know how old I am. You don't know if this is my first experience with modding or I've done it my whole life. You don't know if I'm paying for your platform. Which, after your attitude, I think I'll keep my money.

You don't even know where my games are! You don't know if I have Steam. Or GoG. If you do, you have some serious privacy problems.

No one who has been trying to help you is a paid rep, their members like you who give up their time to help others, I suggest you adjust your attitude or seek assistance somewhere else.

Okay fair enough. How do I get it from where I have it which is D:\games\Mods (note, it's not in the steam folder) to actually installing? Keep in mind, everything is claiming it's been installed. It just won't work unless I manually install it the old fashioned way.

Do you have HARDLINK Deployment activated (Like in the screenshot I posted), and are you DEPLOYING the Mods after you install them?

Go into SETTINGS----------->INTERFACE and turn the following switches ON

Deploy Mods When Enabled - turn this ON

Enable Mods When Deployed - turn this ON.

As far as asking probing questions, it's kind of hard to do that when you didn't give much detail to your problem, which forced me to GUESS what your problem is.
You need to describe the problem in detail.
