Solid colored screen crashes.
Maigrets replied to JimmyFury's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
I have onboard sound as well and have no issues with it, and it gets put through some stress. It's also Realtek HD 8 channel. Something else you can try that might help if you do have sound related issues is Quiet Feet Max. It's a mod which replaces the foot sounds of most creatures with silent dummy files. The foot sounds can put stress on audio cards, especially onboard ones. There's no esp, it's only "sound" files. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12331 As far as the CPU-Z report it may help, but someone more technically minded would have to look at it, not me... -
Wrye bashing & general mod help.
Maigrets replied to Qc Storm's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
An FCOM installation isn't for the "faint of heart" as they say at top of the Official forums thread, unless you read the docs extensively and make sure to understand them. This is the mistake most people with issues make...not reading the instructions. :whistling: Not meaning you specifically, but it's a common theme, with this and most mods. FCOM can even be daunting for experienced mod users and will certainly give you a headache before it's all done and working...Prepare to spend an afternoon and evening or longer getting it set up correctly, but when you do, it is so satisfying and makes the game seem like new. I would personally never go back to an non FCOM install. For the most up to date info and detailed instructions and links go here to the Bethesda Official Forum FCOM Topic. http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1089902-relz-fcom-convergence-and-ufcom-relz/ It will link you to the latest files and updates, explain load orders, and via links explain the Bashed Patch procedure. (much better than I could explain it here.) It's not that hard really, but explaining it can be confusing. This is a link to TheNiceOne's OMOD installers which make it much easier to get everything in place correctly. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=24647 This is another link to the FCOM Cheat Sheet, or Quick Start Guide, but some of the info is outdated. It does have valuable info though, but make sure to read the Official forum link from top to bottom. A lot. http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/fcominstall.html By the way OBSE isn't required for any of the FCOM files so you only need it if you have mods that do require it. It's not an essential unless your mods need it to run and they will hopefully say that in their readme's. Always use the OBSE.exe loader to run the game in that case. Many OBSE mods will still work, but you won't have the extended script functions. P.S. I notice you mentioned the green dead enemy issue in your first post. This is fixed by renaming the Martigen's Monster Mods bsa as detailed in the FCOM forum thread. -
Do you have a link to the mod because when I entered the name you supplied into the Tesnexus search engine, I only got the Knights of Order Black Retexture mod Anyway, it sounds like the mod supplies a skeleton with the armour. What this means is a skeleton mesh for the player and NPC's which the animations use in game. You can't see it and it's nothing to do with the undead creature skeleton. Check in the mod files meshes folders and see if there's a file called skeleton.nif. If there is just overwrite the current one the same as the rest of the mod. Without a link to the actual mod though I can't tell you any more.

Solid colored screen crashes.
Maigrets replied to JimmyFury's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
I have no experience with ATI graphic cards, I've always been an Nvidia fan, but it sounds almost exactly like an issue I was having at one time with drivers and every game I was currently playing. Same issue with the coloured screens and lockups etc, but was a bit more random. Updating drivers fixed it. Yours is a system issue, not restricted to Oblivion since other games and even just playing a video causes the lockups. So, whatever you do with Oblivion regarding reducing graphics, removing mods etc isn't going to help. When you have to do a hard reboot after a lockup, do you get a message to say "Windows has recovered from a serious error", or something similar. You can also check in the Administrative Tools\Event Viewer to see what caused the error. That's if you are the Administrator. You can get there via the Control Panel or Start Menu. However, that's for Windows XP, so it may be different for your system. Oblivion is much more graphic intense than the other games you mentioned, even after several years, so if you do have a graphic driver issue this is where it will stress the hardware the most. This suggests to me that it is a driver issue, especially if it helps for a short time. Even though you said you uninstalled and reinstalled the card and drivers, sometimes you may have to revert to a previous set. Drivers have been known to be buggy in the past and it may help to try an earlier version if you can find them. Make sure to run CCleaner after removing the current drivers to remove all registry entries, then apply the new ones. Another issue that can cause lockups like this is bad codecs. Usually FFShow Video and FFShow Audio which are used by many audio and video players. On the Official Oblivion forums they recommend using K-Lite codec pack. When you install, it will check for bad or broken codecs and remove them and their registry entries. It also has a basic version of Media Player and I use this for all video, including DVD's. It's problem free and works fine, if you don't care about fancy features you won't use and don't always need. http://www.free-codecs.com/download/k_lite_codec_pack.htm Some people recommend to make sure the file associations for MP3's are set to Windows Media Player, but I use iTunes for all audio and have no issues. Also check to see if your graphic card is overheating. You should be able to do that via the software that came with it. But, it sounds more like the driver issue to me since I've had it and fixed it by updating them. Like I said though, it might take a few different versions to find a stable one. Depressingly, even hardware drivers are sometimes faulty. Hopefully it is as simple as drivers and doesn't need extensive troubleshooting. -
When you disable or uninstall the UL mods are you also removing or disabling the Better Cities UL Compatibility Patches? Those patches rely on the actual UL mods to work and will shut your game down before it starts as you describe, due to missing Master files which are the full UL mods. Otherwise I can't see any reason why it's happening according to your BOSS log.

Oblivion was made a long time before Fallout 3 was released, so the only option I know of for dismembered bodies, which I gather is what you want, is Deadly Reflex. It's more than a gore mod however, and offers better (superior) combat mechanics as well as dodging, shield bashing, kicking, and more. It has decapitation, throat slitting, stabbing and impaling with all the in game detail. Earlier versions have Horse Combat, but that's not in the current version as it's being rewritten for the next update as far as the description says. You could try an earlier version of the mod for the Horse Combat, but it can be buggy. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8273 It requires OBSE(Oblivion Script Extender) and a thorough reading and understanding of the instructions for Deadly Reflex and OBSE. You can find videos on Youtube showing what DR does. This page has a number of them. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=oblivion+deadly+reflex&aq=f I believe there are others that overhaul the combat system, but I don't think they add the SPLAT! factor you're after. That would be a massive undertaking and all material would have to be original or from Fallout3 itself. Meaning nothing from another game, including Oblivion, can be used even though they are the same company. It's illegal to use assets from one game in another. Depending on how extensive it would need to be, the problems wouldn't be worth the effort. For example, a new set of animations would be needed and that's one of the hardest things in modding. Basically, play Oblivion because it's a fantasy game and Fallout3 because it's a post apocalyptic shooter. :nuke: Perhaps if you browse the Fallout3 mod categories you might find something to your liking. However, on such a large scale like a complete overhaul from one style of game to another, I doubt it.

That's a common problem when using mods and can even happen with the vanilla game. Usually it's not a problem, but if it bothers you there are other mods/utilities that can help with it. I don't use any of them since my heavily modded game doesn't crash and I can't remember the names, but you could check out the utilities section at Tesnexus. I think one is called Crash Prevention System or something similar. When in game bring up the console with the tilde key (just beneath Esc), type "saveini" without the quotes and press Enter. This will save any changes made to the graphics and other options. This is because every little thing you do in the game is recorded in your saves. especially important are mods like the UL series where you're saving in a location that has been altered to a large degree. The game can't find the information it needs in the save and so won't start. With the UL mods installed I suggest you go to a location in game that hasn't been modified at all, by any mod, and save. The testinghall would be a good idea. Type "coc testinghall" again without the quotes and you'll be taken to the games testing area. Save a couple of times so the saves are clear of mod location data, then try to remove the mods again. To leave the testing area find the door called Hawkhaven in the center and exit. You can fast travel anywhere from there. Keep in mind you may not be able to successfully remove the dependency because the data is inherent in the save game and with location altering mods this is especially so. If you try to load a save where you are actually in an altered location, as you've discovered, the game will crash. With mods that add items though, like armour or weapons for example, in most cases it won't affect your saves when the mod is removed. I don't use any of the UL series as I doubt my system would handle them with it's current mod load, though I'd like to, but is there anything in their Readme's or the comments pages about these issues?

Harvest Flora shouldn't cause your game to shut down. I've been using it for years with a couple of hundred other mods and it works perfectly. You haven't listed the BSA so do you actually have the resources installed. These are the files I have in my data folder. I don't use any of the DLC's, unless you'd call Shivering Isles one. Harvest [Flora].esp Harvest [Flora] - Shivering Isles.esp Harvest [Flora] - bsa - this is the one with the necessary resource files. It's an archive like the Oblivion bsa's and contains the meshes and textures the esp needs to reference.
-
The file you downloaded is a 7z file which is another form of archive, like Winrar but has greater compression. Z-Zip is a free program, unlike Winrar, and will open all other formats of archive. It's also the most popular format these days for packaging mods. http://www.7-zip.org/ You'll need this program to unzip the archive you downloaded with the Mod Maker's manual. Then use Acrobat to read it. Edit: Must be Norton because the Official forums are OK from my end. Sometimes you get false positives.

You could try this mod. Tchos Breakfast Foods http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20526 Then there's COBL has many additions like milk, honey, various breads and cheeses and meats, eggs and more. Salmo's Bakery items are incorporated. Pies and cakes etc. Depending on what you do eat for breakfast. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21104

Possibly the reason why the questions aren't answered is because no-one knows the answer or because the poster doesn't give enough information. Which Operating System do you have? If it's Vista or Windows 7 there are issues with Oblivion utilities that you can find the answer to by searching the forum. I use Windows XP so I'm no help there. Assuming you installed the mod correctly with OBMM it sounds like an Operating System problem. Have you installed the game in the default location it wants you to install to or in a root directory...eg C:\Oblivion, not in Program files. That's often the cause with Vista and Windows 7, but someone using those systems would be able to help further with that. Or search the forum for related problems.

If that's your BOSS load order then something is wrong. Except for a few mods the Bashed Patch should be at the very bottom. The mods listed beneath it are most likely not recognized ones and you must re-order them yourself above the Bashed Patch. Since you have Runeskulls last in the list it will not work correctly since it should be merged into the Bashed Patch and any changes are being negated by loading it in the wrong place. ie below the Bashed Patch which manages leveled lists. Before I upgraded to FCOM I was using OOO and MMM and Runeskulls and found them on Necromancers, in chests, and other loot. I had so many I used them to decorate my house.

The main reason mods don't show up is because your game isn't patched to the latest version, which is 1.2.0.416. If you have Shivering Isles make sure to only use the patch for SI. Do not use the Oblivion only one as well. This is assuming you don't have the D2D, Steam or Game of the Year versions which I believe are already patched. Might be wrong about that, but I'm still using the original Oblivion DVD I bought on the day the game was released and of course Shivering Isles. Mods made with the 1.2 version of the Construction Set will not show up if your game is not the same version and can, depending on the mod cause crashes. They will usually show up in the Data files selection or in OBMM, but not in the game. If you're sure you installed the races as directed by the readme they should be available at the Character selection screen as long as the game is patched and no other mod is interfering. I know of a few that alter the vanilla races and make it impossible to select or even see the custom races. This is usually because these mods have changed something they shouldn't have and not because of the custom race you want to use. However, if you're using Vista or Windows7 there may be related issues there as well. I use Windows XP, so the only thing I can advise related to other Operating Systems is to not install the game in the default directory. Install to C:\Oblivion for example. You can find advice for Vista etc by searching the forum. Are you using other mods, particularly cosmetic mods that add eyes and hair or make changes to any of the vanilla races? You can find info on how to install mods in the sticky threads at the top of the forum page or also go here for in depth instructions. It also deals with Oblivion Mod Manager, Wrye Bash and many other things you'll find helpful. http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Oblivion_Mods_FAQ EDIT: I didn't notice page 2 of this thread.... I wouldn't do this if I were you. It's against the rules and you could get banned, One for another account and two for lying about your age, if that's the case, since you already admitted it here.

Is there a mod that adds Bear, Deer, Wolf and Lion skin rugs?
Maigrets replied to Leemonski's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
In the CS under Static there is a bear skin and wolf skin rug. Also a Minotaur Head. Just click on Static and find them in the list.. Don't click the cross next to it or it will be harder to find them. BearSkinRug01 MinotaurHead01 WolfRug As far as I can see there are no other trophy heads unless there's a mod that adds them. I know Waalx Animals and Creatures mod has several different trophy heads, but you need to register at Waalx forum to download the file. It's over 700mb though. You won't see topics in the relevant section unless you log in and the files are absolutely not resources so it would only be for private use. http://waalx.com/RealSwordsForum/index.php -
Length of books (and of scrolls)?
Maigrets replied to Themisive's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
I've written some quite lengthy in game books for a few of my mods, and I'm not sure there is a limit. If there is I haven't reached it. However, you might want to give this utility a try. It'll do all of the HTML coding for you plus a heap of other things. Oblivion Book Creator http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=29124 I have it installed but haven't gotten around to trying it yet. I've done the HTML coding manually though. It's not too hard, just time consuming. I assume you've read about books and how to create them on the CS Wiki? There are other links at the bottom of the page. http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Book_Formatting -
Not true. @zariarn If you go back to the brother who gave you the quest they will both head off to Weatherleah and the house will be transformed next time you visit. Unfortunately, you have to escort them there, but they can be used to fight off enemies if necessary. Keep them alive until they reach home then it doesn't matter any more if new ogres pick them off. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Legacy_Lost

If you register at Waalx forum you can download his Animal and Creature Overhaul which contains these dogs. I've made several companions from them to use in my game. Note though the file is over 700mb and comes as a BSA so you'll need to unpack it. EDIT: forgot the forum link. You can't see the relevant section without registering. http://waalx.com/RealSwordsForum/index.php These contain new meshes and textures so the dogs have pricked ears and floppy ears, some with tails and some without. There is even dog armour as in my screen shots of my Battle Hounds. I have a new mesh and texture for Rosie as well, but I can't release it since Waalx has been out of contact and not on his forum either, as far as I know, for nearly 8 months. He did say I could release it sometime in the future but not when. I have the PM's that say I can as well as the armoured ones, but for the time being I'm afraid they have to stay unreleased. However, you could make your own using my Creature Companion Tutorial or CM Partners if you prefer. My creature companion tutorial: http://savageartistry.darkbb.com/tes-iv-oblivion-technical-info-f11/my-simple-creature-companion-tutorial-t129.htm Click thumbnails to enlarge.. Billie the Dalmation http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n185/maigrets/Creature%20Companions/th_Billie.jpg Billie and my version of Rosie http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n185/maigrets/Creature%20Companions/th_TwoDogs.jpg Battle Hounds - Rocky and Spike. Can be without armour as well. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n185/maigrets/Creature%20Companions/th_MyBattleHounds.jpg House Guard http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n185/maigrets/Creature%20Companions/th_YellowDog.jpg There are others like a Great Dane as well. I have some other screen shots, but I can't find them amongst the mess of my Oblivion related stuff. Hope this helps a bit...

FCOM crashes when I try to load old saves
Maigrets replied to Megatarius's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
It's not recommended to add FCOM to an existing character, especially if it's been in use for awhile with a lot of other mods. It can be done, but it's not worth the trouble in the end. I'd start a new game and then everything would be configured from the beginning and you'd have far few problems getting it to work. The first thing you would need to do is install OOO by itself because the basis of FCOM is OOO and then run the save updater that comes with it. This updates leveled lists, stats and too many other things to mention. This is for characters where OOO has never been used before. The problem is your saves contain data that has nothing in them related to OOO stats and levels etc and they will probably never work properly. A clean save will not fix this in this case. As they advise in the Official forums FCOM thread add FCOM files only to a character and then after extensive testing add any others you may want to use. Overhaul mods make a lot of changes that really need to be played with a completely new character to have a trouble free game. Even though you don't want to start over you'll find it's worth it in the end since FCOM turns the game into a totally new experience. Just remember in the beginning it's not cowardly to run away. You can return another day to take your revenge. The Bashed Patch merges mods, adjusts leveled lists, stats, graphics, and a lot of other things which are an absolute essential for FCOM to work properly. Since you want to use FCOM you should download Wrye Bash if you haven't already done so. It has a HTML help file which explains everything you need to know and how to do it. Also BOSS(Better Oblivion Sorting Software) will be another essential to sort your load order correctly. -
Yes, you can remove the Petshop. Extract the archive you downloaded into a temporary folder somewhere out of the Oblivion directory and remove all the files in your data folder exactly as they are in the extracted file. Plus the esp. Your load order is a bit of a mess.. The Bashed Patch for one should be last in the list, bar a couple of exceptions, otherwise nothing it includes is going to work. Get BOSS(Better Oblivion Sorting Software) to sort your load order for you. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20516 This may very well fix your dialogue problem if the mods are loaded in the correct order.
-
So I take it I will need to figure out a way to convert the data to a omod file? Yes and the only way to do that is to use OBMM. The instructions for converting to omod are in the help files that come with it. Or as suggested you can use Wrye Bash which can be a bit daunting for new users but if you follow the directions only for what you need it's not too bad. It has a HTML help file with everything you need to know and many other tools that you may find very useful.
-
I usually use OBMM to list my load order but in Wrye Bash if you right click on the FILE tab under Replacers - Mods- Saves etc you'll get a menu where it says List Mods. If you click that it will generate a list which you can copy and paste. I'm not using the latest version either so I'm assuming it's the same. I must update.. For the Cheydinhal Petshop go here. It's the second post and there's no need to login. http://savageartistry.darkbb.com/tes-iv-ob...utions-t132.htm I hope that fixes your speech issues.
-
No, that's just up the hill from the tutorial sewer exit, but it is a very useful mod. Good for mod testing purposes. @ Myloke Sorry that was no help but WillieSea's mod does the same thing as you want and more. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13783
-
Since you have a ton of mods it would help to post a load order. If you have OBMM(Oblivion Mod Manager) go to Import/Export on the right of the main window and select View Load Oder. Save the resulting text to something like Wordpad and copy and paste it here. One of the mods known to cause dialogue issues like this is the Cheydinhal Petshop because it edited the timing for speech accidentally. If you have this mod I can post a fix if you have the Construction Set. You don't need any particular knowledge of the CS to do this. It just involves making a quick change and saving the esp.

Regarding the Cobl Races Balanced, the CTD happen in certain spot, like Tavern. In general seems that it occurs when other NPC are near. The CTD is not so random, if it happen in certain spot, it will happen again in the same spot. Are you using it without problem? Maybe there's a conflict with other mod, but i don't use any other race mod. Sorry, I meant the crashes in FCOM in general. The OP doesn't say where and when the crashes occur. No, I don't use Cobl Balanced Races. In the Cobl Readme it says Balanced races changes vanilla Birthsigns and Abilities and NOT to use it if you don't want these changes. It could be a problem if using other race balancing mods. Since I don't use any vanilla races or care about their abilities etc I don't need it for FCOM or any other reason. FCOM makes a lot of changes in itself, (understatement :D ) so I prefer to go on the side of caution and not use Balanced races when it's not necessary to me.
-
@ BEArbiter I don't know where you got the info that FCOM_RealSwords.esp causes problems. I've never had an issue with it and I've been using it for awhile now. @ Erfinjerfin: Go here to the Official FCOM page and read through the guidelines. BOSS isn't always right and you sometimes have to troubleshoot these things yourself. http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.ph...owtopic=1079991 If you had a missing Master the game wouldn't even start at all. It would crash to the Desktop immediately. Cobl Races Balanced could also be a problem as HellBoyz77 suggested. You don't say how it doesn't work or where or when the CTD's occur, so it makes it a bit difficult to help.
