billyro
If the person knew the player was dragonborn, then perhaps someone who thinks the player is a fake? Or perhaps they want to proclaim themself dragonborn?
AnimeOtaku102
The Arbitrary AI Package Man sent them. I made a number of characters who don't head straight to Riverwood after escaping Helgen and just go about killing bandits, finding Word Walls, or clearing out dungeons, but every single time I get Dark Brotherhood assassins sent after me after some point. So either it's a level-triggered event or some bandit/dragon priest/vampire/bear took exception to me murdering them (because sometimes I just love sneak attacking people) and posthumously took a contract out on me. Or maybe it's the same weirdo who wastes time and money to contract the DB to assassinate insane beggars, isolated lumberjacks, and friendly meat vendors

jhncanson
Its not only one single npc that has ordered the assassins to kill you.. to think of it.. any npc that you piss off.. will pay the assassins to have you killed. Try it yourself.
Deleted3507349User
I'm almost positive that the generic assassin that attacks you with the anonymous writ is sent by Mavin Black-Briar. It's well-known that she has eyes and ears everywhere in Skyrim and beyond, plus she has great influence with both the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood. There's also some circumstantial evidence if you break into Black-Briar Manor in Riften and take a look around.
Nintii
rule out the Thalmor, they wouldn't use Dark Brotherhood because they send their own assasians. Maven.. maybe.. Heres something I thought of, have you started the civil war when these assasians attacks? I was thinking maybe its the opposing faction. Actually I wouldn't rule out the Thalmor and the Dark brotherhood holding hands remember ... If they could weaken the empire at any point they would, in your one mission as the dragonborn you infiltrtate theThalmor embassy and during that mission you discover ... The Thalmor would do anything to hurt the Empire. But as to who is sending the Dark Brotherhood after you all the time is a mystery to me.I've just destroyed the Dark Brotherhood in one of the quests ... let's see if there's a glitch and they stillcome after me ... you never know right !? What concerns me is that I'm out in the middle of nowhere and all of a sudden I see a message that says"some Orc stronghold has just put a 5 gold bountyagainst my name".What have I done ? Unfortunately I had to edit my post here as it contained spoilers ... closed of course but spoilers neverthelessand so only seeing the "No spoilers" sign afterwards ... I've done what I can to rectify the situation.Apologies. Edited January 7, 2013 by Nintii
calfurius
It's most likely that some bandit who was lucky enough to be away from the hideout (you know like caves, forts, etc) got pissed at you for killing his comrades. I mean think about it, there's a good chance that one of the bandits decided to go out for a walk or decided to mug somebody by himself. He comes back to the cave, finds his crew slaughtered, and decides to track down the person who did this and make them pay. He of course knows he can't beat you in a fair fight, so he hires up assassins to kill you. That's what I believe anyways.
