finigin - did you patch Oblivion to the latest version before putting Nehrim on? There should be a comprehensive install guide with the download, and I'm pretty sure that was in there (not at home at the moment so can't check).
Also, if you want to run Oblivion AND Nehrim, there's a utility called mTES4 on the nexus - it automates switching between oblivion clones. A little buggy at the moment, but I've found it very useful.
-
@Skylajin - no, but it can help once you start to lose track of what mods you have applied - OBMM keeps track of the omods you put in, but nothing keeps track of the "drag it to the data folder" installs.
Comment on the original posted instructions - update the "Vista only" bit about the Game folder to include Windows 7 too.

AWLS and Illumination Within Revived both do effectively the same job, but in slightly different ways. Illumination Within has a higher performance hit, though both are very slight on most modern rigs. AWLS adds smoke to chimneys as well which is a nice touch, however I believe Illumination Within does some stuff with shutters where fitted. Unless one specifically clashes with or enhances another mod, I would suggest they are much of a muchness - just pick the one you like best.

There are a few anomolies in armor penetration in real life which may take consideration. Cloth-based armor such as quilted stuff is surprisingly good against arrows, as the multi-layering acts a little like a kevlar flak jacket, and snnarls up the arrowhead - that's one reason oriental armour haad a quilted silk underpadding.
Re the "silver" arrows and steel plate - I mentally treat "silver" as "high-chrome-steel" and assume it's a slang term used by in-game smiths to protect their methodology.
There also ought to be a chance with the tougher armors that the arrow bounces off, especially at increased range - it IS a curved surface after all. A pity the game engine can't tell you WHICH bit of the body gets hit - a head shot should kill outright for instance.

Here is a good, if not 100% up-to-date, guide to making Oblivion prettier. Walks you througfh step-by-step - and worked for me before i started tinkering.

You probably need to edit the Oblivion.ini in your documents folder - Oblivion_default.ini only works for the first time you run the game, AFAIK.

That's excellent news! With Drake's mod you can also swap upper body shapes on the females to a different cupsize variant, and assign matching clothing to Argonians only. If Sentex manages the same, that'll be wonderful. <bookmarks link>
They're not quite as effective as the "beasty foots" version someone was workling on, but they ARE much more clothing compatible. Add Growlf''s body resizing mod to give a tiptoe stance as if in heels and it might work even better <ponders>
-
Hi slygothmog - thanks - now all I have to do is understand your scripting <reaches for assorted tutorials>
-
I was more impressed by the clothing movement - the guy looks to have managed some half-way workable clothing physics in Oblivion. Now THAT's a real boost to animation :D
-
I am trying some (as I thought) very basic scripting - editing a npc to change clothing when they are due to sleep, and again when they dress.
Stage (1) - change into / out of sleepwear
Stage (2) - select a random daywear outfit from those suitable or a list of possibles.
Any hints? I can't even work out how to do stage 1

ive searched for for ever and cant find what im looking for, im looking for an easy to use and free mesh/texture editor so that i can make some armors and weapons for the game, i have come up with a great easy way to create an automail arm like the one from full metal alchemist, but i need the editor, any feedback would b awsum
Paint.net handles dds files, and is free.
Nifskope for the .nif files is also free.
Beyond that, I know nothing.

Hi Shadowblade,
Lots of mods out there in those areas. Thry'll come in all shapes and sizes, and with different install methods. However, if you want the option of trying and removing stuff if you don't like it, there are a few utilities you'll also need:
Oblivion Mod Manager (OBMM for short).
Wrye Bash (which will also require you to install Python - just follow the readme step-by-step)..
Better Cblivion Sorting Software (BOSS).
The rule is, that if you install two mods that affect the same thing, the last one installed gets to do the job, even if it didn't overwrite the previous one - the tools above can help you solve that to some extent.
Firstly, install the latest official patch, and the unofficial patches to the main file, Shivering Isles, and the DLC plugins.
Graphical Mods: Environmental: I use Qarl's Texture Pack 3 for improved graphics generally, with assorted expansions to cover SI and Better cities. I use All Weather for the weather (funny, that), and a mod to light up windows at night, plus Real Lights to light interiors more realistically.
Graphical Mods: People: Tamreil NPCs Revived gives "nicer" faces to the NPCs.
Graphical Mods: Body: I installed the HGEC body, and matching clothes, and the BBB version for ...erm...interesting chest animations. Roberts Male Body is good for the male npcs
Graphical + mods: Character generation: I use the Race Rebalancing Project - it seems a little more compatible with other mods than Beautiful People.
Worldspace: I use Better Cities and Unique Landscapes, plus a few odd patches to go with quest mods.
Animations: DMC Stylish is recommended by others, I've not yet tried it. I have installed Sensual walks for NPCs so all the females have a nice wiggle :).

I tend to keep all of my downloads on the hard drive for just such an event. There's a MMM Install script on the Nexus by theNiceGuy I think - it automates the MMM install as an OMOD and makes it work well. He's also done ones for FCOM and LAME, possibly more. If you're on Win7, and haven't alredy done so, install the game to c:\Games\ not c:\Program Files\ - it stops the OS having a fit every time you update a file.
-
Link for uFCOM - I knew it was there, just took a little finding - Unofficial FCOM OMOD

What sort of changes are you after? An "Angel"-style set of forehead modifications? Red dripping fangs? Maybe a couple of links to pictures of the kind of effect you like would help.

A couple of thoughts...
Firstly - there's a mod that shuts the darn merchants up someplace - that may save SOME of your sanity :whistling:
If you are going to rework the trading to add realism, you may need to consider building in an annoyance factor - if someone came to me and insisted on selling 150 arrows, all identical, at 1 gold each, as 150 separate transactions, guess how my disposition would be at the end of trading. :wallbash:
Groups of like objects should probably count as one transaction, i.e. three identical chain mail greaves should sell as one transaction, for one entry on the mercantile alteration. However, if they are at different levels of repair, each would need assessing separately so that'd be three transactions.
Personally I find the whole trading system VERY cumbersome - much preferred the Morrowind "stack 'em up and sell 'em all" approach, but something which still dynamically adjusted your income / expenditure as your mercantile rating changed would be excellent.

Falanu Hlaalu. She has the same issue as Thamriel. Falanu is very clearly a female Dunmer, yet multiple NPCs refer to her as "he" or "him". My thinking is that Falanu is a male Dunmer trapped in a female body because one of Ancotar's experiments went wrong. Again.
I'd never noticed this one, but then I applied the unofficial patch first time I played and it fixed the bug, S/he has an interesting back tale it seems - an interest in necrophilia? That's going to end up VERY adult. I guess people who play kinky, evil aligned types could have "fun" with that mod, but equally sure it'd be something not to put on the Nexus. Or does having a vampire lover count as necrophilia? That might be more interesting and less ...er...bannable.
-
@whalecakes - because I wouldn't know where to start. Every mod tutorial I've seen hits jargon about three words in and loses me.
-
There's one possible hiccup with the separate deck approach - the Jeffries Tubes. I guess you could make the access hatches as doors and run them as a separate model - like the sewer system in the imperial city.
-
I have, like many people, umpteen hundred OMODs lurking on my system. Everyone keeps extolling the virtues of a BAIN installer, but the same group of everyones seem remarkably quiet on the practicalities of taking something that is currently an OMOD, and converting it into a BAIN install.
Has anyone written a decent easy-to-follow walk-through? (that probably rules out many people who use Linux - when I once asked where to find man pages I was told to read the man page on man pages :wallbash: ).
If no-one has YET written one, but is willing to try, I'm happy to act as a guinea pig for the process - because if *I* can follow the guide, I think almost ANYONE can.

Update:
It seems that Argonians, at least, are covered pretty well - Drake the Dragon's been busy. a combination of his Argonian Beautification mod and his Scripted Argonian Feet mod, plus a bit of jiggery-pokery with a HGEC AA-cup body and textures, and you get a very much improved Argonian while still keeping the humans and elves looking mamallian
Kudos to Drake the Dragon - now, who is going to pick up JazzJR's Khajiit Beast Foots mod and turn itinto something as useable as Drake's offering?

I've been looking at the various NPCs in Oblivion, and it occurs to me that many of them have the potential to lead into mods regarding their back stories.
I've already posted a proposal for a mod covering Elragail and Thamriel (see the Mod Requests thread), but i was wondering which other NPCs people felt had a gap in their backstory - how did they get to where they are and what implications this could have. A series of mods to fill in these stories would hopefully then result, with all of us reaping the benefits of a more complex and immersive storyline.
So - please outline the characters you want more information about, and any suggestions to what their story MIGHT be - hopefully we can discuss them and come up with some good ideas.

In a nutshell, you need to use BOSS to sort your loading order, probably OBMM to perform archive invalidation, and possibly Wrye Bash to persuade things to play nice together.
All three programs are available through the Nexus, and I suggest starting with BOSS. Read the Readme, install it correctly, run it, and your files will be sorted into a probably optimised load order.
If you still have the problem then, download and install OBMM (Oblivion Mod Manager), and run archive invalidation. Again, the readme file is your friend.
You don't list other potentially useful stuff like which version of Oblivion, whether you have applied any / all of the update patches, whether you have any other mods installed, etc. The information you gave is like ringing a garage and saying "I put in Shell petrol and my car won't start" without telling the it';s a diesel engine car - more information leads to a better possible diagnosis. The Steam and Direct-to-Drive versions of Oblivion have their own quirks where mods are concerned, for instance, and may take an expert to advise you how to fix stuff or even whether it's possible.

Came with the GOTY edition, so i just installed it from the get-go. No worries about hunting down the separate patch, and it's never caused any problems.
