Does Vortex Support Mod Download Pre-Launch?

I have 2 files uploaded but not yet published. I was wanting to test them through Vortex to ensure there were not issues before publishing, but when I attempt to download I get this message:

ServiceMessage: Mod not available 29866
{URL: htpps:/api.nexusmods.com/vl/games/{gameplay}/modld/files/{fileld}

Does anyone know if Vortex disallows downloading prior to publishing of a mod?

Thanks.

I would expect Nexusmods to have the same rules for manual downloads as for mod manager downloads.

Can you manually download those unpublished mods?

Note: Vortex does not "Download" mods. Whatever program you told Windows would handle download file type gets them. They are "pushed" out by the server.

I started a manual download when I encountered the problem with Vortex to check to see if I got the same problem. It started the download seemingly wo an issue but I chose not to complete it (its a big file). I wanted to check it with Vortex.

For the OP's benefit, not contradicting you or anything...

To be clear, Nexus is the one that downloads the mod to the player's computer. If the "Vortex" button is used to initiate the download/installation at Nexus, it automatically links to Vortex, downloads the module, and begins the installation processing. (once the download is complete...for a large mod this download can take some time, so don't get impatient)

If you update a mod through Vortex (has the little orange cloud symbol with a plus sign in it, in the Version column of the mods tab) , then Vortex initiates a file transfer from Nexus, downloads the updated module, and initiates installation of said mod.

If you download a mod manually, then you need to use the Vortex "install from File" button, navigate to wherever the mod has been downloaded to, and Vortex will then begin installing said mod.

Even easier, just download the mod directly to the Vortex download\{game} folder for that game, and Vortex will automatically detect it

So, does anyone have direct experience with my issue or knows if the Vortex button download does not work pre-publish? A good many users use this method for getting mods, and they don't necessarily want to or will do a manual download, so I want to know if there is a problem with my mod downloading using Votex button, or if this is not an option pre-publication?

I still contend that is a Nexusmods question - not a Vortex question. It would work the same if Vortex or MO 2 - or NMM - were registered for that file type.

The Download button might say Vortex - but that does not control which application gets it.

Nexusmods does have a technical assistance forum that might give you a better answer.

We also have pretty proactive admins who might drop in and steer you to the right place.

Mods that are hidden, unpublished or in moderation will not allow you to download files. Currently the API doesn't really know/care if you're the author in that regard.

What you can do is start a manual download to get a DL link and in the Downloads tab click the "Drop zone" at the bottom and paste that link. This would "simulate" Vortex having downloaded it via the button on the site.

Thanks, that is what I was hoping for, rather than a problem on my end.

@rmm200. True, the button says mod manager but then the choice I made was Vortex, and that is what generated the error message in my OP.
