  1. Don't forget that the social net to field the hosts of losers of the competition is the product of early socialism, its perhaps only but true advantage. Welfare and education for all overshadows thus in a positive sense all political systems since the early 20th century and all culture circles and their organisations of the 21st. The thread title is imo missleading, for it is the old Ptolemaic worldview of history, focused on the genuinely West-European and now Western culture - the minor part of the whole... and the whole turns out to be a 'revenge of God' Democracy in the Western understanding of the term won't work in: - Islamic culture - Sino-culture - Hindu culture and perhaps not even in the South-American culture. The isolated Japanese culture is a thing of its own, as it always was. Moreover, the age of communism is over since the breakdown of the Sovjet Union, and history will see no medium-term remake. Feudalism is history, not to be confused with Islamic patriarchalism or authoritarianism and the preference of the collective over the individual as it is the case in Sino-culture. The question is not 'what do we want?' but 'who are we?' and 'who are they that are not we?' A cultural, not a mere political thread.
  2. I'd hardly expect a 'Chinese man in the Moon'. Teflon is btw not the product of a voyage to the moon, but the consequent use of an earlier discovery from 1938 for a successful reentry into the atmosphere, thus reflecting orbital aerospace. Though I guess since Amstrong' s Hollywood-style step the age of expensive manned long range space exploration (the modern conquista for the sake of a national or political glory) is over, the time of crisis management at home has come - this includes the orbit and will consume all our financial and technological capabilities. You won't find any drinking water within range in space to satisfy the thirst of mankind. The threatening empty teflon-coated cup is awaiting us ...
  3. I have not yet seen hypotheses in practice - ummh, they're always just theoretical !
  4. What about re-terraforming Terra? Should be cheaper, more effective and doesn't lead astray, away from the actual problems. Chinese on the Moon are as good as a burger restaurant on Mars - totally useless humbug.
  5. The six dimensions that are for now necessary to understand the new physical phenomenons (guess this is an ongoing process with n dimensions in the end) are relating to particles that to are too small to be of any use for our understanding of tangible existence, we just need four dimensions to be happy. What's beyond doesn't make you happier, nor wiser cos already the fifth is an extrapolation out of the known four - a mathematical construction. If there are really more than this is hard to tell, for a two-dimensional being cannot experience height, thus it will live in a flat world no matter how round it is for a three-dimensional being. We're thus talking about 'auxiliary constructions' beyond our empirical life, of value today, but perhaps already obsolete tomorrow.
  6. Avoid subliminal ad hominem, my friend. You still haven't understood my question. It deals with the situation in the USA - the stage and risks of public amarment (last but not least for the Obama administration) - and not in court in case of violence. Don't pussyfoot around, cos that's a waste of time for the reader. http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_unknownauthor_lady.gif
  7. You haven't answered a simple question that relates to the US and not to 'Carlos Marighela in Brazil' or somethin... I repeat: That has led to what (in the USA of today) ? http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_unknownauthor_lady.gif The Ultimate Face
  8. We're no decision makers to make anything official in a networked system that has no office at all and that knows of merely one consensual 'commandment' - the prohibition of the argumentum ad hominem. Moreover, the international forums and lists are just a facet in the game. Still the national counterparts play an important role (to discuss about tulips I need no international list...) - so it is almost impossible to communicate e.g. on German TES forums in a foreign (colored) language, either you'll find yourself in a small talk greetings niche or you remain outsider - alien due to your strange 'German'. Guess we're the generation on the linguistic edge. The next one knows more and everything much better. http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_unknownauthor_lady.gif לילית
  9. ,,, and that has led to what? http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_unknownauthor_lady.gif The Ultimate Face
  10. That's hardly ironically, but psychologically to be understood. We feel ourselves as being 'alone in the dark'... and out of the fear it rises: the intense interest, the chimera creating irritating hope, fascinating and repulsive at the same time... the alien magnetism http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_unknownauthor_lady.gif The Ultimate Face
  11. That someone is probably not yet born - the field is simply too complex and enwrought with old imagery and symbolism we don't fully understand any longer; moreover, such an interdisciplinary research would presuppose the ability of the scholar to put aside his own religious (or atheistic) preconception a priori to simulate the ancient authors and artists, to understand their "alien" thoughts. Real roleplaying of unknown historical figures and their works is by far more difficult as it might seem to us who we play virtual roleplaying games after a given concept, a given script... http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_unknownauthor_lady.gif The Ultimate Face
  12. The modern man as the first who has ever dug out a dinosaur skeleton... Don't even think about it! Please. Moreover, there's a clear connection drawn by the ancient Hebrews in Egypt (or under Egyptian dominon) between the sea serpent, the Leviathan and the constellation of Draconis/Dragon (likewise present in the later Kabbalah) - in those days the polar star (Alpha-Draconis), thus all-important pointer for all sorts of land and sea travel and background of worldwide dragon tales, always in connection with bones found in the ground. No bones, no myth. On the contrary, angels are more difficult to understand. In Hebrew it just means messenger, messenger between people on the ground and god in the heavens, beyond the sky. Now, to bypass the enormous distance one has to imitate the birds in the sky first, the flight, there is no popular alternative... except a later one - the Merkabah (throne chariot/'living creature') mysticism in the Babylonian colored Book of Ezekiel and elsewhere in the Old Testament, juncture to the four-wing female geniuses and mixed beings in the mythology of Assur and Babylon. In the end you're perhaps familiar with Hebrew and cuneiform... but that's already all. The rest remains what it was before: Arguments from silence, interesting speculations without any practical value of benefit. Sad, but true! http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_unknownauthor_lady.gif The Ultimate Face
  13. Don't play hero in Homer Simpson fashion when somebody has already "blown a large hole in the door" (the rocket launcher mentioned above?) - cos that sounds like soap opera. And you'll indeed end up in Guantanamo if you have a beard, a rocket launcher, a secret canabis lair (peace, brother!) and a shredded neighbor at the doorstep (oops!). BTW Hippie subculture and private militarism, that's already an oxymoron at its best, for one has to make a strange metamorphosis first, the shift from the former student Jeckyll to the suspect Mr. Hyde  http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_unknownauthor_lady.gif The Ultimate Face
  14. More likely HIV, the human immunodeficiency virus, is a (perhaps even artificially created) high mutagenic half-brother of the HEV virus among pigs, the pathogen of the known Encephalomyelitis. Of course, a lot of things are, at least theoretically possible, but without any evidence these are pure arguments from silence. And as it is with the flight of blowball seeds we'd have to deal with chaos theory. http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_unknownauthor_lady.gif
  15. Sounds almost like a fetish to me... and a crying widow comes into my mind. Lo - when you've finally realized the guy at you doorstep as "a heavily armed robber" it's, as a rule, already too late to produce your gas pistol. Why? Well that guy would probably have already the unlocked machine gun at the ready before you've opened the door... unaware... To nullify the robber problem simply by opening the door always with an unlocked rocket launcher in your hands would directly lead you to Guantanamo or somethin, I guess. Peace, bearded brother :teehee: http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_unknownauthor_lady.gif
  16. No, none at all. Like many other hypothesis about life, this earth, this univers, nobody holds any evidence. Only speculations. Oh - how true! We call it human nature. http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_unknownauthor_lady.gif The Ultimate Face
  17. Even if the collision effect of dead material is true for the eathly evolution a such, for it always had influenced the parameters for life on earth, like the climate, you seem to imply life in the particles - the directed or undirected panspermia, right? Any proof for the hypothesis?
  18. That's a known argument made by Ortega y Gasset in the 2nd decade of the 20th c. CE, but the absolute number of philosophers that had to speak German at a certain time due a professional literature written in German has never ever entered into an equation similar or equal to the one we're are dealing with - if you'd like to understand the Holy Bible in a professional way it is even today still necessary to learn Hebrew and Greek first. Both wonderful examples are beside the point, I think. http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_unknownauthor_lady.gif
  19. Basic l33t is just replacing vowels with numbers and I guess the users of the code that follow a kind of group pressure aren't even aware of that. What I've meant is the linguistic bouillabaisse, to use an euphemism.
  20. There's a decisive difference between closed inner-cultural and networked international interactions. It makes less sense to try to trade with a Chinese supplier from the steppe hinterland in Hebrew - this would end up in helpless gestures. That's why a linguistic consensus sometimes is needed and sometimes it is not. For the moment we have such an international consensus - the English. Though it could be Mandarin in a few generations as well, one has to be distinctly aware of this as a linguistic phenomenon in progress, always dominated by the leading country of a commercial and military circle. Today it is a globalized, worldwide circle and the leading country are the USA - so learn their language not to become segregated from the show. In ancient days it was, on a smaller scale, Latin by the same reasons. On the other hand we see a virulent degeneration of culture language as such, the ability to speak and to write the mother tongue without a bunch of errors. The international consensus with the internet as catalyst seemingly has a negative influence on culture language - unreadable slang appears that sometimes even hurts the ears, the horror of all teachers and parents, cos they don't understand the young generation anymore, at least not really. Food for thought. http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_unknownauthor_lady.gif
  21. First of all, GPG's Dungeon Siege was not only an RPG but an MOPRG; we've played it online on Zonematch from 2002 on with up to eight folks plus buyable packmule baggage train (introduced in MP by me), preferably different orientated and equipped chars to play different roles. Tactics was hack & slash, whereby the question who would win was always heavily dependent on the chosen Siegelet and its AI. With the Siegelet Steelsworld and its Bone Warriors we'd reached an AI stage high enough to kill all high-level players that had not yet learned to play in a team. That was utterly real... DS was a good game, worth a try, whereas its successor DS-II never emerged from behind the shadow of the original. Long time passing. On the contrary, NWN was something for Mom, Auntie Marie and the rest of the coffee hour cos it had no fire at all. http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_unknownauthor_lady.gif The Ultimate Face
  22. [OT] Your delightful common sense might perhaps develop a quantum sense of humor, sometimes a very useful mechanism to avoid premature wrinkling :teehee: [/OT] http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_unknownauthor_lady.gif The Ultimate Face
  23. Which considerably lowers the chance to get killed in a heroic shootout for the 5 Euros in your pockets, or even more worse - to kill an innocent by night from sheer fear and only then asking "Who's there?" After having spent my youth in Israel I know already that next to the suicide bomber the fearful one that cries for a gun is probably the most dangerous person on earth when armed, for his latent advance towards overreaction when he feels pressured (and all alone) is an incalculable, thus inacceptable risk for the society. And those who need a gun merely as pill for their virility I have to say, from woman to man: That doesn't work... 24. You seem to have learned absolutely nothing from the bloody history on European ground, being unaware of the new phenomenon of networked globalization. Guess we have to let the eternal unwilling people go when it comes to a final decision for a construct all nationalists are afraid of. An exodus is not that new...
  25. A United States of Europe will occur, cos you have no (peaceful) alternative at all, neither economically nor strategically. And - I do not see that European culture would differ from each other for more than a yota. Moreover, the German nationalistic facet, to pick up your argument, is as old as the event in the Frankfurt Paul's Cathedral, some 160 years or just five generations. That's not enough to fill an egg cup with special requests from the past, the dark age. You know the past, guess so.
