This is the problem with mod thieves (and by extension to those that support them). NO LEGIT MOD AUTHOR WILL INTENTIONALLY BRICK YOUR MACHINE...no, not even DD. However, thieves have no ethics and who knows what code some random jerk will put in a stolen mod? Ever hear of viruses and trojans in pirated torrents? THIS is the danger, people. This is also why it's a really good thing that Bethesda is crosslinking your bethnet account with Steam. I only hope they have the nadgers to actually use the hammer.

Contraptions- how did Beth go so wrong

I still can't believe Bethesda didn't include a soft-shoe dance routine for deathclaws. -
Unbelievably annoying Lighting bug after update.
Deleted3507349User replied to Survivor301's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
I encountered something similar with plasma grenades. They would detonate and a solid black mass would move away. This was with the previous version of FO though, haven't tried them with the latest update. -
I feel really silly for not knowing this, but... are you referring to Steam's Big Picture Mode? If so, I think we're referring to the same setting. That was a poor explanation on my part, I've updated the post to try to explain better so that people don't think they'll always have to wait a day for an update to F4SE if they're not accustom to how this cycle works. Thanks! Yup. BPM=Big Picture Mode. The 'do not keep up to date' option doesn't exist in the standard desktop client afaik.

Another way is to open up BPM and in the update settings for the game select 'Do Not Automatically Update'. It pretty much works. What it does is notify that an update is scheduled, giving you time to pause the update, and it will stay paused until you unpause it. Naturally, that only works if you use the BPM client. Of course, running Steam in offline mode works like a charm

Vaporware DRM - Developer discussion
Deleted3507349User replied to Jeoshua's topic in Fallout 4's Creation Kit and Modders
The only form of DRM that I would support would be a message popup. Really though, it's mostly a waste of time because such things are a simple matter to strip out. Seems to me the best thing you can do is upload your stuff here to the Nexus and use the date/time stamp as a copyright. Bear in mind that your mod isn't visible until you release it. -
Can 'settlements' with no settlers get attacked?
Deleted3507349User replied to Thicketford's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Planting is a waste of time without settlers assigned to them. They won't produce that way. Water production doesn't need to be tended, so those are fine. Seems to be that any settlement with resources can get attacked. Allegedly, if your defense is higher than water+food it will lessen the chance...but I ain't necessarily convinced. The Random Number God has a lot to say about what happens. -
Amen It seems they might be in need of your help and blessing DD. If you need inspiration you can always look up Shadmans Vault Meat artwork. Just don't get caught by your wife. Also since it's your thread DD, you should have put 18+ tag on it from the very beginning. We all know how it always ends. Someone clearly making bad assumptions about my wife. Have you met me? Now take a guess as to how bloody kinky someone who pressured ME of all people to get married is. Meh, she probably just knows where the bodies are buried.

I got a feeling you're physic. Honestly, yeah the stealing is an issue. But the sort of funny part? I put my mod on beth this morning, and everyone who's commented has been very nice and friendly. Ok yes I'm totally avoiding the forms on beth.net cuz reasons I've explained in other threads, but so far uploading to beth for xbox has been a positive experience. Though some may disagree from experience. Same here. It's only a minority of users that are causing trouble. My rage is directed at Bethesda, and justifiably so. After the BS of the past FIVE YEARS from Bethesdimax, I'm about through with 'em. *November 2011: Skyrim and all it's DLC are released with a 30-day Xbox exclusivity. *Spring 2015: Bethesda springs paid mods with no warning, and with a system no better than the current craptastic ...thing. *November 2015: Fallout 4 is released, BUT those who bought a hard copy still had to download 80% of the game anyway. *Today: Bethesda takes a huge steaming dump on mod authors as a group, and by extension the users of those mods as well.

I personally have zero grudges against any group, it's purely on an individual basis...except for the group that calls themselves 'Bethesda Softworks'. THEY are the ones ultimately responsible for allowing this to get out of control.

Nah...just figure out a way to get him to follow Preston around all the time instead.

Dead simple question: Bethesda or Nexus?
Deleted3507349User replied to cattywampus4's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Before Bethsoft launched their own service Steam was the "official" source for mods. They're so loved by the modding community! Seriously, the third-party interactions with Bethesda games are what keep them alive, as mentioned above. Even if Bethsoft wanted to take a 'what have you done for me lately' approach to something like Nexus, the answer is 'a whole hell of a lot, actually.' There's no real benefit to limiting yourself, as a mod publisher, to Bethesda's platform just based on the vague notion that they made the game to begin with. If anything, that's more of a reason to be part of a third-party platform to decentralize the entire process and keep the whole machine running smoothly if one of the services decides to do something profoundly stupid. Looking at you, Steam. So back to the original point of this whole mess: use everything. Both as a player and as a developer. Take a little from every front and contribute to them all in return. We're talking Nexus, Steam and Bethesda not the Institute, Brotherhood and Railroad. We can, in fact, have everything we want here and benefit the entire process by doing so. I'm a noob here, and I'll defer to you about the past. I was involved in modding from a long ago hex editing perspective. When the companies didn't care or couldn't do much about it. To submitting items to the companies third party process for real world money, still get the checks, but the company and system are a debacle (not steam). With a pretty well split but leaning 'pitch forky' community. While I do agree with pretty much all you say. I've had decent interactions on Beth.net and using the CK (hey it's buggy as heck but I've worked it out to begin with). And at this point in my online modding experience I guess I want to hunker down in the company provided home base (be it leaky for now or not) rather than get invested in a community at odds with the 'mother company/devs'. ...except that communities like the Nexus ARE the mother's and fathers of modding. We've been doing it longer and better. -
