gsmanners
Questing does go by too fast because they have this weird idea that the protagonist needs to become a god or something in every major quest. It's a classic case of being WAY too ambitious for their own good. I find myself starting a lot of quests and then prudently stopping before getting too far along. There are level restrictions to certain quests (like level 30 for Boethia's quest). I can understand wanting to gain levels (which is why I've modded my game to level up 10 time faster). Levels don't really matter as far as most quests go. I actually did the whole main quest line at level 4 once. Lame. Elder Scrolls just doesn't have a good system for skills. Kayyyleb
Most people will max out all the skills they use by level 40-50. Getting past that requires using skills that aren't in your playstyle.

gsmanners
Lately, I've been playing one or two holds, and nothing else. It's really easy to do with the Live Another Life mod. You just start where you want and then just play there. My Argonian in the Rift started out in Blackreach and then just explored everywhere in the Rift. After doing everything there is to do (aside from the Thieves Guild and a bunch of small quests), he's up at level 66, Thane of Riften, etc. I also have a Wood Elf playing Winterhold/The Pale. Started out in Dawnstar by boat and joined the Mages Guild. That's been fun. For Eastmarch, I think I'll have to combine that with Solstheim to keep it interesting. I think playing it bit by bit makes it quite a lot more fun.
engapol
I think I know what I'm doing wrong, the only skills I have that get any meaningful progress are: Sneak, Archery,Light armour, Block, One-handed, Speech and lockpicking. And I'll stop quick travelling.

knovack1
Number one Stop with the fast traveling Number two use more skill perks to train in. If one just sticks perks in Alteration and Restoration and nothing else. You can stand in one spot and level just casting an Alteration or a Restoration spell over and over. Number three get mods that add more things. Frostfall for example. Install it and max the difficulty out for your character. You can die with prolong Exposure and Hunger. There is also a setting the degrades your wood axe overtime, and can not fast travel with out a wood axe in your inventory. Don't like footing it? Buy a horse. Grab Deadly Dragons, increase the spawn times in settings and make the difficulty insane, on top of making the game difficulty to masters.
gsmanners
Number four: Don't do stupid quests that encourage you to fast travel (like the Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, Civil War, the main quest). That's the thing about this game. They purposely design the quests to either force you to travel horrifically long distances between each objective (to pad out their time played numbers for marketing reasons), and then they wonder why people demand to be able to fast travel. Well duh.
