The hopelessness of skyrim journalist's coverage
Corakus replied to Lingwei's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
This was with the snark toned down?Really?I would have loved to see the original version.I'm starting to really hate word "streamlined", every time Bethesda uses it, it's really just a euphemism for "dumbed down".They act as if though the only attributes in Oblivion were Endurance and Intelligence, it's as if they completely forgot about Strength, Agility, Speed, Personality, Willpower, and Luck.In fact here's a quote from Todd on RockPaperShotgun: That doesn't make any sense to me, how does EVERY attribute get condensed into Health, Magicka, and Stamina?Sounds like a load of crap to me.But maybe I'm being too negative and cynical. -
I believe the orc already has sort of a beard if you look closely enough at the recently released screen, it's sort of a chin beard..Khajiits have always had facial hair, they have hair everywhere, would be cool if instead of beards, they could have different whisker designs or something..I don't think Argonians even grow hair but they might have some sort of facial fins or something like that.

Maybe they should add in dismemberment, but then Beth should add an option to toggle it off, for people who don't prefer it or play the game in front of family members.

I agree that this would be a good thing if it did happen, many people can't or won't buy a decent enough PC to run Skyrim smoothly, and so have to resort to using a console. But in doing so, they sacrifice the TREMENDOUS amount of content they could get with mod databases.I still seriously doubt this would happen, it just doesn't seem likely that Microsoft would let people download loads of content for free, being the moneyhogs that they are. With Sony there might be a chance that they'd allow it, because they're a little less greedy than Microsoft, but I don't see it happening on the 360.But if it did happen it would not only be good for the TES community, because it would attract more modders and whatnot, but it would also probably increase sells on the console, which would be good for Bethesda.

Well you can't use a sword and a shield and use spells, because spells now equip like weapons/offhand.There is a new hotkey system that Bethesda claims will make it easy to switch between loadouts, not sure though since I've never seen it in action.Inside Skyrim's Menu System Overhaul on GameInformer says a little bit about this.

Found something interesting on Ausgamers here. So we know there's still encumbrance, still don't know how they're going to decide who can carry more weight without attributes though.Maybe it'll be dependent on stamina, or level?

A perk like that would be under sneak, and I remember Todd specifically saying in a podcast on Game Informer that there are perk trees under the skills.(Forget the Link) That might only be for weapons or attacks skills though.I don't think there's enough info to tell if it works the same for all skills, unless there's some info I missed somewhere. And I would think the bats would be ambient, similar to the birds, but for dungeons.
-
What?! When did this happen?! You're joking, right? THAT'S NOT FUNNY! :wallbash: Seriously, though, I hope that doesn't mean we all run at the same speed, at the very least, let the races have a difference in speed! Perks affect Running/Swimming speed and Jumping height, and I think Racial Traits does this as well. (Khajiits runs faster, Argonians swims faster, etc.) - If racial traits don't, I'll make a mod for it the instant I find out! :P Bats confirmed? I think that is bats as an environmental effect or something - just a bunch of bats flying past you. :) All the perks belong to a specific skill, so how would the perks affect movement speed and jump if there isn't any athletics or acrobatics skill or a similar skill? And I wasn't implying that the bats were a type of enemy that you could fight, I was just saying that they're probably in the game. Here's the link since I forgot to add it: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-04-18-the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-preview?page=4

This was on Eurogamer: Bats confirmed?

Hmm, I'm not sure if I agree with this design decision. Streamlining things is nice if done in moderation, but to me this looks like they've simplified things a bit too much. I too, feel this way.Todd says that "You have the same amount of possibilities because you still have Magicka instead of Intelligence and Health instead of Endurance" but what about other factors? What decides how much you get staggered, or how fast your magicka regens?Does your magicak regen at the same rate no matter what?Does every NPC move at the same speed in the world? And what decides how much weight you carry? It all gets more and more depressing the more I think about it.

From what I've seen of Morrowind (did not play it), they had different body models for the Argonian and Khajiits which made them much less human-like. Quite different in how they were implemented in Oblivion which is basically just different color skin and a different head model. LHammonds The same could be said for all races in Oblivion, not just Argonians and Khajiits.

From IGN: So the game does pause everytime you switch your spells or your weapon set-up.That sucks, how is that better than Oblivion? If anything that would just slow combat down even more. And also: So attributes have been officially removed, it's been implied that they were removed for some time now, but until now I wasn't sure as to whether or not it was really true. This is from VideoGamer: Yes we already knew that conversations took place in real-time, but I was under the impression that it would be like an Oblivion in-game cutscene, where you wouldn't be able to move or walk around, so this is good news for me, I hate being rooted to the spot in a game. Unfortunately, there isn't really any good new info here, most of it's just paraphrased info that we've already been told.

The orcs look a lot better than they did in Oblivion, also what kind of weapon is he holding, is that some kind of scimitar?I'm not sure how to feel about the Khajiit though, it looks like they still have the same closed-up fists, I was kind of hoping for claws this time around.I think that one structure is definitely some type of ruined fort. The locations look much better too, the orc appears to be in some sort of trench and I think the khajiit is in some type of nordic tomb.

Agree with this, though I think that only main quest NPCs are essential, and that all other NPCs are replaced by Radiant Story. But it doesn't seem right to kill someone in a duel, though we don't know all the details about dueling yet.Is it illegal? Will other NPCs assist the challenged?Does the NPC run away at the end of the duel or are you just forced to kill them?So many unanswered questions.
-
I just had a thought: two mages dueling in the middle of the streets? That doesn't sound very smart, the whole town would look as though it was attacked by a dragon when we both were finished.I'm also wondering if we kill our opponent if we win the duel or if they just get knocked unconscious.
-
Yes, and according to some of the devs the people that will challenge you will have skills similar to yours. So if you're a warrior then another melee fighter will challenge you or a mage will challenge you if you're a mage.I'm not sure how that works with stealth characters though, seems kinda odd to duel someone with a dagger or bow.
-
I strongly agree with the part about the robes. The mages' robes in Oblivion were utter crap, they used the same model for 10 different robes. You go through the entire Mages Guild questline only to find out that all you get is a retextured Mages' Robe with no enchantments whatsoever.
-
Which interview says this?Do you have a link to it?
-
Actually, it's the other way around. There are over 22700 files on the TESnexus, only 1101 of these are listed under the adult-only category, which is actually less than 10%.
-
I would like to play it on the PC, unfortunately my PC is rather crap and I get bad enough lag with Oblivion, if I want to play Skyrim with an fps over 10, I'll probably have to get it on the 360.
-
According to Todd, they have both Morrowind and Oblivion's travel system. You can fast travel only to places you've visited before, but there's a horse carriage that will take you cities and towns you haven't visited yet. I'm guessing that some of the hardcore Morrowind fans will only use the carriage, though.

Found this on Gamerant: Granted it's just a translation of Gameinformer's article, but it's interpretation implies that the favorites menu is only where you map what spells or equipment you'll be using, and that you would cycle through it with some other method.I would rather prefer it this way, because it implies that time wouldn't stop just so you could switch a weapon or a spell. If that were true, I don't see why someone would want to use the favorites menu, if it paused the game just like bringing up the menu does.
-
So I was reading through Gameinformer's article on Skyrim's menu system a few days ago and I spotted this: I may be misinterpreting this, but it seems to me that this means every time you want to switch to another loadout that the game pauses the action and you have to sort through your loadouts and then pick which one you want.Did I read this correctly? If I did, it sounds terrible, this would mean that when I'm playing as my mage, every time I wanted to switch to another set of spells, the game would pause. How is this better than Oblivion's, where the game would stay in real-time whenever I switched spells? This means that in each battle they'll be several pauses throughout, which would really slow me down.Someone please tell me I read this wrong.

Not everyone likes Rush, so for them to put it in the game would probably just make more people upset than happy, especially those who are fans of Jeremy Soule, not to mention the fact that it wouldn't fit the tone of Skyrim.Plus if Skyrim's music player is anything like Oblivion's, you'll probably be able to add the music in yourself with the PC version by dropping it in a folder somewhere.
