Download speed seems to be capped at less than a MB when downloading large files.

VPN did not

Can't even get a solid download rate wile using manual download. This is crappy, should have never bought premium, what a joke.

Try using a VPN

Also, did you change your download server to a premium one once you bought Premium?

Go to your Nexus Account Page by Clicking NEXUS MODS ^ up at the top menu on this forum

Click on your profile picture, and select SITE PREFERENCES from the Drop-Down, the PREFERENCES tab---------->PREMIUM MEMBER PREFERENCES---------->PREFERRED DOWNLOAD LOCATION

VPN did not help, DL rate stayed around the same. Feel like it isn't a problem with my ISP or internet; I feel it is a problem imposed from either the host server's end, or along the way to my pc. Either way it is still shitty. Not much I can think of doing. Everything else, including steam downloads at a consistent 10 to 20MB solid. And yes, I am sure I ma not downloading anything else while downloading mods. Manually installing mods does not help, it is a problem that is not on my end for sure.

Oh, did you log out of vortex and the nexus, then log back in?

Because I guess that stuff doesn't take full effect until a full logout and log back in, from both Vortex and the Nexus

Does not seem like there is a fix. Pathetic, I looked more into it and it seems that this has been a problem ever since the switch to Vortex. Seems like the admins and Devs will not do anything to actually fix anyone's problems. I looked at 10+ posts of people telling them that they were having download speeds that crawl in the subpar 500kb/s when downloading mods bigger than 1gb (Keep in mind all of these people had premium and followed all the instructions that the admins told them to do, like me.) it is not a problem with the mods themselves, or our internet, it is just that Vortex and their host server either decided to be blissfully ignorant on the problem or they know the problem exists but they refuse to fix it because god knows why. Some of the forum posts I am talking about are years old. Hard to believe that I have no problems downloading anything from anywhere until I try downloading mods from the NMM website. What the hell happened to NMM. Used to be such a great platform but now it is a shell of what it used to be because of a lack of caring from Devs.

Yeah, I have tried that multiple times, and I would do it again if it were not that I was downloading a mod and it is finally at 1gb out of 3gb 2 hours later. If it cancels then I am just going to uninstall Vortex and move to the steam workshop, which I never f*#@en thought I would say that.

Vortex itself never limits the download speed, there is no functionality in it for that.

Usually when people report slow downloads, the reason is that they are free users who get routed to a CDN server that is being overloaded, a VPN or - if premium - switching the server has always helped in every such case I've looked at.

When you change servers in preferences this only affects new downloads you start, you can't start a DL, change server, resume and expect it to now suddenly use the new server.

But if you changed the server in preferences, started a new download and it's still slow, with any server you test, this is definitively a problem on your end, I can't think of any reason why all our servers would be slow at the same time.

Another thing that may be worth mentioning but probably not: If you only recently got premium it may take a bit of time (maybe an hour or so but I have no definit value) before that actually takes effect, but I assume that since you're switching servers in preferences you're already recognized as premium.

Thanks for the response, I only have this problem on files that are over 1gb. Any file that is small, for example something that is around 300MB, downloads at a rate much larger, hitting up to upper 20's in MB/s. Not sure what is causing it to slow down so much when downloading files that are bigger. I tried manually downloading it and it did not seem to help much. In a last ditch effort I signed out once more on both the NMM website and Vortex; and I now get about 500KB/s faster; hitting about 1.3 to 1.7MB at peaks but then dropping to around 700KB/s at lows. I have not switched my server yet as I would like to wait for the mod to finish downloading, approx. 40 minutes from now. I will try switching the server once more after this mod is downloaded and installed. I'll keep you posted, thanks.

Ok, so the site will assign different servers depending on file size, meaning that small files (I think the limit is 500MB?) are served by different servers than large files.

If you say this only affects large files this is almost definitively down to the server being over capacity. I'm willing to bet that changing the server will help.

I tried a different server and every time the speed was around the same. The best speeds seem to either be on the Chicago or Miami server, at an average of around 900KB/s; worst being the Los Angeles server averaging around 500KB/s. Miami ran at about 800ish dropping down to around 400KB/s. So all and all changing servers only got me around 500KB/s extra which still seems off tbh. Not quite sure why only NMM is downloading so painstaking slow, even using manual download. Took me around 7 hours to install around 6GB of mods, which makes this whole modding process even more annoying.

Yeah, this is weird. It's not uncommon for servers to be at capacity during prime time and unfortunately if you use the CDN, to my knowledge, you simply get assigned the server closest to your physical location, which may not be the one that can push the files the fastest.

This is the reason for most "my downloads are slow" reports you see, and it affects any mod manager trying to dl from nexusmods at those times, Vortex is simply the one with the most users (by far) so you see the most reports about it.

(Also: please consider we have millions of users downloading ~100000 files per hour so even if you can find a bunch of reports of slow downloads, that doesn't necessarily mean the servers are doing bad, any kind of congestion will immediately affect a lot of users)

But your case is weird that it happens across multiple premium servers but not on small files, that is not normal. Have you only tried US servers? Could you try something in an area where the locals are currently at work or something? ;)
