  1. How is that going to compete with Nexus if the focus is naughty stuff? lol I think the idea is a separate site. There is an interesting thread going on over there....
  2. Essentially, someone that has existing infrastructure to support the volume that nexus does. A central repository for game mods. Or can get it up and running quickly enough to meet the current deadline.... but, even if that happens, I seriously doubt we are going to see an exodus of enough mod authors to even come close to influencing the decisions that have already come down the pike. Sure, some folks may upload subsequent mods to an alternative site, but, Nexus will still likely retain the bulk of uploads.
  3. Now that is probably accurate. Nexus can essentially do whatever they want, and they will still have content to distribute. Even if there was a viable alternative.
  4. No mods...no site. No employees...no site. No Members...no money...no staff...no site. You are simply playing word games. This site started out as a mod hosting site with NO employees. Just the owner, and some volunteers. Mods made this site, mods are what this site is all about, without mods, this site has no reason to exist. Mod authors are the ones creating content that this site REQUIRES to continue to exist. If Nexus alienates their content creators, where are they going to get their new content, to keep people coming here?
  5. I would be curious to see how many of those 135K authors are even still active. Judging by the reaction I saw in GMAD, a significant portion of them were not happy with this change. Will it prompt them to pull their mods? No idea. Of course, we have no real way to track just how many actually do leave. Staff does though. I really don't see them making that information public though.
  6. It's my understanding, that the list maker, will also be able to include things like a 'bashed patch', etc. In order for things to play nice. Of course, just like mods, there are going to be lists that have issues, and lists that are really good. And everything in between. It will be up to users to police which are which. As always, read the comments/bug reports before downloading. :D
  7. If it weren't for mod authors, this site wouldn't exist. Seems kinda idiotic to me to alienate the very people you depend on for your existence..... That said, there were multiple proposals in the GMAD forums, that would have worked perfectly, and everyone would have been at least OK with it, if not precisely happy. But, Nexus never even bothered to talk to mod authors about it. They just made a unilateral decision, and told mod authors, "This is it, comply, or leave." (You shall be assimilated......)
  8. And that is a large part of the problem. Nexus went to great lengths to respect mod authors for quite some time, and became the dominant download site for a fair few games. (most notably, beth games) Most of the other major download sites went by the wayside years ago. There are a collection of smaller mod sites out there, but, nothing even near approaching the scale of Nexus. So, there simply aren't a lot of alternatives out there, that have the good reputation that Nexus USED to have...... With the moves they have been making recently, there is zero reason to trust Nexus any longer. Their actions have blown that right out of the water.
  9. So, Steam made a choice to say "Here are collections. You have no reason to think they might be reliable. Have fun." Whereas Nexus is prioritizing reliability and extra features as BigBizKit clarified. Mod Authors have no ability to control whether their mods appear in any other type of collection. You're asking Nexus to make their system noticeably worse than the other options. It would be up to the collection curator to make sure their collection was up to date. Just like it is a mod authors responsibility to make sure their mods are up to date, and function properly with the current version of the game.
  10. I would wonder if anyone that wasn't actually contributing to a mod, was ever added to the mod, to grant someone access/perks.... If I had to hazard a guess, I would say "no". And yes, this looks a LOT like a 'purge'......
  11. Having a staff of seventeen people to pay each week is a factor as well. Nexus put two years of work into this plan based on a survey done in 2019. They handled things badly now, but that's a big investment to toss aside. They wouldn't have had to. All they would have had to do was ask mod authors their views, and consider what was said. Just a simple discussion. End Of Problem, before it even became a problem. The survey that was done was about collections, nothing was mentioned about Nexus taking what amounts to ownership of authors mods in order for it to 'work'. And Nexus is the ONLY site that has taken that step. Steam has had collections for quite some time, and if mods disappear, it is up to the list curator to deal with it. They did not prioritize collection authors over the authors of the content those collections couldn't exist without. In my opinion..... This could not have been handled any worse. Nexus well and truly dropped the ball here....
  12. I don't see an opt-out option ever being a thing. That would kinda defeat the purpose. ALL of this could have been avoided if mod authors had simply been consulted about pending changes.
  13. Considering the fact you lambasted several users in the GMAD forums for their views and opinions recently, you'll know some of them are certainly no angels and that we most definitely need to code our systems to not be exploited, as we always have. :D Yeah, I do have a tendency to be a bit outspoken.
  14. Yeah, me either. I have absolutely no idea what changed that brought this all on....... This used to be an author friendly site. Not any more. It almost seems author hostile...... To me, it certainly feels that way.
  15. I feel we're going in circles here. I've already told you that they never did - and indeed, allowing it would be a very EASY way of giving anyone ad-free access to the site and access to the other mod author perks (like the forums). For example, anyone with a file with more than 1,000 unique downloads could add any other user to their file page and bam, they're now in the mod author group. That's a massive exploit. We'd have never coded the script to allow that, nor will we now. So to clarify, nothing has changed in that regard and nor will it. Ah. I see. I am sure the mod authors (of which I don't seem to be one any more....) will just love the vote of confidence that you feel it necessary to prevent them from such an exploit. They are notoriously nefarious characters after all..... Well, your site, your rules. Something that has become painfully obvious of late.
  16. We're aiming for once a day (it has already run today, hence this influx of posts from people who have lost access). It takes about 40 minutes to run and is a lot more resource intensive than it used to be, so we don't want to run it more often than that. Truth be told, I have no idea. User activity logging didn't cover too many things up until about 2017 so I can't go back and see if, at some point in the past decade, you did have a mod uploaded that you cannot remember that would have granted you access. So you're going to have to remain as in the dark as we are. So, co-authors aren't going to count as authors any more? Or folks that are caretakers/whatever of mods? Why not?? I'm guessing it's what Dark said here. My experience before DP was even implemented. If you got access around the time DP was implemented, or after that time, this would explain it. I have had access to the GMAD forums LONG before DP was even a twinkle in Dark0ne's eye. :)
  17. You're seemingly admitting you don't know for sure, and I've told you our script did not count download stats for team members, only the original uploader, so there's been no change other than fixing the script to ensure it counts downloads correctly. Thank you. This correlates with what I have said. So am I simply an outlier?? Or did something change in years between when I was added as a co-author, and NaiRae was??? I do appreciate you taking the time to answer personally. :D
  18. As far as I'm aware, we never counted co-author/team members and only counted the stats for the file uploader. Certainly, nothing in the previous script accounted for people in the "team" rather than just the original uploader. Thus, anyone in the mod author group would have had published mods, under their own name, at some point in the past. The issue was that the script was broken and no longer correctly accounting for mods being removed or hidden. Indeed, it would be a massive loophole if anyone could get mod author perks simply by getting someone to add them to the "team" on one of their mods. Hhhmmm..... Any mods that I may have uploaded here in the past, should still be here..... I don't recall ever deleting anything, and I haven't really uploaded that many mods here in any event. I was co-author with Crossbows of cyrodiil for a time, but, I don't think that mod ever got me access to GMAD..... Those forums showed up when Axeman (Smoke) added me as an 'admin' (for lack of a better word) to Advanced Magecraft. I remember being surprised when a couple new forums showed up on my list. So, apparently, the script DID recognize co-authors/admins/whatever at one time...... Why the change?
  19. Yeah, I agree. And it saddens me greatly to see this happening. This could have been handled much better, and 99% of the drama associated with it would have been avoided. I have no idea what staff is thinking at this point, but, I can't say I care for the direction NexusMods is going. I also don't expect this thread to last very long......
  20. I literally just explained how it got noticed and how the previous script was out-of-date meaning plenty of users had the mod author perks despite no longer meeting the criteria. We were already updating the script to remove the perks for those users leaving us after the latest announcement and thus, anyone who shouldn't have had the perks before has now been removed as part of the update to the script which is removing the authors who recently left. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ SO what was the reasoning behind removing those 'perks' from co-authors?
  21. Yeah. Ok. So, a system that has been in place for better than ten years, suddenly gets an update? You will pardon me if I find the timing of that somewhat suspicious. I have seen a LOT of changes coming about here in the last couple weeks, and none of them seem to be in line with what was once the stated goal of NexusMods, protecting mod authors rights. That seems to have fallen by the wayside recently, and suddenly, a fair few folks that have had access to the GMAD forum, now suddenly don't. Coincidence? I hardly think so. So, for those of us that are responsible for mods, (and in some cases, the ONLY person looking after them) that have contributed to those mods, and supported them for years, now no longer qualify as "Mod Authors" in Nexus view??
  22. Wholeheartedly concur. Given Nexus behavior of late though, I am not going to hold my breath.
  23. Wonder how many folks just lost access.... Can't say I think this is a confidence inspiring move......
