  1. I already have a mod which adds a bunch of camouflage schemes to the various power armor pieces. But I have never been very happy with it for a couple of reasons. The biggest reason is that the helmet has to have it's own Diffuse Texture because of the eyes. What I want to be able to do is apply the eyes as decals over the same Diffuse Texture used by the arms, legs and torso. This would literally cut the size of the mod in half. Unfortunately, the helmets do not have the ability to accept decals. I have already establish that the NIF has the relationship between the helmets and the various Material and Texture files which are applied. I also followed the implementation from the torso (which does accept decals) to modify a helmet NIF. But nothing works and now the game loops attempting to initialize and it takes the old three finger salute to get it to stop. At this point, I have bruised my forehead on the wall of my own ignorance one time too many and I am looking for help. I just know that it is something really simple, but my lack of good documentation is limiting me. So NifSkope experts, here is a chance to shine and save my sanity to boot.
  2. I will rise to defend one point that has been raised. As a mod author, I have a responsibility for every mod I release. That responsibility includes the requirement that I fix or withdraw my mod if it is broken and that I update or withdraw my mod if the underlying game technologies change and my mod stops working. However, am not required to "fix" a mod which has been labeled 'broken' simply because a user doesn't like some aspect of my mod. Buyers remorse does not make my mod broken.
  3. I have only had one mod "mess" my game, and that was because there was a conflict between two mods. I learned to use xEdit to find those conflicts. Other than that, never. The risk to damaging you computer is statistically indistinguishable from zero. I will not say it can't happen, but it hasn't yet. Making mods is easier than most think and harder too. Some of the basic stuff like tweaking weapons and armor is relatively easy. Some of the more advanced stuff (scripting, 3D modeling, etc) is more challenging. Start small and take baby steps. But do not be afraid as everything can be undone. As for applications, here are the few I use currently; The CK (GECK) from Bethesda which requires a Bethesda.net ID to download via their desktop app. Logon to Bethesda.net and click on the Launcher tab on the upper right to download their desktop app. Then login to Behtesda.net via the app and download the CK.The xEdit application from zaliv et al. There is a mod page here for the FO4Edit version. B.A.E. - Bethesda Archive Extractor by jonwd7. This tool allows for the extraction of data from Behtesda's BA2 Files. Material Editor by ousnius which allows for the creation and editing of the BGSM and BGEM.NotePad++. Bethesda has a plugin which helps with the formatting when editing Papyrus scripts. To show what is possible, in my signature below is a link to my FO4 Mods. All of them were created using only these tools. As far as guidance, there is a BUNCH of stuff out there on the internet. Just google to find what you want. Finally, If you have other questions, do not hesitate to ask as the people here are extremely helpful. Either post a question in the modding forum for the various games, or via PM to me and I will help where I can. Good luck, and welcome.
  4. If my memory serves, you don't get more quests from BoS or RR once the Institute is destroyed. But the vendors are still there, and if you did enough of the BoS and RR quest lines you can still buy the specialty items from Teagan and Tinker Tom. Do the DLC whenever you want. On my XBox play-through I needed to test a mod so I did Nuka World before ever going to see Nick.
  5. What a insanely subjective question. Different people will prefer different companions because they play differently. If you are a sniper, then having another ranged shooter like MacCready around is helpful. If you like smash and crush, then Strong is probably a better companion. If you want a whining, door opening, barking, wanders off to 'find something' dog which doubles as a pack brahman, then Dogmeat is the good choice. Best is relative.
  6. Arthur C. Clarke provides us with the probable answer. "A significantly advanced technology is indistinguishable from Magic". Who can say that the "magic" in the Elder Scrolls universe is not a simply a "significantly advanced technology"?
  7. By this, I take it that you disagree with the statement "Government is about a set of laws which allow disparate peoples and their beliefs to live together without killing each other". I made no value judgement about religion in general or any religion specifically. You are reading that into my comments and making some invalid assumptions based on your misinterpretation. I said "The over valuing of religious belief has too great an influence in political discussion". People over value their beliefs and under value other peoples beliefs. People are the problem, not religion itself. I quoted the only part of Nietzsche's philosophy that is germane to my point. Here again you are reading way too much into my comments and taking my thoughts in a completely wrong direction. But you sound good doing it. Well, Nietzsche's views in that statement meant more than just the statement itself. That's why I went there. I'm more concerned with his whole worldview. As for religion, sure, it can be detrimental in the way you say. I'm not going to disagree. But I don't think that's the current problem at all. The turbulence we're experiencing is mostly political and philosophical imo. It's hard to discuss this though without getting into specifics (either yours or my own) and I don't want to ruin the thread. edit: Actually, I'm gonna try to provide an example. I'm going all in here, come what may (Mods, please don't ban me.. just edit my post). Lets assume you mean religious differences has led to a clash between Christian and Islamic believers, and that the immigration policy for the current ruling party is just a "cover" for simple xenophobia. That's all just just "overvaluing one belief over another" as you say. I'll tell you why it's not as religious as you think. Because when it comes down to it, these two believe in similar things. And are both Abrahamic traditions from the Middle East. It has nothing to do with a religious clash, except in the most superficial sense. In fact, if Muslims ruled the whole country, these Christians would eventually welcome it. They are the ONLY ___ ONLY___ outsiders who could. No one else has a chance. It's been that way for over a thousand years, in areas where Christians got dominated. They are the only ones who thrive in it, besides the Muslims themselves. Everyone else is completely screwed. Christians only slightly screwed. The fact that modern leftists go on marches with Linda Sarsour and think she's their friend is hilarious. They'll be the first to go. The real reason there's a clash, in my view, is that the Right is more libertarian and individualistic and fears what Islam eventually will try to do. Although they could live under Sharia conditions, they don't WANT to. And they don't want others to. They want that to be a choice. They are more pluralistic than you give them credit for. It's why you haven't seen any of this drama when it comes to Buddhists or Hindus (BTW, I'm a half Asian with a Buddhist mom and white father, who's Christian. I'm living proof of this!). Lastly, the reasons why things are going bad is because the Left has lost all of their messaging (some of which was good) and just fall back on Identity Politics for everything. "That's racist!" Even I'm in danger of being called "Racist!" just for typing this, despite being half Asian/White and actually voting for Hillary (it's true). You can't even offer any dissent from the "Approved Message" without being turned into a monster of some kind these days. You want to defuse America? Take the microphone away from SJWs.. Their heart may be in the right place, but they are too hypersensitive for their own good. After rereading both your posts, it is now obvious that you have an agenda all your own and are using my comment as a launching platform. Well, I will state this as clearly and concisely as I can. Your comments have absolutely nothing to do with what I posted. It appears that you saw the word 'religious' and took of on a track all your own. Forty two to you.

  9. Except for one annoying little detail that keeps tickling the back of my mind. In America, the people are the government. It says so right here on the label.
  10. Just a few random thoughts on the topic at hand. The two major political parties in American politics have moved so far from the center that they can legitimately be named as extremist organizations. And the fact that you are thinking of a party just proves the point. The party you are not naming internally is the other extreme. The over valuing of religious belief has too great an influence in political discussion. Government is about a set of laws which allow disparate peoples and their beliefs to live together without killing each other. Nietzsche was right when it comes to governing, "God is dead". The branches of American government need to stop passing rules that improve their lot over those of the 'common man'. The salary, health care, retirement etc rules for those that are elected to the branches of American government are so far and above what they legislate for the people that those in government are literally living under a distinct set of laws. If you want to change political opinion, start with your own understanding. What is that old saw? "The more I know, the more I know I don't know". The parallel to this is "If you would change the thinking of others, start by thinking". People don't seem to hear very well if you scream at them. If you really want folks to listen, whisper. Your vocabulary shapes your thinking, and vice versa. 'Political Correctness' is about changing vocabulary and thinking. If people stop throwing words of hatred at each other, the words will eventually disappear from the lexicon along with the thinking they engender. 'Guns don't kill people'. Sound familiar. It's true. The continuation is 'People kill people'. That's half true. Ignorance, hate, fear, anger, jealousy; these are just some of the reasons that 'people kill people'. They are also the reasons that people treat each other shabbily and contemptuously. Cure the disease, and the symptoms will dissipate. Elmer's First Law of Politics: "When evil politicians are in power, they will do and say anything and everything they must to remain in power". First corollary to Elmer's First Law of Politics: "When evil politicians are not in power, they will do and say anything and everything they must to undermine the politicians currently in power". Second corollary to Elmer's First Law of Politics: "The politicians currently in power view the politicians currently not in power as evil.". Third corollary to Elmer's First Law of Politics: "The politicians currently not in power view the politicians currently in power as evil". Fourth corollary to Elmer's First Law of Politics: "Evil politicians don't think of themselves as evil". Fifth corollary to Elmer's First Law of Politics: "Politicians are evil".
  11. Pass along my 'Semper Fi' to your friend.
  12. Why should I run a Dragonborn follower mod? I'm the Dragonborn an' I don' want no steenkin' competition! Because you need a distraction when the dragons attack. Or maybe the companion needs a distraction. Who knows. You figure that one out. Why are there so many brown heads? Are they particularly hard to get rid of during mod creation? Because green heads are annoying and cause motion sickness when they bounce up and down when the NPC is running. Why are there so many really good looking female followers that don't bounce? Is it extra hard to do mods with bounce? Why are you looking at the not jiggly women instead of your surroundings? Do you like surprise attacks? Why are there so many female follower mods that are posed with that "cute" little head cocked to one side stance? Because sex sells. Have you been under a rock since puberty? Why are there so many female follower mods that are not only posed with their head cocked but also making the oh so cute hand gestures? Because come hither sex sells more. You really have been under a rock. Why are there so many follower group mods in which it's either all or none? Is it so hard to enable individual character download? So you can hide in the crowd when dragons attack. Dah. Why hasn't someone done a follower mod in which one can install missing teeth, hands, arms, etc. Must be quite hard...or no interest at all. Because youth sells. Do you need spectacles? Why hasn't someone done a follower mod in which prosthetics, such as peg legs or hooks, can be installed. I use eye patch all the time just so I'll have another item to enchant. Because healthy youth sells more. And wash that dammed eye patch. It stinks! Why hasn't someone done a follower mod in which one can install broken noses (can do using slider, but takes a long time), cauliflower ears, burned faces, etc.? Because good looking, healthy youth sells even more. You really do need those spectacles. Why are so many follower mods either CBBE or Unp(or the variations thereof) and not capable of install with either? Because they are easy to make and modders are basically lazy. Or maybe its just me there. Why are so many character mods just presets. Must be really hard to go from there to mod creation? See previous. Why does the guy who's posting this constantly whine, piss and moan about mods when he can't do them himself? 'Cause I'm old and, at the moment, terminally cranky. Venting, I think it's called. The old woman's giving be a batch of s...t! Because he is a curmudgeonly old fart with nothing better to do than drone on and on and on about mods and modders instead of getting off his old fat lazy back pockets and actually contributing something to the modding community. Maybe if you got a hobby and stopped annoying the old woman, she wouldn't be giving you a ration. Geez. You'd think you would have figured out at least that much at your age. Senile old fool. Did I cover everything? Don't want to pass up an opportunity to harangue a fellow old fart. Hope you got a smile. I did. PS. I didn't figure it out on my own either. The bit about a hobby and not pestering the old woman were my wife's advice to me. I took it. Happy wife, happy life.
  13. You will probably have better luck getting an answer in the Witcher 3 Forum.
  14. If genetic modification of our intelligence, whether that be through strengthening synapses or modifying neurotransmitters to make people think faster and remember more, or getting a better understand of the genome so as to modify ourselves safely and knowingly by giving ourselves eidetic memory or something, we probably would. As it stands, the ability simply isn't there, not the desire. It is a sad thing to ponder, but sarcasm doesn't translate very well through the keyboard. With that observation out of the way, here are some facts. First, the human brain is a non-linear processor that works at approximately 100 million MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second). By way of demonstration, what is 1483 * 6842? My linear computer had the answer as fast as I typed it while you are still working to copy and paste the numbers into your calculator. Now, describe the layout of your desk. You can do that pretty quickly, and in a number of different ways, but your computer does not understand the question. There are no non-linear processors. All current processor technologies are linear. The fastest linear processors are 25,000 Million FLOPS (Floating-point Operations Per Second) Super-Computers. They are about the size of a warehouse. Second, the best current estimates from the SAK institute place the storage capacity of the human brain at about 25 PETA bytes or 25000 Terabytes. That is sufficient to store everything on the internet and the complete American Library of Congress. Twice. There is no comparable storage device. Anywhere. Finally, the human brain has been likened to a recall engine coupled with a search engine. Our brains best work is done with memory location, recall and reapplication of learning. So mechanical enhancement of the human brain is pretty much science fiction (sorry Johnny Mnemonic). Besides, there is no proof that enhancing the mechanics of the brain will increase intelligence. Recent scientific discovery has led to defining intelligence as the ability to create connections between the cells of the brain and on the strength of those connections. As I pointed out above, the brain works as a recall engine coupled with a search engine. Our 'intelligence' is a measure of the number of connections, the multiplicity of those connections, and the strength of those connections. The number of connections is simple. How much is stored in the brain. This is a function of life experience, learning opportunities taken advantage of, books read, documentaries viewed, concerts attended, plays watched, etc. In other words, you can only get out of your brain what you put into it. Put in Bugs Bunny and Road Runner cartoons, and that is all there is (Beep Beep). Put in Sesame Street and Mr Rogers Neighborhood and something different is there (Would you be my neighbor?). The quality of what goes into the brain affects intelligence. To re-purpose the old computer GIGO rule, "Garbage In, Garbage Out". The multiplicity of connections is the different ways that things connect in the brain. In reading this, you are connecting the words serially. However, each word has connections and meaning attached which have nothing to do with what is written here. These words will trigger other memories. How often have you been in a conversation and asked "How did we get here"? If you review the conversation, you will see something like cold beer led to baseball led to stadiums led to concerts led to rolling stones let to drug use led to rehab center led to whats his name. A series of random connections? No. Memories are connected to other memories, and the number of connections to a specific memory enable it to be found and recalled quicker. These multiple connections to multiple memories makes our brain more efficient as a search and recall processor. The strength of a connection is also easy. Remember a wedding. Odds are that the memory was there as quickly as you read that simple sentence. Some things are etched in our memory so strongly that they spring to the fore at the slightest provocation. But things we want to remember, we must reinforce. How many times have you repeated a phone number you just received to commit it to memory? Or read and reread a passage from a book to help you remember it? These actions reinforce the connections to a memory and strengthen that connection. Here again, this allows the brain to more quickly find and recall a memory. Given all of that, there is virtually no way that we can mechanically reproduce or enhance the human brain to increase intelligence. The bio-electrical processes are just to complex to reproduce mechanically given our current state of technologies. And the numbers of connections are literally astronomical. (Sorry Mike, R Daneel Olivaw, Robbie, et al.) What is left? One option is to improve the quality of the input What?!?!. How is that? Improve education? Make students read books and write a report on them? Require science and math in schools? Test for measurable learning objectives and repeat courses if necessary? Require parents to take part in and foster their children's education? Nah. Who cares if little Johnny can't read or write, the popular sentiment seems to coincide with the sentiment in Pink Floyd's The Wall. We don't need no education We don't need no thought control No dark sarcasm in the classroom Teachers leave them kids alone Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone! And it shows. Past that, there is exercising the brain with puzzles and games. There is an entire industry geared toward training the brain in an effort to offset the effects of Alzheimer's Disease. There is even an APP for that. If we do attack intelligence from biology and human DNA, let's focus on something fundamental. Start by reinforcing the youthful motivation to learn. The desire in children and young adults to increase ones own knowledge is probably the best bet for 'artificially' enchaining intelligence. That and providing suitable learning opportunities. What good is a motivation to learn when the only available source of information are Looney Toons, Roy Rogers, My Friend Flicka and Sky King? (If that doesn't date me, nothing else will.) But guess what. We don't need some scientific magic to improve our own learning opportunities and exercise our brain at the same time. Just simply trundle your little bundle down to the local library and read something. Anything will do. But first, you have got to want too and "there's the rub". The flick "Idiocracy" may be more prophesy than comedy.
  15. That is a whole other debate that is off topic to this thread :ermm: Which brings me back to the topic at hand, transhumanism. In the effort to improve the human condition via selective alteration, would using genetic selection to raise human intelligence be preferable to raising 'physical attributes'? Or should the focus be on physical prowess, eventually reducing humanity to hairy, chest slapping, monosyllabic Neanderthals? By raising intelligence, we could reduce or eliminate those who summarily discount scientific discovery simply because it doesn't fit their preconceived world view. By raising intelligence, we could improve the quality of thought by giving humanity the ability to process complex ideas and not just focus on one single simple thought at a time. By raising intelligence, we could improve the clarity of communications by developing peoples ability to understand things like a sentence and its relationship to a paragraph and potentially reduce or eliminate those who take a sentence from a paragraph and use that out of context sentence as a distraction. By raising intelligence we could reduce or eliminate people who spout spurious and nonsensical thoughts. Nah. We better leave 'smarter' out of the 'better, faster, stronger' saw. Humanity only needs their brains as a spacer to keep their skulls from imploding. Besides; given a sufficiently sized stone, even a Neanderthal can become smart.
  16. Just some random dumb questions, related or not. Are 'legalities' or 'ethics' really valid considerations when discussing advances in science and technology? Both or these concepts are purely nebulous human constructs which are routinely abandoned in response to changing circumstances. A number of people have undergone an exorbitant amount of plastic surgery to 'improve their physical appearance'. How is such surgery different than undergoing surgeries to 'improve their physical abilities'? In spite of the UN proscription, recent advances have successfully allowed surgery to replace defective human DNA as a means to cure a genetic disease. Are we as humans at the cusp where DNA manipulation will allow for a 'better, faster, stronger' human to be artificially created at insemination? And having reached 'better, faster, stronger', why is 'smarter' not first on that little litany? We as a species have so polluted our planet that extinction of all species is being contemplated. May it become necessary to alter our DNA to allow for humanities continued survival in a world becoming increasingly toxic? From a psychological standpoint, has humanity advanced to the point where we find our physical limitations simply a matter of self image and a negative measure of our self worth? And just for laughs, Here is some inspiration:

    Hi there!

Welcome. Here are some mod Forums you might like: Stardew Valley The Sims 4 Sorry, no Osu! to be found.

    Hi folks.

Hello and welcome. And ask away, the only idiotic questions are the ones you don't ask.
  19. At the risk of seeming ... well ... unhelpful, try asking the authors of the two mods for help. They may be willing to provide both assistance and insight.
  20. There are none here to choose from. You may upload a picture from where ever you want, mostly from your own files. Just be cognizant of the size restrictions.
  21. You know there really is no such thing as an 'ex' when referring to Marines. Once a Marine, always a Marine and all that. Hell, we are still Marines even when cold and moldering because we all get stuck wth PCS to 1st Heaven Street Guard Bn. Semper Fi Bro. My T-Shirt says, "U. S. Marines go to Hell to regroup." I have a T-shirt which says "Marines aren't welcome in hell. The Devil is afraid the Marines will kick his ass and take over".

  23. Hey, welcome. Most of us started out with console commands, so you are not alone. Doing the research on the console commands is a good start for understanding how some of the functionality in the CK work. And don't be afraid to ask questions, as most are willing to help. Enjoy, and again; welcome. Edit. Almost forgot. Also visit the Discord Channel if you have questions
  24. Merriam-Webster can provide a definition of 'prosperity'. But the meaning of 'prosperity' is as varied as humanity, as we each get to determine what constitutes 'prosperity' for ourselves. If someone values wealth and money, then 'prosperity' may mean having a lot of property and money. If someone values family, then 'prosperity' may be a passel of people who claim to be related to each other. The meaning of 'prosperity' is simply based on what each person values and how much of that valued 'thing' they possess. But even each individuals meaning of 'prosperity' is nebulous, as our individual meaning of prosperity changes over time. As our perspective on the world changes, what we value changes to match our new cosmology. The things we valued as children are not the things we value as teens, are not the things we value as adults nor are they the things we value as pensioners. And even that is variable because the things we value may cycle in and out of our lives. By way of example; a teenaged male may subscribe to the "the one who dies with the most toys wins" philosophy and value the techno-toys, where as an adult male may subscribe to the "everything for the wife and kids" philosophy and will subjugate their desires to support their family. But, the old man may find a new joy in that old "most toys" ideology and revert to a passion for gadgets. TL:DR. The meaning of 'prosperity' is a matter of what an individual values and their perspective on the world.
