My own suspicion: He installed SKSE incorrectly.

Specifically - the new script files have to wind up in Data/Scripts.

the video literally just said extract from 7 zip open it up and drag and drop everything to local files. So I'm confused

Drag and Drop to LOCAL FILES???????

No, you should be dragging and dropping to Steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\

What's the link to this Video?

Do you have a mod / more mods installed that require skse64 ?
Are you sure that mod / all those mods is / are updated to the latest version ?

Because from what I see one or more mods require skse64 for an older version of Skyrim Special Edition

Cheers

that may be it. Like I have a fat list of mods in Nexus mod manager and a couple of them have a ! hat says they need to be updated. How do I do that though? do I just reinstall them or what?

Basically, yes.

Just go to the mod page and read the description page and / or stickies. Bound to be some info in there.

If not : reinstalling the mod with a newer version also works.

Careful : some mods have .ini files that you may have altered if recommended by the mod author.

Might want to copy said .ini file because changes to it will be lost when updating the mod.

Hope this helps

Vortex can install SKSE for you... it's probably better if you let it.

Drop the file for SKSE into the bottom of your mods tab and Vortex will do the rest.

As someone who is having a similar problem, I have a question. Do I simply drop the ENTIRE file, does it need to be unzipped first or just straight in?

the answers to your question are on the actual page where you download skse from and in dozens of videos on you tube. take a look you'll be amazed at what you find.
