**NEW** Fallout IDEA PLEASE READ ANDCOMMENT
Delikatessen replied to 3DGod's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
http://forums.denverbroncos.com/images/smilies/th_jawdrop.gif Whoa-ho-ho, slow down there. What you're talking about doing is way out of the capabilities of current technology. And could take decades to develop depending on the team. First of all, it's technically impossible due to the engine's bottlenecks. For example, a game world even a hundred square miles would take at least a few years to even get the terrain right. Then you have to worry about the details like rocks, cities, NPCs, clutter, dungeons, etc. so it doesn't look empty. And even then, it would run extremely slow on everything but the most powerful computers. Then there's the fact that a game world that's millions of square miles would take a very long time to develop. Further more, that game world would simply crash the computer unless it's specifically designed in a way that it doesn't load terrain around you for, say, 5 square miles. If you could implement a Minecraft-style loading system, where the world can be millions of times larger than Earth's surface (Minecraft's world size is limited to 4.7 quadrillion square kilometers), then it would be possible. But then there are development issues with that. It would take decades, maybe even centuries, to hand-craft something that...HUGE. Secondly, nobody could play it. I'm not trying to put you down, but here are two reasons: New Vegas is already over 7 gigabytes, and that's in a 14 square mile map (give or take). And all that contains is a desert and some snow (and there's some green too), weapons, armor, bodies (I'm not forgetting decor, static objects, activators and such)... A game based on Pangaea would be absolutely massive. I'm not talking in the hundreds of gigabytes or even terabytes. A game world that encompasses everything would be measured in, at least, petabytes. Because that would incorporate deserts, mountains, jungles, plains, oceans, lakes, all hand crafted for detail... but by the time the game is fully developed, we could have storage devices rated for Exabytes. And then we have life-span problems. A game world that big would take several lifetimes to explore! Thirdly, a lot of the small features you mentioned (V.A.T.S., cheats, others) would be trivial features compared to everything in this game world. Finally, it doesn't fit into Fallout's lore. The only things that could fit are the factions. The Pip-Boy doesn't even sound like a Pip-Boy anymore. And where have potions ever existed in Fallout? Id est, aside from "Aqua Cura". Like I said, I'm not trying to put you down, but this is all just way too imaginative. In my opinion, this is a good idea. But you would just be better off creating an entirely new game universe and limiting it to a space the size of Northern Ireland, with lore that expands to the entire world, to avoid the aforementioned problems. -
The Object To Your Left Is Now Your Weapon In A Zombie Apocalypse
Delikatessen replied to imperistan's topic in Forum Games
To my left is: My iguana, sitting on the desk. A plate, that holds my taco. An Arch Linux disk, used to install Arch Linux (duh). A keychain, for holding keys. Abrahadabra by Dimmu Borgir, used for listening to. Another monitor, containing Winamp. So... shall I have my iguana maul the zombies' feet, throw the plate at their faces, install Arch Linux on a computer then throw the computer at them, choke them with a keychain, blast symphonic metal so their heads explode, or throw the other monitor at them? I think I'll use the monitor. Alternatively, my cat just showed up after I type all of this out and almost clicked "Post". -
It wasn't curiosity that killed the cat... Winning!

(Male) Tomb Raider is one of my favorite game series (though I never completed it because my parents got rid of the computer in preparation of Y2K ), and I couldn't stand the thought of playing a female character at first. But around the time TR3 came out, I thought it was pretty awesome playing as a female, because I was used to Duke Nukem and Redneck Rampage, where you always played as a male. But Tomb Raider did something different, because it wasn't a masculine he-man type character you were forced to play as, and to be honest, the world's had enough male heroes. Then came Diablo II, where the Assassin was my favorite character. So now I always play as a female in every game I can, and I'm proud of it. Also, Lightning, Lara Croft and Samus are some of my favorite game characters ever.

Hey guys! I found an original NES that one of my friends is selling, along with a metric kilowhale of games. Should I buy it? BTW, win.

So I tried overclocking for the first time...
Delikatessen replied to Delikatessen's topic in Off-Topic
I just monitored the temp for twelve hours while playing games, watching movies and letting it idle for an hour, and the lowest (Idle) temp was around 40 Celsius and the highest was 68. The max temp for my processor is 65. Not over by that much, but it's still something I have to fix. I think I might apply some new thermal paste. -

I'm using a Cooler Master system, forgot what model it is though. It looks like this but it's for an LGA 775 socket. And I'll have to get back to you on that temperature thing because I haven't monitored it aside from that picture I put up in the first post. -
Granted, but to offset the epic ending, EA tells BioWare to change the gameplay so it is now unplayable. I wish Battlefield 3 didn't have an external server browser and Origin integration.

Delikatessen replied to Delikatessen's topic in Off-Topic
Thanks! And yeah, the overclockability (is that a word?) of processors is simply amazing these days. 7 years ago, we had 5GHz, but only if you had a very special motherboard and an awesome liquid nitrogen cooling system. Now it's pretty easy to achieve 5GHz if you have a high-end CPU and adequate cooling. Just imagine... by 2015, we'll have 14nm processors running at an incredible speed. -

OK, I just tried BF3 and it's running smooth as butter (45-75 FPS, up from 20 to 30 FPS). The only problem is that it crashes if I run it in fullscreen, but it was like that before I OC'd. -
Since my trusty ol' custom-built computer from 2008 is nearing the end of its life (motherboard's severely outdated), I thought I'd tried overclocking the Q6600 I have. I read up on the dangers of overclocking, such as heat, melting, fire, implosion, etc. and I decided to try it anyway. This is my first manual CPU overclock EVER. I used an Asus P5N-D with these settings: Vcore: 1.42 North Bridge: 1.44v HT: 1.44v South Bridge: Auto FSB: 1600 CPU Multiplier: x9 The result was 3.6GHz, overclocked from 2.4GHz. Not bad for a first try (self-pat-on-back) and it's pretty stable so far. I just tried CoD4 and it's running noticibly faster, as it was around 75 FPS before the OC and now it's 90 to 95 FPS after the OC (yes, I have an old GPU, but I'm upgrading it too). At first, I accidentally set the FSB wrong and it BSOD'd on me (which is funny, because my background displays a 124 error, which is sometimes caused by overclocking). I'm gonna mess around with BF3 and see what I can do.

62firelight, your doom comes in the form of Collector General assuming direct control:

Hey guys, guess what?

I have three. My camera broke, but if I had one I would upload pictures of them all (and before you ask, the camera that broke was the one on my phone). One is a German Zweihander (it's just a replica, but it's sturdy), another is a Kit Rae sword, and last but not least, my personal favorite, a katana. I got it for Christmas from my great-grandfather a long time ago (old man also gave me a German helmet from WW2 that had a bullet hole in it). It's not just a replica, either. It's a real, Japanese-forged katana, and I have no idea how he got it, since he was in Europe during WW2, not the Pacific. I wish I could find more swords like this one on the internet. Not high-quality replicas, but genuine swords forged by Japanese smiths. I also had a dagger once, but I bought it at a fair for like $20 and I lost it a long time ago.

brokenergy, your doom has come in the form of... INTERGALACTIC SPACE CRUSADERS!

Oh yeah?! Well, I got a 133MHz Pentium processor, a DOS, 16MB of RAM and a video card to knock all the others out of the water: An ATi VGA Wonder XL24. I can play Duke Nukem 3D at medium settings. BTW, I win.

I sang this while I was winning all the way in this forum game.

Why must we all ask questions?

I guess those three years I spent learning Japanese in school didn't pay off :psyduck: Oh! Granted, but now every time you corrupt a wish, that corrupted wish is forced upon you. I wish I had a bottle of mead.

538 HOURS?! I've owned Oblivion since day one (but the disc broke:() and I haven't even logged 300 in the 6 years its been out. You sir deserve a medal for overall Excellency in Gametime.

How much gear do you carry and why?
Delikatessen replied to Azrael120782's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
I carry a melee weapon (usually a sword), a pistol or SMG and a rifle. Currently, my character has the M9 Samurai Edge, the AK103 (AlexScorpion) and a Katana. I don't know which mod it came from (Doll House?) but it works wonders on Nightkin and ghouls. For armor, I've got a black Tactical outfit from TGs Armor Collection, a black beret w/ a skull badge from HDT and a backpack from BlackWolfBackpacks New Vegas. I also keep a gas mask for high-radiation areas. For meds and food and such, I carry 20 Purified Waters, with 75+ Stimpaks, 10 Super Stimpaks, and assorted food. I also have Rad-X and RadAway. And for everything else, I carry supplies to create stuff. After perks, my character can carry 350 lb at any time, and I never go under 150. As for "why" my character carries it, it's so I can kill things with weapons, keep myself from getting killed with meds and armor and create those things with misc items. I also have some backed up saves with my Hardcore character, but it's been so long since I've played with that one that I don't remember what gear it has. -
Nosisab, I slap you with horse armor: http://blog.al.com/techcetera/2009/04/oblivionhorsearmor.jpg

I didn't say Title, I said Name. As in, my real name, in real life. I win AGAIN!

I wasn't talking about hearing the noises in the video. We already know those noises were made up. And I know the noises sound like trumpets. I wasn't referring to how the bee sounds, I was referring to the nature of the sound. Also, other noises I've heard before small earthquakes are booms and somewhat of a short, sharp squeak.
-
I'm with the very small group that believes these noises are real but the videos are fake. I have heard these noises, but they're not nearly as intense as they are in the video. In reality, they're somewhat like a bee hovering beside your head, just louder. I live in a spot in Ohio that has small earthquakes sometimes, and I hear these noises before the second part of the earthquake (vibrations) starts. These noises are called P-Waves, and are audible but are too subtle to be felt. The vibrations that you feel are the S-Waves, which occur after the P-Waves, but can't be heard. This is just speculation as far as evidence goes, but it's a little too early to call these noises signs of the "end-times". The planet has always been seismically active, and as far as I'm concerned, they're nothing more than noises associated with natural phenomena. Although it would be awesome if it was revealed that it was really Cthulhu. Also, War of the Worlds (the remake with Tom Cruise) is on TV. Why do those noises in the videos sound so much like the tripods?
