Various install order bugs

I have 160 mods installed and I have noticed a few frequent and annoying bugs:

1) I often get two mods with the same number in the Install Order column. This implies they install simultaneously, which is impossible. Attempts to drag one of the mods dependency icon onto the other does allow me to create a rule to tell Vortex which installs first, but Vortex ignores it because even after doing so the two mods still retain the same Install Order number.

2) Dragging one of the icons in the Dependency list onto another often fails if I must scroll down the list to do so. Nothing, bad happens, it just does nothing. Which forces me to create artificial rules to move the mod up the list, or resort to other tricks so I can get it on the same page to create the dependency.

3) When trying to drag the icon in the Dependency column up to a mod higher in the list, there is no way to scroll the list upward. Again this forces me to play tricks to get it on the same page so I can create the dependency.

by any chance, are the mods that have the same number in the install order column different versions of the same mod, such as my_mod v.1.4 and my_mod v1.5?

No. That would be understandable, however I have two of them in my current install list.

For example, Install Order 17 is shared by "Realistic Ragdolls and Force SE" and "Acquisitive Soul Gems Multithreaded."

Later, 26 is shared by "hdtSSEPhysics_1_5_62.7z" and "hdtSSEHH_1_5_62.7z," which might have something to do with them being related.

But later 49 is shared by "Main Font Replacement SSE - Fertigo Pro Font" and "Lore-Based Loading Screen 1.3 SE"

Number 54 in the list is even skipped

do you have auto sort enabled on your plugins tab? you need to go into settings/advanced and then enable it and see if that has any bearing on the mod index value?

No, I prefer to sort them manually and enabling it has no effect. This is what I would expect because I don't think what appears on the Plugins tab has much to do with what appears on the Mods tab. Other than the same problem with creating dependencies when two mods are far apart I have no issues with the "Install Order" and that column on the Pulgins tab seems to sort and create dependencies properly. It's the Mods page that is a mess.

I also may have stumbled upon another issue. Sometimes the file or name of a mod doesn't reflect the name of the mod as it is described on the Nexus page. For example SSE Engine Fixes installs as "Engine Fixes". If you rename it to "SSE Engine Fixes", the dependencies don't always seem to recognize the mod anymore, even if you create a new dependency. This is perhaps consistent with the fact that the new dependency still uses the old name "Engine Fixes" rather than the new one you assigned (which is yet another bug).

Plugins refer to the actual ESP, ESM, ESL files.

MODS refers to the Textures, Meshes, BSAs of a downloaded Mod

Leave Autosort turned on for the Plugins, you no longer have to micromanage the load order of the ESPs, Vortex does it for you.

Vortex then tells you about Conflicts with your Textures, Meshes and BSAs, those are the really important ones to sort correctly as you'll be telling Vortex which Textures and Meshes to overwrite from one mod over another

This is especially important for Patches, and Mods that change the textures/meshes of another mod.|

You always want a patch to LOAD AFTER the mod it's patching, and you always want a Texture/Mesh mod to load AFTER as mod that it's changing the textures of.

I would stick with either using LOAD BEFORE, or LOAD AFTER, try to stick with one of those options to keep things ordered in your head.

The install order only matters if two mods conflict, otherwise they could in fact me deployed at the same time no problem.

Just - stop worrying about it. If the mods don't conflict, the install order doesn't matter. If they do, set a rule and be done with it. The install order number it displays is just a visual gimmick because users are used to having it but it's the rules that matter.

Now Vortex actually shouldn't be giving two mods the same id, actually I'm pretty sure it can't the way it's coded so my guess is that it's purely a display bug where the order has changed and not all mods have been updated.

Re 2: Again, the install order between mods that don't conflict does not matter. I'll look into it but realistically you should be setting the rules through the lightning bolt dialog anyway.

Re 3: Incorrect, you can scroll up. I'll admit that it's tricky though because you actually have to drag it to the top of the header. There is little we can do about this though, I actually have very little control over the scrolling behavior

> Please leave auto-sort ON in the PLUGINS tab and forget about it. ( You cannot beat LOOT which will be activated after you turn auto-sort ON )

> Try NOT to install two mods of the same kind to avoid more conflicts but if you have two or more of the same kind, resolve the conflict via rules. One of them will win the conflict by either choosing load before or after and that will depend entirely on your own decision. Resolve conflicts as they appear. If you install several mods and at the end you try to resolve conflicts, it will be a mess, more confusing for you. On the other hand, if you insist to have two mods that do the same working at the same time, then you would have to use Xedit to fix that by merging both mods and this last action, has nothing to do with Vortex. Personally, I avoid using Xedit unless it is absolutely necessary and as the last resort.
