Vortex not working on new computer

I have a brand new gaming win 10 64 laptop and I was hoping to download all of the Fallout 4 mods I had installed on my old computer.

Also, I wanted to download a mod for Enderal.

Nothing is working the way it did previously. I have selected Enderal as a game to manage, but when I try to click on it to install a mod that I downloaded, nothing happens. Although Enderal shows as a managed game, I can't do anything with it. Clicking on the game picture does nothing.

As for Fallout 4, before I can install anything, it wants a file that I easily installed from Nexus via Vortex previously, but will not install now. It wants me to manually install it and honestly I have no idea how to do that.

It seems as though Vortex just isn't working properly on this computer and I can't figure out why. It was dead easy to manage my games before, but now I'm not able to do anything at all.

Well you don't actually tell us anything that would let us help you.

Start here:

https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/7332636-how-to-post-request-support-for-vortex/

Specifically, we need to know what version Vortex, how much memory, what disk drives, what type of drives are they, what anti-virus,

and install paths for Vortex, Downloads, and Mod Staging Directory. And full path to game.

What is this file you say Fallout 4 wants? How did you install Enderal? Dis you follow the install instructions for Enderal? It is not really a game; just a super mod with requirements.

And anything else that comes to mind.

The version of Vortex is the latest one from this site. I downloaded it today.

This computer has a 1 TB hard drive, so tons of memory.

I don't really know what you mean by type of disk drives. This is a 15" Razer Blade gaming computer,. If you could be more specific I could post that information.

I'm just using Windows Defender.

The games are in the usual location for Steam Games, steamapps/common. The default location, in other words.

I've been playing both Enderal and Fallout 4 for months using mods downloaded from Vortex on my old computer, so I'm not a complete noob. On this computer I did exactly the same thing; I downloaded Vortex. and installed it to its default location.

Now, after uninstalling and reinstalling Vortex, can manage Enderal just fine. However, Vortex can't even see Fallout 4 at all; not on my computer, not in the list of games Vortex can manage, and if I search for it manually, Vortex only comes up with Fallout 4 VR.

Asking about drive types to see if an SSD was in the mix. NTFS works fine - not sure about other formats.

So you have one big C: drive with everything on it.

When you say Steam standard location - I hope it is not under Program Files.

I would still like to know the paths you specified for Vortex, Vortex Downloads, and Mod Staging Directory. Suspecting some problem with permissions.

Did you tell Vortex what drives / directories to search for games? What executable is in the Fallout 4 game directory?

Thanks for the responses. I think Defender might have been the issue, although I I was pretty sure I'd given permission for Vortex to make changes on the computer.

I had specified the correct path for the games, and any program I download goes straight to Programs/86.

I uninstalled Vortex again, reinstalled it, and things seem to be normal. Part of this was operator error (naturally). I have no idea why or how, but somehow Fallout 4 had become unchecked in Vortex's list of games, which I didn't even know was a thing. I found this when I started looking in all of the different parts of Vortex I've never looked at before.

Now I can get back to compulsive settlement building.

Cheers.
