  1. is there any way to install FO NV on a internetless computer?? It's an offline game using only one player fer cryin out loud!!

OK, and now as I install f&$%ing steam (which I hate to no end) I'm told I need to "Activate (my) account" to play??? WTF?? It's a solo game you you Steam meatheads.. I'll go with a cracked/hacked game first.. uninstalling the retail version (purchased at wally world) until I'm told how to install without invasive content.

I feel your pain. Believe it or not, until a year or so ago I never had an ISP. Didn't need one. But lately so many game publishers are turning to Digital Rights Management as a requirement to run their games that it does indeed feel invasive.

Granted, Fallout New Vegas can be run without the internet once you get it all installed and registered, but other single-player games like Assassin's Creed 2 for example cannot be played off-line without resorting to illegal means.

I actually own two computers, but only one is connected to a router because doing so with the other would cost me extra. Even though I have purchased a game legally, if I were to want to install said game on the second PC so my significant other can enjoy it simultaneously I would be a criminal unless I bought the game twice? Publishers might argue that they are resorting to DRM because of pirates, but the DRM is in turn creating more pirates. It's a vicious circle.

It all just sounds to me like another way for game publishers to make more money and control us, but I like being within the bounds of the law so I guess all I can do is complain and learn to live with it. It's a sign of the times that we'll all just have to get used to I suppose.

  2. In a fantasy game set in an imaginary world, everything is subject to change. Even the end of the world may be postponed for another game.

...or could be completely reversed through magical means in "The Elder Scrolls VI: Morrowind Resurrection".

  3. It's true that setting the next sequel in another country would change the atmosphere, but if every sequel is nearly a carbon copy of the game before it then why bother making the sequel to begin with? I think seeing the post-nuclear world of the Fallout series from the perspective of another culture, perhaps the Communist Chinese or Russians, for example, in the next sequel would be a logical development.
  4. Since this family of sites maintains an adamant stance against piracy, this really may not be the best place to ask such questions. Not that I'm comparing DLing a mod that way to DLing an entire game from a torrent; I'm just saying that many members are likely to be very reluctant to discuss the topic or even reveal that they have knowledge of such things.
  5. Saddens me that no one takes a liking of a Firefly-based mod for Fallout New Vegas :(

I loved the show and love the idea of a Serenity complete with crew for Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Unfortunately I lack most of the skill and knowledge necessary to making such a thing, so all I can do is sit here and hope that someone far more talented than myself will answer our wishes.

If there can be a TARDIS in Oblivion and Fallout, I see no reason why a Firefly isn't at all possible as well.

  7. Right now, my saves are in the 17000s. If I wanted to change those numbers into, say, the 100s, should I just open up my save folder and change the number from, say, 17381 to 00381. Or would doing so screw up my game? Because I also have OBSE installed, there is also an OBSE file along with the vanilla ESS file. I would assume I would need to rename that one to the same name for the change to occur without bugs, right?

This should work, but if you're really not sure it would be best to try it with a single save first and then check to see if it will load properly in the game.

  8. I'm not sure how it is with the other games but with DA, I just back up my My Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age folder to another drive on a regular basis and if I have to reinstall the game or the OS it is simply a matter of drag-n-drop and I am back to where I was (or at least mighty close.) Downloading everything again would be daunting. As for conflicts, DA mods regularly conflict with one another and there is no "master conflict list" or any one program that can install any or every DA mod nor is there any way to scan a mod to check for dependencies. Don't get me wrong, that last bit would be nice but I don't see it happening unless some master programmer with way to much time comes along and takes a liking to over-modding DA.

I agree that perhaps the easiest and most effective way to prevent lost weekends reinstalling 200+ mods is to copy the game folder to another drive and then after the reinstall simply copy it back. (But then, experience has taught me to be a frequent file-backer-upper.)

  9. @ladydesire --- I did not mean that the existence of DLC means developers aren't putting effort into the games, just that they are too focused on that aspect and neglecting others, such as modding.

I would also like to modding for consoles, but no way will it happen this gen. Microsoft, for example, has shown time and time again that they're really overprotective with what the consumer can do with their games and system.

Maybe next gen, with a new system in place, users can create mods on the PC and easily distribute them across all platforms.

Since personal computers are somewhat of an integral tool of game modding and many game platforms have PC-like characteristics such as expandable hard drives and internet access, I think it would be quite feasible for game developers to make console modding possible. I suppose the big question then is will publishers allow it? Unfortunately, in an industry where pirating and cracking already deal a blow to their financial gains, it's not likely that they will do so. I wish this was not the case, but unfortunately that's how it looks at the moment to me.

  10. LOL, shouldn't every household have a flat screen HD TV these days? Prices are so cheap now stores are practically giving them away.

Judging by this statement I'm guessing that you are not from a blue-collar, middle-class background and thus would be surprised by how many households these days do not have such TVs and game consoles. There are also many families that cannot afford personal computers or the internet. Sure, the media these days depicts children as emerging from the womb with Bluetooths and BlackBerrys already equipped, but the truth is that keeping up-to-date with technology is something that common folks just can't afford if they still want to have enough money for rent or food.

I apologize if that sounded like a personal attack because it was not intended as such. I merely happened across this thread, saw the post and felt a need to respond with my opinion.

  11. I've recently installed The Suffering (the first one) on my PC. When the game starts all the characters are invisible. I've searched several forums etc. looking for a solution and have found none, the explanation being given that my rig running Windows 7 64 bit is too modern and the game will only work with older machines. I've tried setting different compatibility modes and such, but nothing resolves the issue.

Does anyone know how to get this game to run properly on a "modern" computer?

  12. I've always felt that there's enough talent in the modding community that a bunch of folks should get together and create their own retail game. Famous modders all the way back to the days of classic Doom have become noteworthy enough to be hired by game developers, so why not?
  13. Morrowind was the game that got me hooked on Bethesda games. Up until that point I had played only linear RPGs like those of the famous Final Fantasy franchise, games that were less like playing a game and more like just watching a bunch of animated sequences. Then I discovered this open-ended adventure and this entire world to explore, and I've never gone back.

Though some of today's players might criticize its graphics in comparison to Oblivion and the like, I still recommend that anybody with a computer or an XBox and a love for gaming play it at least once. It will always be a part of my video game library.

  14. It's my understanding that the moderators are able to see the IP addresses associated with each account so they know if they are all coming from the same place.

    Ha... I typed too slow!

  15. I have to agree that New Vegas lacks the enjoyment of exploration to be found in earlier games like Oblivion and Fallout 3. Not only have the developers used tough monsters to keep low-level characters confined to specific routes, but they've also placed a ridiculous number of invisible collision barriers all over the map to prevent us from crossing dunes and hills that in any other game we could have easily walked across. But I'm not the first to notice or mention these things; I just wanted to note that I am in agreement that these details are very annoying and in my opinion evidence of very poorly planned world designing.
  16. I think these are great suggestions and also wonder if they are possible to implement. Soon I will have uploaded mods on three of the four Nexus sites and I also visit the Forums regularly, so such features would certainly make keeping track of things smoother.
  17. I had to vote "yes" because I have occasion to use console commands while creating and testing mods.

But the real gray area is what other than the console would be considered cheating? Some mods might more obviously fit the bill if they add "god" items or weapons and armor, while others can be debated. I use custom companions which makes combat easier at times and lets me carry more stuff, so they could easily be considered cheats in a way. But on the other hand, the vanilla game provides us with companions, so (supposedly) the developers have taken companions into account when balancing the game, in which case companions would not be considered cheats.

  18. They're called Deathclaws instead of Fluffybunnypaws for a reason. Now they live up to their name.

I'll admit I'm used to a more leveled experience as opposed to a static and linear experience, but it's not so bad once you get used to it.
