litewolf Posted April 13, 2018 Share Posted April 13, 2018 In my SSE folder (and subfolders) I have 17,526 files with suffix .vortex_backup for 34.7/Gb of used disk space.They have different creation dates and appear to be copies of different types of files (.esm, .esp., .bsa, .txt and so on).Are they needed? Tannin42 Posted April 13, 2018 Share Posted April 13, 2018 vortex_backup files are files that vortex would have to replace to deploy it's mods but since it doesn't know where they came from (probably from a NMM install?) it just renames them as a precaution.If you purge inside vortex it should restore those files so you can continue where you left off with the other modding tool. My advise would be to do that. If you're happy with vortex and want to continue using it, purge in vortex, disable the mods inside the other tool, then deploy inside vortex again. rmm200 Posted March 20, 2019 Share Posted March 20, 2019 (edited) If it were me, I would Open Vortex and use Purge to remove the hard links.Close Vortex and delete everything in your game directory not installed by Bethesda. That includes the Scripts, Textures, and Meshes folders, and anything that looks mod related.Then use Steam to validate your game directory. It will replace anything you should not have deleted.Fire up your game from Steam and verify it comes up.Stop your game.Start Vortex and Deploy. Done. Should run fine after that.Nota Bene: If you don't see the Purge Mods option at the top of your Mods window, go to Settings and Enable Advanced Mode. Purge option (WHICH SHOULD BE ON BY DEFAULT) is here, through these steps. 1. Turn on ADVANCED MODE (WHICH SHOULD ALSO BE ON BY DEFAULT) 2. You're completely not understanding how mod managers workIt's not "backing up" your installation, that Mod Staging Folder IS the folder where the Mods are Physically installed.
