Courtlaw
Everything was great until latest version of Vortex was installed. For example: After the update I dropped Enb Series Zip file (which contained just the d3d dlls) into the download section of Vortex and installed "as is" so the dlls would be placed in the main Skyrimvr directory (so i could manage the ENB inside vortex) but the only thing that Vortex placed in the Skyrim directory were these two files: "vortex.deployment.dinput.json" and "vortex.deployment.enb.json". The "d3d11.dll" and "d3dcompiler_46e.dll" from the zip file are were not installed in the main Skyrim folder and are nowhere to be found. (Vortex download folders and mod folders are set up correctly). I also tried re-installing the previous version of Vortex but that didn't fix the problem. I have been using Vortex for quite sometime so I know it fairly well and never had any problems until this recent update occurred. Only thing I can think of that could have caused the problem is perhaps the update accidentally occurred while Vortex was simultaneously installing a mod and this corrupted something in Vortex system files but this just a guess as I really have no idea. Don't know what to do. Is there a way to do a clean install of Vortex without having to destroy my game profile and be forced to install all my mods from scratch? The thought of having to do that is terrifying and killing me. Not sure what to do here and I'm very frustrated -Steve
Pickysaurus
Can you link to the file you were trying to download? I would like to try and replicate this.
Courtlaw
Thanks for the reply Picky! I was just installing the latest ENB Series for VR version 0410 and as you know that has to be installed "as is" with Vortex unlike normal mods. But that was just one example. No matter what mod I try and install, Vortex is only installing the .json files and nothing else. I do see the mod files in the Vortex mod installation folder and archive folders it's just that Vortex is not installing the files in the Skyrim VR folder. Again, I have been using Vortex for awhile so I understand how it works but I just can't figure out why this is happening. And like I said, this problem occurred immediately after the Vortex update so something happened as a result of the update. Reinstalling the previous version of Vortex did not fix the problem. I think Vortex was installing a mod when the update occurred because I accidently hit the Vortex update prompt that appeared while I was installing mods. If so that may be a clue to what caused the problem. If I can't figure out how to fix this then I fear I may have to do a clean install of Vortex. If so how can I preserve my current Vortex game profile and mod order? Also, just to be clear, i did enable and deploy the mod before checking the Skyrim VR folder and the mod files are not found either in the main directory or the data folder. Even though they are not there, Vortex is saying it was properly enabled and installed and there are no error messages from Vortex.

Courtlaw
Yes the Skyrim VR extension is enabled. In a nutshell, Vortex is only installing "vortex.deployment.json" in the Skyrim VR data folder instead of the mod's.esp, .esm, .bsa, etc. Some more clues, under the MODS window, if I click on the Open folder tab on the orange Vortex header on top of the Vortex MODS window: - clicking on the "Open Mod Staging Folder" takes me to the Vortex staging folder;- clicking on the "Open Game Folder" takes me to the Skyrim VR main folder; - clicking the "Game Mods Folder" takes me to the Skyrim VR data folder; (Hmmmm is this correct? - clicking on the "Open Games Settings Folder" or "Open Game Application Data Folder" does nothing. [is this a clue?]
Courtlaw
I'm getting desperate here. Do I need to do a clean install of Vortex, or even worse, clean install of Skyrim VR and Steam? PLEASE TELL ME NO!!! I'm starting to understand now why everyone is saying not to use Vortex as a mod manager. This experience is extremely frustratiing. This is bullshit

This is bulls*** "Everyone" is not saying to Not Use Vortex, that's what's called an "Argumentum ad Populum" So far a handful of people are having this problem, and it's starting to look like a bug in the new update, so either be patient, or risk completely screwing up your install by doing all of that stuff you're thinking of doing.YOu should file a report using the Vortex client, (Click the three dots in the upper right hand corner) and submit it, it will get seen a lot faster than starting to swear in the forums, and risking getting a band for a few days. Courtlaw
I reinstalled the previous version and the problem still exists. So whatever the update did it screwed up some master file somewhere. So at this time I don't even have the option of starting from scratch anyway because Vortex will not work no matter what version you are using. I am so f*#@ing pissed right now because I have a feeling all the work I did the past f*#@in week was all done in vain. Who is going to give me all my precious time back.. Not mad at you guys of course just venting at the Vortex tech team. Who ever okayed this update without doing system checks should replaced with a competent person. This is uncalled for
