Path Of Exile Beta

So, Path Of Exile, a lot of us CRPG die-hards have been looking forward to it, but now it's in beta, and I've gotta say, it's been worth the wait. This game. Looks. Great. It's got very decent graphics, the combat is excellent, the skill tree is... terrifyingly huge, and best of all, it's 110% free, working on an "ethical microtranscation" system, in which you can only purchse cosmetic things.

A couple of interesting this about it; the randomised levels are truly random, they work perfectly, but it is trippy, sometimes you'll go back through a door and wind up in a totally different zone. This does massively add to replayability. Class dynamics work well, right now you've got 3 pure classes, range, melee, and caster, and there's also 3 hybrids. The biggest quirks are how you develope them however; instead of buying active abilities you slot gems into gear to gain various powers, once the gem is slotted you can then further customise with additional sub-gems. Even stranger, there's no currency, instead you trade.

Overall for a beta this game feels enormously polished and very much what I had hoped Diablo 3 would be, since it's totally free, I can really recomend you check it out.

if i hadnt just bought SC HotS, i might look into this. but for now, im completely engrossed in the Campaign.

i played PoE about a year ago, and enjoyed the little time i put into it (maybe a day or two) and have heard very good things about it here on the nexus so ill definitely be checking it out, eventually. i have it downloaded and ready to go so its only a matter of whenever i roll around to playing it...i literally have tens of games i still have yet to play that i own, both on PC and PS3. so who knows when ill get around to it. plus all the games i still wanna go back to. and then on top of that games i dont even have that i wanna try out. ugh. i just dont have the time (or money) i wish i had to play all these games!!! lol

Heh. That's a wonderful problem to have, Hoof. I feel the same way, I've got Gears Of War and God Of War out tommorow, but only one HDMI cable! I think I'm going to have to flip a coin...

I've played it to level 60 and now I'm massively bored. The decent-loot drop percentages are horrible which turns it in to a huge grind fest. I know, it's an ARPG and that's what ARPGs are, but still, it's not for me.

I made a thread on this, btw

Yeah, I'm level 62 currently and just pretty bored right now. The latest patch added a lot of nice things at least, but I haven't bothered to play it. The end game Maps are alright, but we need a new Act.

It's a fun game, I'm really enjoying it. It's everything DIII should have been, and the best thing is there's no RMAH or any stupid microtransactions that make you better. All you can get is cosmetic items. Some cost like $20. I've seen enough people with them, so they are getting a fair amount of support. I was in the Closed Beta, they gave us some money for the store. I just bought a few extra stash tabs. You'll need them, you do save a lot of crap to trade/sell.

I'm so glad I didn't get suckered into the hype of that thing.

Anyways, Path of Exiles sounds more like an Action RPG rather than Classic RPG. To me, Classic RPG is turn-based stuff, but maybe I've got that wrong. Now that's something I miss. Turn-based games. :(
