Some Vortex Feature Suggestions

Finally getting around to using Vortex for a Bethesda game. This is a phenomenal improvement over NMM and I have been loving it. So fast, sleek, user friendly in most ways, and the knowledge base is an amazing addition. I've been using MO for the most part for the past few years, and there are some things I'd like to see translate if possible, plus some other ideas:

Settings

- Option to disable/enable certain things from the notification bell.

- Things like installed, downloaded, needs deploying, etc. Really irritating when mass installing a lot of mods.

- Apply Mod Staging Folder change to all games. I've had to change it each time I go to add a new game I'm working on.

- Change panels sizes and shapes on the Dashboard. You can already move them around, but it would be helpful to reshape them (at least say long rectangle or box like).

Features

- Send feedback through Vortex in some capacity.

- Show what mods have FMOD installers before installing them.

- Have FMOD installers discover mod files and suggest plugins to enable/disable

- Ability to re-run FMOD installers after installing the mods. This is for if you have mods later on that install and you need to re-do plugins.

- When FMOD installers run, let the user move the box and still access the mod list. That way if the idea for mods to find the plugins they need, the user can cross-check on their own in app.

- Dismiss some notifications like Missing Masters when a mod is looking for a master with a different plugin name (updates generally). Could also just let you find it on its own.

- Search Nexus for mods through the application. Something like Steam's in-app web service (I know its not great). Would be super helpful for finding cool new mods to add (or like in my case just go through hundreds of pages looking for different mods).

- Check mod list and see if any mods conflict but have patches to fix them on the nexus. (Might be super hard to do but thought it was worth a shot mentioning).

Modlist

- Define dependencies for mods by typing in mod name, not just dragging.

- Rename mod names for user convenience.

- Export mod list to a text document.

- Add user-made categories to mods for sorting + allow said categories to be collapsable.

- Add the ability for mods to have multiple categories as well. (Could just pull from Nexus's mod tags?)

- When managing rules/conflictions allow the user to search them, or collapse mods once all of the conflicts have been resolved to their standards. That way its not endless scrolling and searching for if anything wasn't changed yet.

- Add a filter in Downloads to help with showing mods recently added to the list to download. The "Downloaded" filter worked until multiple mods got downloaded and messed up the list I was going down trying to make sure I requested all the mods I wanted from the servers.

Would be cool to see what others have to add to this list, or your guys' feedback on any of these.

Happy Modding!

Click the three vertical dots next to your avatar in the upper right hand corner, pick "SEND FEEDBACK", or are you looking to send feedback to a Mod Author like posting on their mod page?

- Ability to re-run FMOD installers after installing the mods. This is for if you have mods later on that install and you need to re-do plugins.

Click the MODS tab, find the mod in your list you want to reinstall, click the down arrow icon on the orange "REMOVE" button, pick "REINSTALL"

Rename mod names for user convenience.

Double click the mod, a panel opens on the right hand side, Enter the name of the mod in the MOD NAME field

Add user-made categories to mods for sorting

Click "CATEGORIES", click "ADD ROOT", you can also click EXPAND ALL, and COLLAPSE ALL, SHOW/HIDE EMPTY, and RETRIEVE CATEGORIES

(Not sure if that's what you're looking for)

- Add a filter in Downloads to help with showing mods recently added to the list to download. The "Downloaded" filter worked until multiple mods got downloaded and messed up the list I was going down trying to make sure I requested all the mods I wanted from the servers.

Oh wow, thanks for all of these, I'd been messing with the software for a bit but I happened to miss some of them I guess. :pinch: You covered all of the ones there, (feel really dumb missing the feedback in app and the mod name even though I tried double clicking). When it comes to the reinstall one, I was thinking a way to just re-run the FMOD installer but... yeah thinking about it, it really is just reinstalling at that point anyway haha.

Vortex already offers this. On an installed mod, click the orange dropdown arrow at the far-right end of the mod's record - it probably says "Remove" by default, don't click that! Click the down-arrow to the right of "Remove" - and you will discover "Reinstall" :woot: which first disables the mod then runs the installation all over again from the very beginning, allowing you to make different choices. In this way you can make one set of choices for one profile and another set of choices for the same mod in a different profile. It doesn't get any better than that. :D

EDIT: Ah crap I just saw where TooLazyToThinkOfAnActualName  answered this already. My bad. Still, I'm leaving my response here because, well, Nexus doesn't allow post deletions even within the first 5 minutes by the post's own author. Besides, Robin is paying me by the word and my response has more words than the previous response does on this subject.

Probably because "TooLazyToReadAllThreePostsInAThread" missed my response before responding.

Does Vortex have the capability of exporting load lists, and then being able to reinstall mods from said list, in the event of a windows reinstall, or hdd replacement?

It currently can't export a load order list, but it can restore mods from a Savegame.

Go to the save game tab, you'll get an option to Restore the mods used in the save game.

I like the idea of adding user-managed tags to mods for filtering them without changing their Nexus-assigned categories. I have a group of what ( in my mind ) are combat mods, but they in about 5 different Nexus mods categories, including Combat. In MO2, I grouped them with a horizontal divider lines above/below them in the mod list. Then I put the label "Combat Mods" on the group.

I'll click the 3 dots and send feedback for user-managed tags. I didn't know about that feature either, but I started using Vortex a week ago. I love it so far , but I have a log to learn. Gopher's Youtube video series on Vortex is a huge help in that regard.

About being reminded to re-run FOMOD installers to install patched / plugins that you need after changing your modlist, LOOT might check for at least missing patches. I know it alerts you about missing dependencies. But yeah, in the last week I've installed about 350 mods, and I don't remember which FOMODS I might need to re-run. I guess I'll find out if there are weird visuals, behavior, or my personal favorite - CTD. :shruggie:
