  1. I'm testing it out right now. Your code looks nice and clean.
  2. Mossy Cob. :D To control the PVP in the city I had to flag the entire area in regions (four city block general regions - you can see which part of the city is in which region by right clicking when you have a piece of string active). They're owned by VIP - so any regular user should be able to build easily wherever they want. The only problem comes from new members (non-VIP). To build inside the walls (not applicable outside) you have to flag out a lot (remember to go up too - not just a single layer square ;) ) and set them as an owner of the lot. Then setparent the new region to the applicable cityblock region (again - seeable with string) and they should be good to go.
  3. Yeah - I've got a backup I made right before I switched over the server.
  4. I'll look at it ub3r. It will require an hour or so of server downtime I'd guess though, so that will be a time to be determined.
  5. More than enough evidence in there. Three players have been banned. Nothing calls for language like that - and there were repeated (polite) requests made to tone it down. I would have just warned them, but continuing to do so like that is sufficient proof of a disregard for the rules to merit banning. Edit: Also a warning to flamedude. While not as foul mouthed as your associates, some of your comments have been borderline. This is an all-ages server. Keep it clean.
  6. @Pronam @ub3rman I was looking at MCEdit, and I believe it is possible (after a conversion to 1.3 format). However I agree with Pronam that I doubt it will fit in very well. @Arg What would you be interested in doing? I am certain there are plenty of people here with plenty of desires for features/etc, so I would be careful about opening up that can of worms too quickly (least you get swamped with requests). :)
  7. Update: There is now a working arena area. As a side effect of the process I took to enable pvp in the arena, PVP is now enabled by default outside of the city area (in addition to the arena). A few notes: 1) Abuse of pvp outside the city is prohibited. If I find someone stalking people around when they leave the city they will be getting the boot. 2) Admins can (and happily will :) ) disable pvp for areas where you may wish to build outside of the city. Just let us know.
  8. An official server shop has been set up. The row of sell/buy signs no longer exist. You can now trade directly to the server with gold, diamonds, netherrack, glowstone, bones, cobble and moss stone. Zaldir - Lets see what the server's bank accounts have for you, I think there might be a little there. ;) We wouldn't want to discourage public works! They look quite nice btw.
  9. A solid case. Be sure to think out your cooling pathways though (more fans will not necessarily provide you with a better cooling system - and can actually negatively affect cooling if they are improperly arranged). These problems can come up in full tower cases too. In my opinion, the main benefit there is the ease of distribution for storage drives (or the additional bays if you are running expansion controller cards).
  10. Let me clarify one point: I flattened out the area around spawn to make it easier for people to build a large city or various projects. You are perfectly free to choose to build elsewhere and to never visit that area if you so desire. You don't really need to ask me or any admin for permission to build on the flat area, but I don't want to have to moderate arguments over "rights" to it (so I would prefer if you talked to people before staking out an area). If you're interested in the mumble room (I don't know how many are/will be on it): Quoted from Dark0ne's post:
  11. Well, here's my idea in summary. You are all free to comment, disagree, agree, etc - please do. I saw quite a few good ideas for projects come up in the last couple of pages of posts. The economy/land selling/etc ideas are great - however I think they may be impractical for effective implementation on a server of this scale. So, I thought it might be nice to simply facility some public projects. I created a map locally where I leveled off an area of some 250,000 blocks in area. I then subdivided this into 4 quarters, with the spawn at center. I figured that these could be perfect sandbox locations to build large castles/cities/public works. All the leveling work is done - you just need to find or farm the resources and get to building. By dividing it into quarters I figured we could have a couple of large projects. Maybe a medieval quarter, a modern quarter, a quarter for personal houses (plot size limited of course), etc - you get the idea. If this seems agreeable to all, I'll set up some warps out at the edge to facilitate access to the wilderness for exploration and mining/etc. The areas can also be protected and build restricted to certain groups. Economy: No, I don't mean to entirely scrap the economy idea. However I don't think that with the current bugs in the plugin we are ready for a fully fledged natural economy (land, labor, etc). Since its a very handy method to redistribute blocks though, I think a couple of merchants (stores?) coupled with the ability to purchase un-accessible items is a good medium. You may note that I marked out an area around spawn which I figured would be handy to set up stores, crafting areas, stockrooms, and other general server works. Thoughts? Please comment. I hope this post is moderately understandable. I may edit it in the morning when I'm less sleepy.
  12. Apparently WorldEdit is not meant to replace over 1000000 blocks at a time.
  13. Server should be as good as new now. Fully reinstalled with Bukkit and mods. Actually, its kinda nice to have things all cleaned up. :) Note: It is not online right now though. I want to try something out. It will be up in a bit though. Regarding an automatic backup: I've got ftp access to the server and could set that up - but once the world grows a bit (takes maybe a week or two to do so) the compression work to save the world/etc puts a moderately heavy load on the server. For that reason, I prefer to just do it manaully when there is no one on. More to follow.
  14. Queenston/katashy will not be returning to this server within my lifetime. That is all I will say. It is my opinion that further discussion will simply add to the apparent satisfaction he got from griefing the server. If you still wish to discuss it further, please remember the rules of conduct for the nexus forums. He unfortunately has caused a significant amount of damage and I cannot immediately restore the server to working order. Luckily I have a backup of the world from the 4th (two days ago). Therefore it is mostly just a matter of me uploading files and reconfiguring the settings (luckily I also have backups of some (though not all) of those settings). Please have patience in the next couple days as I work around my class schedule to get this back up.
  15. I know - its a scary place out there! They've got trees and sun and grass and dirt . . .
  16. Thank you for taking the right move. :) I think its best for all to take a slight break from the server right now though. Relax, have some fun outside, etc.
  17. Yes. Mistakes happen. Katashy made a mistake. I'll figure out what to do about that/his permissions. I will not tolerate a lynch mob though. After seeing some of the work done I have taken the server down. I'll probably keep it down for the next day or so, to allow everyone to cool off. Griefing someone's place is NEVER a solution to the problem. Griefing will get you warned, and if it continues, banned - regardless of the reasons for it. I also recommend that everyone take a moment to consider forum etiquette here. Be polite. Uber - Before I took it down, I started refilling the ocean. If you spawn water blocks to start a flow, you can then use /fixwater (# for radius around you) to downfill everything. It works pretty well. The only downside is that I accidentally overfilled part of the ocean by the city. I've been going around using //drain (yes - two slash) and then fixwater to drain and fill it to the right level. Edit: I also apologize to the Rivett's who had just logged on before I shut the server down.
  18. Server back up. Economy has been added. No craftbook yet (it is too incomplete and potentially glitchy right now - will wait for an update). You should be able to create trading signs now. http://ess.earth2me.com/index.php/Sign_Tutorial#Essentials_Eco_Signs Since no one will have any money right now - I will set up a sell sign to sell to server (probably gravel - since it is moderately common and of minimal use (in some people's minds)) to acquire currency. Once you've acquired some, you should be able to trade among each other. *Disclaimer - my connection keeps dying on me (as those who were on can attest) so I was not able to test the economy. Hold with me a little, this should be workable. Warning: It seems that we may have had a security breach (with LWC - chest protection). This will be tested out over the next couple of days to see if we can pinpoint the potential causes (or negate it). Could be due to server glitch too. Admins: we are now running WorldGuard (and WorldEdit). To protect regions - see here http://wiki.sk89q.com/wiki/WorldGuard/Regions#Allowing_specific_groups_as_owners_of_an_area http://wiki.sk89q.com/wiki/WorldEdit/Selection Using stick (280). Defining a region to a user automatically protects it (should). I did it to the Nexus sign as an example. (Normal users - ask an admin/mod to do this for you. For grief protection reasons, the ability to do this is restricted). Alonso1: Since we crossed paths there while I was AFK, message me for what you lost when you see me (or another admin) on.
  19. You've been reset Lostone - I have no idea what is causing the respawn deaths (or why, for that matter, the spawn for deaths is different then normal). I'll add a nice pool for people to fall into. Maybe that will help. Don't drown though. Server will be down for a while as I do some work/updates.
  20. I must have mispelled your name Arg. Sorry about that. Checking up on the spawn.
  21. After hearing the opinions regarding the map, a new one has been loaded. It may take a little bit to load the first time you log on as it is still generating.
  22. Doooh. Thanks for the heads up. Edit: It seems that the new map format breaks mineseeder.
  23. Good input. I'll make the decision tonight (my time) - so roughly 12 hours from now. One note - if it is a new map, it will be a new map. I don't know the seed for the current one (just randomly added it for testing). SMP handles seeds a little differently than singleplayer. Edit: If my experience this morning is anything to judge by, CommanderCrazy's comments on memory leaks in 1.3 may be very true.
  24. Server is up. Mods please check your mail for information. I am 90% certain that this should be working almost perfectly now. I would be 100%, but minecraft.net keeps going down. As CommanderCrazy mentioned - I do want to get some sort of semi-definitive answer regarding a map. When you log in, the motd should actually instruct you to come here and vote (though if you are reading this - then obviously you are here!) In my opinion, the world has been more than a little chaotic (my fault for not getting groups fixed up correctly to begin with), and from the large use of item spawning/etc, it would be unfair to those who were not on to continue in this world. Yes, it is quite pretty - but it seems that all of the spawns now are. If we get a pretty definitive argument for keeping it though, then I am open to that. As CommanderCrazy mentioned - the current vote would be 5:3 for keeping. Regarding server plugins - there is a pretty neat sign based system for establishing chests/stores. After a couple of days of stablility running on this, I will probably load that and then look at others.
